New Year, New Thread #16 For Paul McKenna's Losers!!! He Can Make Us Thin!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!
Welcome to thread #16 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.
Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" have a glass of water to see if it's real hunger or just thirst; wait 15 or 20 minutes if you can, before eating something to see if it's 'gone off' after a drink. Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.
Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things! :)

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain; we just need to change how we treat food and ourselves.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose; it's very doable.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2015 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Hypnotic Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to Freedom From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is 'there?' We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! Smile 1lb at a time....

How is it going? I really ought to have lost weight this week as I'm eating so little (through anxiety more than anything else), but no, the scales say otherwise.
I hope you are all doing better than me!

Hi I keep meaning to come back to post here and then run out of time. I've had a slight name change as name changed and couldn't get the original Polarmouse back again Confused

I am doing really well I think. solo thank you for your response to my previous post it really helped. You made me think there is no way I want to stop this process at the moment.

I have dieted and dieted over the years and have now reached a point where yes I would like to loose weight, but I also wanted to loose all fear and stress that has gone with eating for me. And that is lessening, it is brilliant.

I feel more in control, food tastes amazing and if it doesn't im not eating it, I have been doing yoga in the evenings just because it feels good! I love this and definitely don't want to return to not mindful eating.

The weight is not dropping off me but I think I have lost 3 lbs now and the 3 I put on but I probably won't weigh myself for a while again now. I am on two lots of medication that can cause weight gain and I don't know what effect that has. This latest weight gain coincided with starting those meds though.

But honestly atm I am just so delighted not to be thinking about food constantly or feeling so worried about what to eat!

Solo · 15/08/2015 02:34

Good on you PolarMouse!! it's liberating isn't it?! keep up the good work :)

Small set back now! I am awaiting physio appointment in a couple of weeks for an existing problem and the yoga seems to be exacerbating the issue so I think I need to stop until I've seen them.

This always seems to happen when I try to exercise, it is very hard to find how to do it safely with existing health issues even though I want to! In the term time I've started swimming but I can't get out the house in the holidays without my son.

I want to ask others as well, I've been used to weighing food out and have it ingrained in what a portion looks like through all the dieting. The mindfulness is really helping but I am sometimes having trouble stepping past that and serve myself out a portion but I do try and then listen to my hunger signals whilst eating it

So say this morning I had couple of tablespoons of skyr yogurt with half a chopped Apple, a couple of dates and a sprinkle of linseed and almonds and I eat the whole bowl and at the end I feel satisfied but not full and wonder if I should of served some more. Half and hour and a cup of coffee later and I feel quite full. Is this ok or am I doing it wrong?

Solo · 15/08/2015 10:02

Satisfied is the way to go. For me, my full signal is an involuntary sigh. Try to leave at least a mouthful on your plate to throw away (or leave for later, depending on the amount you leave).
You will be able to gauge how much to put on your plate for you soon enough, but weighing? nah!!! don't weigh anything!
You could also try drinking a glass of water half an hour before eating. You may either reverse your 'eat, drink feel too full' to 'drink, eat less' in order to feel satisfied.
Worth a go!

As for the exercise? definitely be careful; could you go for a walk with your son each day instead? until you see physio at least.

Have a great weekend all!!

Thanks for reply solo. I think I will try as you suggested and drink first. I think I ususally do in the morning but ds woke later than usual nd I was hungry! But feeling full is really quite unpleasant. I think the fear and snacking has gone quite quickly practicing this but I still have quite a lot of false beliefs to get rid of to be truly mindfully eating!

Can I ask how much do others practice the 3 mirror exercises in the icmyt book? Also I bought the 90 day success journal and the only one it says to keep doing in there is the one where you remember a compliment from someone you trust and see yourself through their eyes. I wonder if this is the most important one to keep doing? I can see why it is importmt as its about learning to trust yourself.

