New Year, New Thread #16 For Paul McKenna's Losers!!! He Can Make Us Thin!!!

Solo · 01/01/2015 13:03

Happy New Year Everyone!
Welcome to thread #16 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.
Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" have a glass of water to see if it's real hunger or just thirst; wait 15 or 20 minutes if you can, before eating something to see if it's 'gone off' after a drink. Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.
Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things! :)

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain; we just need to change how we treat food and ourselves.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose; it's very doable.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2015 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Hypnotic Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to Freedom From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is 'there?' We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! Smile 1lb at a time....

Food yesterday (i don't normally do this!):
4 fig rolls
2 slices of toast

Yes, the dreaded stomach bug hit the Running household. Ds started it off and dh and I got it too. Feeling a lot better today but eating to regain strength, one good side effect is the thought of chocolate makes me sick. I never thought that would be a positive!

Hope you are all fit and well.

I missed spin last night, and now dh is away with work so I need to get on my turbo of an evening.

ChocLover2015 · 14/01/2015 01:42

Those of you using your phone as a pedometer , where do you put it ?

ToastedOrFresh · 14/01/2015 03:43

Weetabix with a sliced banana and a small box of raisins and some semi skimmed milk.

Three wholemeal pita breads filled with 50g chopped cows milk feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, chopped cucumber, spinach leaves, yoghurt and mint. Healthy coleslaw on the side.

Watermelon for dessert. A banana for a snack later on.

I live overseas, it's summer here atm and I'm unemployed.

For tea I will make pasta carbonara. Cook some bacon scraps that I got from the supermarket, render off the fat and concentrate the flavour. Pour off the fat then add sliced mushrooms, chopped onion, and sliced garlic and cook this for a bit. Then I will make up a can of condensed mushroom soup with milk and pour it over to make the sauce. I will then drain and serve the pasta that will have been cooking whilst I was making the sauce.

I will then have a bar of chocolate as my, 'treat' whilst watching t.v. It will be a twirl or a twix not multiple bars !

ToastedOrFresh · 14/01/2015 03:45

Exercise was 30 minutes circuit training. I walked to the gym and back as well. I don't know how many steps, I don't count my steps each day.

Solo · 14/01/2015 10:21

Hello Toasted are you joining us doing the Paul McKenna? is this your planned menu for the day? Please do join us, but although this is not a restrictive 'diet' type of weight loss, we do follow the 4 golden rules as set out in the OP. Will you have your treat even if you aren't really hungry?

Hope you are better RK it's miserable being hit by that type of bug!

CL I don't use one; I tried to put one on my phone, but it won't let me. Today I counted my steps on the way home from the school and counted 3300, so doubling that, so far today on only the school run walk is 6600. No wonder I'm exhausted!! I will be doing that again this afternoon and for the rest of the week at least.

Octopus37 · 14/01/2015 14:03

Hi RK hope you are feeling better. The pedometer I downloaded is just called Steps (I have got an iPhone 4). I am doing well on the steps, reasonable with food, probably eating too much but time of the month. Today so far:

2 pieces of toast with peanut butter (left one bite)
1 belgian bun from Greggs (ate it all)
Just eating a slice of toast with pickle and cheese

Know this is very carb heavy but its what I want at the moment.

Bonnie152 · 14/01/2015 14:28

Hi everyone. I've been lurking on this thread a while (and actually joined in about a year ago but then I fell pregnant and all went downhill foodwise) I've just had my second baby and am determined to lose some weight to get healthy and feel better in myself but I want to do it gently and I know from past experience that PM works for me so I'd like to join you ladies again.

My little boy is 6 weeks old and I'm breastfeeding him so I feel hungry quite a bit at the moment so just trying to listen to my body.

I'm also going to start expressing a bit of milk for dh to give him at nighttime so I can listen to the trance without worrying about feeding my little one.

