After Megglevache's inspirational thread and photos showing her FIVE STONE loss I am inspired to start yet again.

I'm not dieting. I'm just going to avoid wheat and sugar. And good waaaayyy back on wine.

So no bread, pasta, biscuits, cake, sweets, white rice etc.

I'm back too, got my rye bread out of the freezer snd my Fitbit charged up, ready to go tomorrow.

Mary - was it you that posted the recipe for easy cinnamon buns on another thread? Did them for Christmas morning, lovely they were. Have decided I will make them to take to work in my birthday next month to give myself something to look forward to.

CiderwithBuda · 04/01/2015 23:22

Hello! Happy new year and happy new us!

I have eaten my body weight (which is quite a lot) in xmas crap. And drunk the Suez Canal.

But Dry January starts tomorrow. As does diet. Or healthy eating. Or no crap carbs. Or whatever you want to call it.

Weighing in tomorrow. Yikes.

Planning green smoothie for breakfast. Meeting a friend for coffee at 11.30 so will have some oatcakes or something before I go. Having a facial at 1.15 so not sure when lunch will happen.

Dinner will be turkey and chorizo chilli. Poss with some brown rice.

Lots of water.

Need to hide all the crap.

So far today I've had a bowl of Morrisons copy all bran with almond milk, a satsuma and a coffee with soya milk.

Lunch will be some leftover butternut squash, Sweetcorn and peanut stew from yesterday, maybe with a Warburtons thin. I'll have a green smoothie with it too.

For dinner I was supposed to have almond crusted spicy cauliflower florets but despite spending £137 in Tesco yesterday I didn't manage to actually buy any of the ingredients apart from the cauliflower so I'll just roast the Cauli and have it with vegan cheese sauce, refried beans and a toasted tortilla wrap!

I'm doing dry January too- I didn't think I was much of a drinker, Friday nights aside but I've found it a bit hard so far! I used to be completely tee total for ages and would like to get back there to save calories and money (and probably some brain cells too!)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/01/2015 11:19

I haven't done dry Jan as we have been on holiday and I do enjoy a glass of wine in the evening when we're away, but will probably not drink again for the foreseeable, I managed dry Jan to Easter last year (I only really drink at Christmas and on holiday). I've put on a pound again over the festive perios, but it could have been worse, I have eaten all sorts of unhealthy stuff.

So far today I have had a piece of rye bread toast with soft cheese and marmite, a boiled egg and a milky coffee. Lunch will be supermarket sushi as I was too rushed to make a packed lunch before work. Planning chilli or spag bol for dinner with veg and either pasta or rice (small amounts).

I'm going for an average of 10,000 steps a day using the Fitbit, I'm below on the first week but got a couple of days to catch up, will be walking to the supermarket at lunchtime today. Ballet class tonight should help too.

So far so good here albeit not as planned.

Had porridge for breakfast rather than smoothie.
Then met a friend for coffee. Was starving after and needed something quick so bought a salmon and cucumber sandwich in M&S. Had half. Had a facial and then came home and have just had the other half.

Just sitting with a cuppa before heading to chiropractor in a few mins. I should have walked there really. Too late now.

Weighed in at 15st 13 and a quarter this morning. Ouch.

Happy New Year. Time for a new found enthusiasm for healthy eating! I have eaten terribly, walked nowhere and felt horrible and sluggish all holiday. I wore a killer dress on NYE even with the aid of a shrinking violet wrap and some sexy control pants I still felt like a frump!

The holiday is now over, Everyone is back to school and work tomorrow so I will weigh in and assess the damage in the morning.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/01/2015 21:52

Hi brokenhearted - good time to start, we're just reconvening after the break.

Not too bad here today:

Breakfast as described above
Lunch - sushi and fruit salad
Snacks - jerky, cheesy oatcakes and one dairylea triangle
Dinner - spag bol with very little spag, peas and some parmesan

Exercise - 11,800 steps and a ballet class

TheRealMaryMillington · 06/01/2015 08:56

Nice start who knows!

I too had ai most indolence and booze consuming Xmas/ny but I did manage a few runs and lazy yoga classes. According to my dodgy scales I'm 4 lbs ish less than I was when we started, but it's all very much a rough approximation.

Yesterday: chia pudding; celery and too much hazelnut butter; tomato and red pepper soup; spinach and chickpea curry with roast spiced cauliflower; few blueberries and apple pieces. I always eat like this, just too much of it.
I need to learn what is enough. Walked to yoga and back. Early to bed.

Today: uninspired re food thus far, have a yin yoga class booked for 10, hoping to get a run in too but the weather is grim, working afternoon/evening.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/01/2015 09:29

I slipped a bit last night and ate a few pieces of left over toffee. However this morning I have walked nearly 5000 steps already and am off to pilates class in a bit.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 07/01/2015 11:44

I still haven't faced the scales... will someone please boot me up the backside!!!

Having just booked a romantic break away I now have 20 weeks to feel half decent bearing my legs!

TheRealMaryMillington · 07/01/2015 20:18

Sooooo, Monday and Tuesday were great, yoga-ed ran, stayed within MFP calorie guidelines (noticing going over the fat recommendations, what with eating eating avocados and nut butters, so need to think about whether I am bothered about this - should I be?).

But today was busy, salad and hummus for lunch, nakd bar, then massive energy slump and I ate quite a lotsome of the children's oven chips that I was doing as a lazy tea and now I feel grotty. And stupid. Pulled myself together and went to what turned out to be quite a strong yoga class, so feel a bit better but wondering what this self-sabotage is all about. Also feel starving and demotivated and the weight of the world on me. Meh.

CiderwithBuda · 07/01/2015 23:24

Hey all.

