New Year, New Thread #16 For Paul McKenna's Losers!!! He Can Make Us Thin!!!

Solo · 01/01/2015 13:03

Happy New Year Everyone!
Welcome to thread #16 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.
Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" have a glass of water to see if it's real hunger or just thirst; wait 15 or 20 minutes if you can, before eating something to see if it's 'gone off' after a drink. Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.
Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things! :)

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain; we just need to change how we treat food and ourselves.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose; it's very doable.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2015 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Hypnotic Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to Freedom From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is 'there?' We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! Smile 1lb at a time....

Hi
Can I join you please.I have been doing PM for a few days.I have just found this thread. It is a pity MNHQ don't have a dedicated PM board!!
Anyway, so far so good .Just a couple of issues some more experienced PMers might be able to answer
Firstly I sometimes fall asleep when I listen to the DVD.I am not sure if this is a problem, and if so how to prevent it.
Secondly -and this has always been my problem. Why is it so easy in the daytime and so difficult once it gets to late afternoon/ evening when I just want to pig out ? Does anybody have any strategies for coping with this.
TIA!

Helenagrace · 05/01/2015 13:42

I am giving this ago.

I tried the having a drink of water thing this morning when it felt like I was starving and it worked! Hunger pangs went for two hours!

Solo · 05/01/2015 14:29

Hi CL :) welcome to our thread!

Falling asleep is not a problem, the message is still going in. I don't think I've stayed awake more than twice before! mind you, I'm assuming you mean cd, not dvd? if dvd then you may need more visual intake.
As far as the feeling the munchies of an afternoon or evening, are you slowing down at this time? boredom can be a factor here and keeping busy and focussed on something can help. Your thoughts on this? What about doing the Tapping Technique to fend it off? I find it works well.

Helena good going! sounds like you will start losing oz very soon!! :)

Could you get a online home delivery to your house Solo? They don't have to come in, just leave it at the door while you check it out? I haven't tried it myself as we live in the middle of nowhere up a mountain up a little track and their van could not get up it. I popped to the nearest village today to the Co-Op to refill my fridge as I cant be away from home for long at the moment.
I did a weigh in today and have lost 5lbs so now its a case of keeping it off and not regaining. Im keeping a food diary, not from a calorie point of view but just to keep track of what I ate and how I felt on the hunger scale before I ate it.

Octopus37 · 05/01/2015 20:45

Have lost my first pound. Have eaten today:
2 piece of toast with lime marmalade (left one bite)
2 piece of cheese and pickle on toast left one bite)
I minuture hereo
1 Cookie
2 sausages with butter bean, leek and sundried tomato paste mash, admit I did pick a little bit when making it, but unfortunately forgot to leave any. Didn't eat leftovers though
Could have eaten more, really tempted to pick. Just had a cup of sugar free squash
On the plus side, managed 15,500 steps today

Millli · 05/01/2015 22:26

Brilliant Octopus. Well done. That's how conscious eating goes. Just being much more aware and not eating for the sake of it or because it just tastes nice. Mindful eating at its best.

Today I had:

one small slice of pizza with ham, salami and lots of veg

one and a half slices of bread with a little butter and salad

small piece of salmon in honey and white wine sauce, green beans, baby sweetcorn, peas, broccoli and peas with some oven roasted herb potatoes.

two pieces of Terrys Orange
a few minstrels.

lots of cups of tea

Solo · 05/01/2015 23:46

Oh no M I don't do online shopping; I like to peruse the aisles and get the bargains Grin. We certainly won't go hungry.
Well done on the 5lb loss! that's progress now, isn't it!
And Octo a lb is a great start!

I have had a slice of toast with bettolli and marmalade (brunch). I did not leave a piece as I only have one slice as opposed to 3.
I made a spaghetti meal with onions, garlic, pieces of bacon rashers, balsamic vinegar, tomato pureé and cream cheese. Twas delicious and I gave Dd some of my bacon and left a small mouthful.
Sadly, those sweet things had to go Blush and I had a very rare glass of wine. I also polished off the peanuts.

Oh and a tip for late night or even anytime munchies is a mug of hot chocolate.