Hope to keep up posting here and see some results soon! I'm currently in size 20 jeans Shock and would love to get to a 16 at first - I still want to retain some curves so that's the goal I'm working towards Smile

Millli · 14/01/2015 16:47

Hi Bonnie Welcome back and big Congratulations on your little boy.
Breast feeding as Im sure you know requires extra calories so your doing the best you can by listening to your body which is exactly the way we try to eat on this thread so all good Smile. I breastfed for many years having two babies in close succession.

Solo · 14/01/2015 17:52

Hellloooo Bonnie long time no see! :) welcome back and big congrats to you!! Yep! you know what you are doing, so just join in and start your journey. Please though, don't put too much pressure on yourself so soon after the birth of you lo :)

Thank you milli and solo! Since I've had him I've been pigging out and then feeling awful after. I tend to do fine all day then when my little girl goes for her afternoon nap I get the munchies and almost 'write off' the day by eating whatever I can Confused

When I'm Pauling I just feel so much better. Will be careful while breastfeeding though - last thing I want is my milk supply to be affected!

Octopus37 · 14/01/2015 20:30

Hi Bonnie, welcome. Have gone a bit wrong this evening, but trying to attribute it to tiredness and time of the month.

Todays food: 2 pieces of toast with peanut butter (left one mouthful)
1 Belgian bun
1 piece of toast with cheese and pickle
1 bag of minstrels
Ready meal - Chicken tikka with bombay potato and pilau rice
Have then eaten 2 chocolates and 2 twirl bars of a pack (2 two fingered ones, slightly smaller than standard choco bar. Have worked out that all this equates to about 2,500 calories. However, have done 19,282 steps today (856 cals), so hoping it will balance out slightly. Definitely aim to be more mindful tomorrow with as much exercise.

Solo · 15/01/2015 01:12

Bonnie just ensure you drink plenty. Eat normally, but drink plenty and your supply should be fine :)

Oct tomorrow's another day my dear! :)

We are all over the stomach bug now so feeling more human again.

I've decided to spend Christmas money on a cd player alarm clock thing, this will mean I can listen to the cd and drop off. I did want a nice sunrise clock but no need whilst ds thinks 4.26am is time to start the day Sad

It's a few short weeks till my 40th so I want to stay on track.

Welcome Bonnie, bf'ing and the broken nights can be so hard. I used chocolate biscuits and diet coke to get me through the afternoons. 6 weeks is very early days.

Bonnie152 · 15/01/2015 13:26

Glad you're feeling better RunningKatie and thank you for the welcome!

Doing ok so far today, we've been for our 6 week check at the doctors and got a thumbs up. Little one is now 11lb2 up from 8lb birth weight so I'm pleased with that.

I'm in no way pressuring myself to lose weight by the way - I just want to have a more ordered and normal way of eating rather than eating everything in sight and then my body feeling bloated and sluggish and just horrible. I'm not even planning to weigh myself, just want to feel better in myself and hopefully that'll be reflected in my body and clothes.

One up side to breastfeeding is that I'm constantly drinking water - I think I'm averaging about 3litres a day at the moment. I've just sat down with a cuppa and am about to do my online shop which, when following PM, is a pleasure as you can pick anything you fancy!

Hope everyone else is doing well today :)

Millli · 15/01/2015 17:58

Bonnie that is definitely the most brilliant thing about this way of eating isn't it. My kitchen has all the foods I love but I don't bother with them much. Paul McKenna at its best right there ha ha!. I have a chocolate drawer full of.......chocolate, Haagen Daaz in the freezer, lots of lovely cheese, olives, leaves, ham, nuts, crisps, peanuts, sweets, hot chocolate and squirty cream, bowls of fresh fruit and frozen fruit too, yummy breads, real welsh salty butter, jams, lemon curd , pizza etc etc etc. When the kids mates come over they head for the kitchen and the chocolate drawer as they cant wait to eat loads of it. My kids don't get it. They have always had the chocolate drawer and take it or leave it.