But I have trouble with this as I seriously can't think of a compliment from someone I trust other than a couple of years ago when my sister complimented me because I'd lost loads of weight then? Would that count?

As for the exercise the only trouble with walking is ds has special needs and when we walk it is either at a snails pace examining the pavement or refusing to walk and I end up pushing him in the sn buggy, which is good excercise but not sure if this is good for existing problem either! He is nearly 4 stone so quite heavy to push! Physio is only next week so hopefull they will give me some exercise and guidelines.

Have a lovely wk end too!

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 15/08/2015 11:22

Still not had my CD. Angry It had an estimated delivery of between Tues and yesterday.

Hope it comes today, it was sent out over a week ago. I was hoping to start last monday. Might have to be this monday coming up, if it arrives of course.

Milllii · 15/08/2015 11:56

You can start without the cd. Smile It's mindful eating. Only eating when you feel genuine hunger and stopping as soon as you no longer feel hunger. It's usually about four truthfully in that the true hunger signal starts to fade. Eat till satisfied, never till full.

Milllii · 15/08/2015 11:57

four mouthfulls

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 15/08/2015 12:51

You can start without the cd

I found that in 2012 it was a lot easier with the CD. I listened to it 3-4 times a week and I found mindful eating so easy. I know the rules (I still have the book - just misplaced the CD), but Im rubbish at following them. The CD just gives me a bit of encouragement I get nowhere else.

Milllii · 15/08/2015 14:33

I understand that. Of course the CD helps but at the end of the day to do this forever its about tuning into your own body and hunger. You end up losing weight because you are eating less. Body led calorie control. I love his CDs, all of them and not just the eating ones. They are very relaxing but I have been doing mindful eating for 15 years now ever since I read Overcoming Overeating by Jane Hirschman. It changed everything for me with regards to food. So of course enjoy the cds as they do work but try to focus on your own natural hunger signals too.

Not sure about the recent publicity regarding his long term cocaine habits though. Bit worrying.

Solo · 21/08/2015 01:08

Hi Ladies! Hope we haven't lost anyone during the hackergate fiasco.

I'm really struggling at work and to cap it all, I've done two hours unpaid overtime this week and still not done enough work and the boss has booked me in for 'a chat' next week...think I'm in for a "this isn't working out" conversation, which is pretty crap considering I have so much to learn still and no one to teach me one to one now. My ME will kick me, I just know it and I'm tired, but I've made sure I've eaten properly in the evenings, as I just can't eat properly before I go to work. I have lost some more weight, but not sure if it's the right way, although I do seem to be filling up faster.

I'm sorry for all the moaning etc. I am not coping here.

How are you all doing?

OP posts:
Millliii · 22/08/2015 17:26

Solo I didn't know you had started a new job. What are you doing now?
Can I ask what you do to manage your ME ie Yoga, meditation, diet etc? I get IBS and get flu like symptoms, cramps, headaches, joint pain and aches. I have found that if I reduce carbs that it helps and also meditation, walking (the fresh air and being in nature is therapeutic). I also need to slow down more but don't.

Solo · 23/08/2015 01:45

I'm just an admin assistant Milli part time, but it's exhausting.

I don't do anything much Milli and that's because my sleep pattern is dictated by the disease and can go from sleeping all the time, to not being able to at all, to literally just nodding off (which has been the recent part of the cycle). I can't do the recommended 'graded exercise' as it knocks me for six. I'm very much an all or nothing type and that's not a good thing with ME.
I once went on the Atkins Diet and I felt great! for two weeks. Then it stopped working.
Nowadays, I go from feeling my normal, to feeling utterly dreadful. My normal is like wading shoulder deep through thick mud carrying a 5st child and having a tight band around my brain.

I now have a lump in my breast...worried about that. Told very few people, but going to breast clinic this coming week. There's more. I have to have an MRI to see what might be causing my excruciating and constant headaches.

Solo · 23/08/2015 01:46