OP posts:
Millli · 06/01/2015 00:23

That spaghetti meal sounds yummy! I love a cup of hot chocolate with squirty full fat cream on top (loads) and then grating white chocolate on top of that (lots). mmmmmmm!!!!
I must admit I love real shopping not virtual.

mrsmilesmatheson · 06/01/2015 06:45

Well back to work yesterday and went ok, I'm going to try to take a decent length lunch break so I can eat more slowly. I often grab ten minutes or eat whilst marking books and it means I rush or don't concentrate. Yesterday took 25 minutes and enjoyed my lunch!

Was starving by the time I got in and had a yummy jacket potato with cheese and left over meat.

Am determined to stay away from the scales for 2 weeks. Less than three weeks to go until I'm on stage singing and want to shift a few lbs by then.

Solo · 06/01/2015 09:40

Well, if you continue like that mrs I would say you will do it! enjoying your food is the way to success as much as not overeating is :)

OP posts:
Solo · 06/01/2015 09:44

M it really was lovely! Dd kept telling me how good it was Grin.
I often make meals up out of what is available in the kitchen. As long as I have onions, balsamic (brown one), some kind of meat and either mushrooms or peppers and pasta/rice or potatoes, I can usually make a fab meal :)

OP posts:
Millli · 06/01/2015 19:09

S I have not used Balsamic as a sauce ingredient before. I tend to use it for salad dressings or to mix with olive oil and dip bread in. I shall have to try it. It is a delicious soft sweet taste.

me today

2 slices wholewheat toast with little butter and marmalade
3 brazil nuts

little bit of lindt father Christmas

2 spoons of Banoffee Yoghurt from a local Welsh Dairy

Chicken and Prawn Veg stir fry with grated ginger, honey garlic and parmesan cheese.

2 satsumas.

What did everyone else have?

Where are you singing mrs

Octopus37 · 06/01/2015 22:00

Hi, how's everyone getting on, not doing too badly, did over 17,000 steps today so pleased with that. Ate:

2 breakfast biscuits
1 normal biscuit
Cheese and Onion pasty from Munch
1 mini hero
2 biscuits
Chicken Tikka masala, rice and bombay potato ready meal

Know today's food not very healthy, but was eaten in a mindful way, left a small amount of breakfast and lunch, sat down to eat biscuits and chocolate, ate what I really wanted for breakfast but less of it and managed to resist eating when I was making dinner and picking at biscuits, chocolate after dinner

Millli · 06/01/2015 23:32

Octopus I am terrible for picking at food when I am eating and then I lose my appetite. When I am peeling carrots, broccoli, etc I will pop bits in my mouth. Also tasting that the food is just right. Maybe too much tasting occurs though haha!! Smile

Solo · 07/01/2015 00:55

Ooh! yes!! I use balsamic all the time! used it tonight mixed with brown sugar to caramelise red onion to go into a bacon, egg, broccoli and pepper flan I made. Was scrummy with mashed pots and broccoli.

OP posts:
Solo · 07/01/2015 00:56

I have to say that I generally don't pick whilst cooking and I never taste anything during the cooking either. Always turns out good too!

PoirotsMoustache · 07/01/2015 10:08

Hi all!

I have been lurking again since the New Year, but didn’t start doing anything until Monday, which is why I’ve not said hello yet. I still haven’t managed to listen to the CD – whenever I remember it’s not possible to do it at that time, and then I forget when I do get a chance to listen! I am trying to eat when hungry and stop when full though. And I’ve managed to leave a bite of my breakfast all three days – yay! I keep forgetting with the other meals, but I am trying to eat less overall. And I was starving hungry by both lunch and dinner time Monday and yesterday, so I’m obviously giving my body a chance to process the food I’ve had, rather than keeping it permanently topped up.

I’m also trying to cut out chocolate, biscuits, sweets and alcohol for January. I will introduce them again in Feb, when I feel I can eat them mindfully rather than shovelling them in without noticing. I’m on the 3rd day and I’ve managed to resist them all so far, so I’m pleased about that. I haven’t completely cut out crisps, but I’m determined to only have them as part of a meal – e.g. a sandwich and a bag of crisps for lunch. I haven’t had crisps as a snack for two whole days, and I had one small bag with my sandwich yesterday. If you knew me, you’d know that’s a huge achievement for me! Grin

It’s a bit daunting, knowing I have a minimum of 6 stone to lose, so I am trying to take it one day at a time. Just have to figure out how to reward myself for being successful without using food!