RunningKate so glad you are feeling better. Nothing worse than being ill. Hope your family are better too.

Bonnie152 · 16/01/2015 12:43

Yum milli! You've inspired me to add a few of those to the shopping!

We've had a walk up to our playgroup and back this morning, which with pushing a pushchair and wearing a baby in a sling is no mean feat! Haha!

This afternoon my toddler and I are making a birthday cake as it's hubby's birthday tomorrow. The thought of being able to indulge in yummy birthday food is great!

3 days in and I'm feeling so much better and more positive. I keep thinking about summer - long walks and lazy days and picnics by the river feeling slimmer and more energetic Smile is anyone else craving sun?!

How's everyone else doing today?

Millli · 16/01/2015 12:57

Hi Bonnie I remember those days. Smile. One in the pram and one in a sling. Got to be good exercise hasn't it. So glad your feeling good about this. It's very freeing isn't it. Diets tend to cause you to eat much more than you need because you eat as much as you can of what you are allowed. This way you eat the foods you love full of flavour and I find that when I have a mouthful of something that has flavour and satisfies in every way that I eat less.

Bonnie152 · 16/01/2015 14:26

Yes definitely good exercise. Hard work with the two of them but so lovely.

Yes exactly - it's just so stress free and enjoyable which is how eating should be!

Was talking to my sister at playgroup, she's doing slimming world and has lost quite a bit on it in the last 6 weeks. It's almost like the opposite way of eating to Paul McKenna. Works really well for her but I just couldn't do it.

bubulix · 16/01/2015 14:39

Hi everyone, I've read some of the past threads in the last couple of days as I have nothing but ICMYT on my mind at the moment and was looking for somewhere to talk about the journey.

So happy to have found you all!

I bought the books years ago, followed it for a few days (yes only days!) got a loss and felt great and then who knows what happened - I lost my way for some reason.

I've been on Slimming World for most of last year and have had losses but after an AI holiday in November and Christmas it's shown me that SW hasn't dealt with my food issues in the slightest and it's scary and unnatural I think how quickly put on weight.

On Saturday I read about the Paul McKenna app and thought - I'm going to do that again as it worked and it's common sense! So bought the app, found my dusty book and have been following the golden rules and listening to the app every night so far. Sunday was day number 1.

I cheated on Wednesday and I've lost 3.5lbs. Hubby has now hid them from me and I'll get them back a week on Sunday (my first 2 weeks over).

I am loving and living this at the moment (and annoyed I ever left it to be honest) but no point dwelling on the past - time to think about my new future thanks to Paul.

P.S My favourite thing is all the leftovers - so great to not have to make lunch most days as I either have tea or breakfast leftovers to have :D

bubulix · 16/01/2015 14:42

I should say I cheated and went on the scales (not with eating!)

Millli · 16/01/2015 16:37

Bonnie you say that Slimming World works well for your sister but is this the first time she has done it? When she gets to her goal will she keep it off or like most people, start overeating all the foods that are not allowed freely. People say that if only they had kept eating like they did on the diet that they wouldn't gain weight but if the diet were something you could stick to for life then you would never need to do the diet more than once, would you?

Millli · 16/01/2015 16:41

bubulix WELCOME Smile
Doesn't matter about the past. Your doing it now.
Lots of people start this way of eating (mindful eating) and lose weight but then become complacent and stop eating mindfully and of course gain weight. Its all about listening to your body and your own hunger signals and by leaving a couple of spoonfuls of something it all adds up.

Bonnie152 · 16/01/2015 16:51

Milli - no she's not done it before so suppose we'll see in time what happens. I know she's cut out a lot of food she really loves though which is a shame.

Welcome bubulix!

Millli · 16/01/2015 17:25

When I look back Bonnie is see how with every diet I did I ended up overeating after. Diets cause me to overeat. Makes sense really. If you deprive yourself of something then you will go mad once you stop depriving yourself.