Being good with actual meals but am struggling otherwise. Feeling down and upset about a situation with a relative so have been medicating with wine and chocolate.

Wanting to start walking and getting back to th gym and have hurt behind my knee somehow.

Not a great week so far.

Hoping to feel a bit better tomorrow. DS is back to school so normal routine might help.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 08/01/2015 09:16

Well after dodging the scales for as long as I could I braved it and discovered I am 1/4 of a lb lighter than before Christmas. I will take that!

This has given me the motivation to get back into it today. Going to brave Sainsburys this afternoon and spend my morning meal planning. I have been particularly bad with my water intake so that is top of my to do list.

Sorry you are having a hard time Cider, atleast you are doing well with meals. Sometimes you just need a glass of wine!

CiderwithBuda · 08/01/2015 09:38

A quarter of a pound in the right direction after xmas is good! I gained over four pounds over xmas so well done.

Plan for today is to avoid the chocolate at the very least. And drink water. I struggle with it in this weather though. Might try some herbal teas to replace some of my normal teas. And maybe warm water with lemon juice.

I'm supposed to be doing dry January - started well on Monday and failed miserably Tuesday and Wednesday!

OP posts:
WildFlowersAttractBees · 08/01/2015 09:48

Dry January is hard when it is so miserable outside. I am really forcing myself to drink more water but it does not come naturally in the colder months. However summer bod's are made in winter Wink so I best get on it!

I have 20 weeks until I go away with DH and we are currently looking for a family summer holiday that won't break the bank... whoever said having 3 kids wasn't too expensive fibbed!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/01/2015 10:54

I'm struggling too, main meals are ok but I'm snacking too much, I keep finding stashes of Christmas stuff (we went away for a week afterwards so lots got left behind/put away).

I've decided to go back to MyFitnessPal, haven't used it for 18 months or so, I have found in the past that it encourages me to eat to the limit and often go slightly over but it is good for getting a reality check as to what you are doing every time you snack and for portion control. Problem is with it that I don't really want the DCs to notice I am weighing things and logging them in my phone, we have enough issues with their eating as it is.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/01/2015 10:56

Oh and I've linked up my Fitbit to it to encourage me to walk more. Last night just before bed I noticed I was a few hundred steps short of my 10,000 so I put my coat and shoes on and headed out the front door, just as it turned midnight and reset to zero, too late!

I gave blood yesterday and feel a little weak still, plus it's pouring with rain, so might struggle today too. Did enjoy my biscuits afterwards though!

TheRealMaryMillington · 08/01/2015 11:14

I just had a plod on the beach, it was beautiful.

I was motivated by putting all the oven chips into MFP.

Also reading comforting articles about how unnatural it is to take on eating and drinking resolutions in January (and that September would be better for that). I am not committing to dry January, but I don't plan on drinking anything either iyswim, being vegan is proving challenging enough.

TheRealMaryMillington · 08/01/2015 11:17

Cider Pukka teas are very very nice - the liquorice and peppermint, 3 cinnamon and lemon, ginger and manuka (only a trace of honey).

Also lemon (or lime) and fresh mint, or lemon and fresh ginger in warm/hot water, make drinking water easier for me, a positive treat in fact.

CiderwithBuda · 08/01/2015 11:57

A walk on the beach sounds lovely.

Do I need a Fitbit? Or do I just need to get off my arse? Grin. Very impressed at you attempting to up your steps so late! I was asleep by then.

I have a pedometer somewhere. Will hunt it out.

I think dry January might have been a step too far. I have changed to a lower alcohol wine and I don't have as much of it. It's a nice NZ Sauv Blanc. Found a low alcohol wine in Morrisons that was nice with soda water so might buy some more of that.

I keep finding xmas stuff too WhoKnows. There is one mince pie left. Wish DH would eat it.

TheRealMary - I have some nice teas. I like lemon and ginger, peppermint and I have a fennel one.

Are you completely vegan? I found a 21 day vegan cleanse - it's put together by two American girls who also do a 30 day green smoothie challenge thing. I've bought the cleanse and they do a 'live' one in February. Have been thinking about it!

Have you seen the Deliciously Ella blog? Not sure if she is vegan but I think so. Lots of lovely recipes anyway which might inspire you.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 08/01/2015 22:22

Well not only have I stuck to my meal plan today the doctor has put me on a horrible course of antibiotics that I strictly can't drink with and she seems to think will make me feel most unwell and put me off my food. perhaps she thought I needed to drop a few pounds too.

TheRealMaryMillington · 09/01/2015 10:00

Morning!

I made myself a green smoothie this morning. It wasn't very nice. Does anyone have recipes for a good one?

Not completely vegan Cider, apart from attempting it this month. Taking it a day at a time. I've had spells of veganism before (2-3 years each time) and was vegetarian until about a fortnight before I gave birth to DD and Just.Had.To.Eat.Rare.Steak. So omnivorous since then but I still have problems with factory farming and eating animals so I've decided to move towards veganism again this year.

Another resolution is to de-reg from Amazon, but I have not managed that yet and so ordered the Anna Jones Modern Way to Eat recipe book for £12 - it is great - just how I want to eat at the moment, simple, clean. Will report back on any good recipes. I think Ella of Deliciously is bringing a book out soon too.

Hope you are not feeling too yukky Wildflowers. Sometimes its good to have to abstain on Doctors orders, it feels less self-punishing.

It is VILE weather here today but I am going to force myself out either for a run or cycle to the swimming baths. Lots of work to do and the house is a TIP but need to prioritise getting the exercise in.

Anyone got any tips to stop snacking in the evenings? At the moment it is my downfall - I snack on healthy enough stuff but its just more calories I don't need.

CecyHall · 09/01/2015 10:14

Lost a pound this week. Which is ok I suppose but I felt I ate better than that.