Millli · 07/01/2015 12:04

Hi Poirots. I thought you had been on this thread before? Smile

Sounds like your doing well. Have you read the book? I get that you are removing those items for January but PM and Mindful Eating methods and overcoming overeating methods do stress that to do this for life you need to allow all foods that you love back into your life and indeed your kitchen. Once you legalise them and accept them as part of normal food and not as treats then they lose their appeal and you eat them less and less. I have a chocolate drawer and have done for a good 15 years. No one bothers with it much unless we really fancy chocolate. Same with the biscuit barrel. I haven't had to buy any for over a month as no one bothers. The three tubs of chocolate sweets (Roses, Heros etc) are still on the shelf and have hardly been touched. There are three packs of Terrys Chocolate orange too but the stew full of 10 different veg is eaten on a daily basis for lunch and the fruit bowl that has to be topped up twice a week is always popular.

Solo · 07/01/2015 13:35

Hi PM good to see you :). What Millli says is true, but you may find that January rolls into February and alcohol isn't automatically brought back in just because it's Feb iyswim? well done on minimalising crisp eating too. What will you do if you find that cutting the alcohol out has caused you to lose a significant amount of weight? my Mum cut it out almost entirely after I 'made' (just set it up and put it on her head/ears...mind you, she had a few interruptions) her listen to PMK HGB; she has lost 2st! eats much less than she did. I also do Mum's shopping, so I stopped buying her weekly large bottle of whisky. It was more really, that she (in my humble opinion) was drinking far too much, on her own and sitting there doing nothing, feeling depressed every night of the week. I sound like a control freak, but I knew she was slowly killing herself...

Millli I couldn't have a chocolate drawer here. My Ds would eat everything within days and because I know he would, it'd make me eat some without really wanting to. Even if I buy things for him, I have to hide some or he'll just gorge on them until they're gone.
I don't buy much fruit anymore as I'm sick of throwing it away. Banana's generally get eaten (mostly) by Dd, but Ds doesn't like them. He asked me to buy apples every week and when I did, he stopped eating them. so they were wasted. Dd is allergic to citrus, so I don't buy oranges...so not much fruit here. When the braces come off, I will start eating apples again.

OP posts:
Millli · 07/01/2015 17:42

Wow S your Mum lost two stone just on the one insertion of the band? That's inspiring. I find the band to be very very excellent in stopping me overeating....I have to say.

I don't drink anymore. Stopped about a year or so ago as I have an allergy/intolerance to it. My sinuses close up as soon as I have a drink and I get a very bad headache and have to take painkillers and antihistamines. It got to the point where if was needing more painkillers for the headaches and couldn't wait for an hour to pass so that the alcohol started to leave my system to feel better.

I think that we have had a chocolate drawer and crisps etc since the kids were born so they grew up treating it just the same as other food. None of them bother with it much.

Hows things going for you anyway Solo. How you feeling? Smile

PoirotsMoustache · 08/01/2015 09:29

Hi Milli, how are you? Yes, I was on the previous thread, but have been quiet since just before Christmas, hence only lurking rather than posting on this particular thread.

I’ve read much of the book, although I haven’t finished it yet. I know what you’re saying (and what PM says, obviously! Grin ) about allowing all foods is right and I will definitely be doing that from Feb. I am only cutting those things out for January because I was in the habit of eating them constantly, all day long, and I know that if I allow myself one or two, I’ll binge and eat the whole packet (using the ‘just one more’ method), whether I’m hungry or not. If I stay off them completely for a just little while, I’ll be out of the habit and therefore will be able to eat them mindfully. I also know I won't be able to do that with crisps, as I have a real addiction to them, so if I cut them out completely I will definitely be bingeing by the end of the week. I know it’s not exactly how PM suggests it should be done, but I think it’s the only way it’ll work for me. I hope to be more like you in my attitude to food in the next few months.

Hi Solo, how're you doing?

Sorry, I forgot to say thank you for starting another thread, so I shall say it now. Thank you.

I see exactly what you mean re alcohol. I’m not sure it would bother me if it didn’t come back in automatically to be honest. I do enjoy the occasional drink – again my problem was I was drinking out of habit – but it doesn’t affect me like it used to. One might make me a bit relaxed or a bit more cheery, but most of the time it does nothing except make me drowsy or feel a bit nauseous if I have a few. And if I find that cutting it out has made me lose a decent amount of weight, then I’ll definitely only have it when I really fancy it, and will not even finish it if I stop enjoying it part way through.
Do you think you could come round to mind and put my earphones in please?! The CD is copied to my MP3 player, and it’s all ready to listen to, I just have to do it. I don’t think you sound like a control freak at all, I think you sound like a very helpful and caring daughter who stepped in when your Mum needed you to. That’s an impressive amount of weight she’s lost.

Octopus, how’re you getting on? Well done on all the steps on Tuesday – wow! You mentioned about your food not being very healthy – I don’t know if it’s about healthy so much as eating mindfully. From what I can remember from the book, and from what lovely people like Milli and Solo have said, you should be eating what you really want, when you really want it (as long as you’re hungry, of course), and be eating it mindfully. Eventually you’ll start wanting a healthy varied mix of food without really thinking about whether it is healthy or not, if that makes sense. I’ll hush up now though, as I’m not a successful mindful eater yet, so not really qualified to give advice. Keep at it though – we can all do this Smile

RunningKatie · 08/01/2015 13:32

I am back again, I am not doing well at the mindful eating at all. I eat with the dc's so am constantly cajoling them to eat up or sit down. I am still trying to eat slower but I also need to up my water intake and exercise.

I fall asleep listening to the cd too, or i did but we don't have a cd player upstairs since we moved. I think I need to get one.

I'm cross with myself as it's my birthday in 3 weeks. I started trying to eat better last March with a view to losing 2 stone. I'm still trying to find my motivation switch Sad

ChocLover2015 · 08/01/2015 14:25

Thanks solo for your advice.Yesterday I made sure I ate a decent breakfast and lunch and had a bowl of soup and breadroll just before the muchies kicked in.It was breaking the rules actually because I wasn't hungry, but if it works.....
I used to have really bad acid reflux and IBS even the prescription stuff from the doctor didn't work. But I have just realised that both these conditions have been completely absent since I have been doing PM? I wonder why that is?
Also I feel so calm and in control of things generally.! I wonder if I was very stressed before and the hypnotherapy is helping with that too.
Has anyone else noticed non-eating related benefits?

Helenagrace · 08/01/2015 14:44

I'm finding the water thing really helpful. I had a sneaky weigh in this morning and I've lost 3lb in 10 days which, given my buggered up thyroid, is pretty good for me.

Millli · 08/01/2015 16:22

Hi all

RunningKatie could you sit with the children and have a cup of tea and wait till you are properly really hungry before you sit yourself down to eat? I find that I will cook for mine and then will sit down with the cup of tea and can chill and listen to them etc without having to concentrate on myself (if you see what I mean). Then when I feel that "I have got to eat" feeling kick in I will make myself something and sit in peace and eat it. Then you can concentrate on putting a mouthful in and putting your cutlery down and notice the flavours (which should taste amazing if you are truly hungry). Then you can have another mouthful and do the whole thing again. Sometimes after 3 mouthfuls you start to feel that satisfied feeling that tells you that you could stop if you wanted to as you are no longer really really hungry. You can always go back to it later if you want. This is body led calorie control. We tend to carry on eating past when we really need it.
Choclover I have IBS and I find it is better when I eat so much less. If I overload my system then it can kick in. I am sure the hypnosis works too as it is meant to relax you and keep you feeling relaxed and in control.
Not sure about eating before your hungry. I don't do that. I do the opposite and wait till I just have to eat. That way I am sure it is genuine hunger. The water or a cup of tea thing works if your not sure.

Helenagrace Yay!!!!!! Well done. Doing good Smile
