Standards have slipped!

My little part time job has become almost full time, the kids have been home and it's been too hot to keep my running up. The old healthy eating has slipped too. Sugar has crept in and weight has crept on

So, sept 1st

Weigh
Measure
Start running weekly x 3
Back to bootcamp
Juicing and healthy eating

And I'm going to track the lot on myfitnesspal/mapmyrun/fitbug.com

Oh, and for the first time in going to do the water thing. 2 litres a day. That is new for me but achievable I think

So, gives us about 3 1/2 months til Christmas. Anyone else?

Well done with giving up smoking, never easy!

Just back from running club. It's warm out today! My kids are loving the stew/casserole/soups I'm making. I'm making cottage pie today (for them) but I'll prob end up with a small portion and loads of extra veg.

Supposed to be baking as on drizzle 'for them' too..... Best thing about teens is they eat lots! So no worrying that it will be left to tempt me

Think I will weigh in weds, fingers crossed! Hoping it's a good loss for this month

agree, let's all weigh in tomorrow or wed then review our goals. great suggestion

AggressiveBunting · 30/09/2014 03:05

Good plan- weighing tomorrow.

I've had plenty of exercise this week running away from the riot police (only kidding). Awesome week to be living in HK and seeing the world's most polite protesters ask nicely for democracy whilst doing their homework (I kid you not) in the middle of the road. But my God they are young. Long may the peaceful protest last, and please let them reopen the schools next week cos the kids are driving me nuts Grin.

Did Crossfit yesterday and 7 miles on the treadmill this morning. Crossfit again tomorrow and last long run on Thursday.

bakingtins · 30/09/2014 11:26

Weigh in today starts with a nine for the first time (9st13lb) bringing total loss for this month to 7lb, and I've also lost 1.5" from my waist and 2" from hips Smile

Goal for October is another half stone off and to fit in HIIT 4 times a week and core exercises every day.

CarbeDiem · 30/09/2014 12:40

Well done losers and shrinkers.

Gah! My weight's gone up :( I'm currently 78 kilos (^1)
I expected more tbh.
My measurements are the same as last week, with the exception of my mummy tummy which is half a cm up today (due to the fact I'm having toilet ishoo's, which probably is mostly responsible for my weight gain) - but I'm happy with that.
I have been picking a bit more than normal, due to not smoking but mostly it's been healthy stuff. Veg sticks, fruit and home made flap jack/granola stuff with simple no added sugar ingredients.
Still struggling a bit without the fags and not sleeping properly but once I feel a bit better I'm going to get tougher and go back to NO snacks.
At the moment, getting through this is more important to me.

On the plus side - My back is almost fit enough and I will be able to resume some kettlebells/hiit/whatever/ very soon - that should help.

Off for a long walk.
Take care and have a good day X

tiggyhop · 30/09/2014 13:31

will weigh and report tomorrow as I forgot this morning. off for a run before workSmile Smile Smile

AggressiveBunting · 30/09/2014 13:48

Carbe I suspect I'll be joining you on the weight gain bench this week. Just glugged half a bottle of wine with DH (public holiday here, so we figured it counts as weekend) and also an M&S steak pie cos I got off a conference call too late to deal with making the planned Greek salad. The best laid plans and all that....Well done on staying off the cancer sticks though!! It's a tough one to crack. I gave up on my 14th serious attempt (with loads of hungover "I'm never smoking again" fake promises in between)

CarbeDiem · 30/09/2014 17:18

Thanks Aggressive - it's a weird feeling isn't it? trying to break the actual habit.
It's the first time bar 3X pregnancies I've stopped properly in over 22 years of smoking. Oof! I can't imagine even having a sip of alcohol at this stage, I used to :) (sounds very strange) smoke like a bloody chimney after alcohol.
Well done to you too for finally giving up and good luck with the scales.

HeySoulSister · 30/09/2014 17:49

don't feel any slimmer at all....but ive done loads this month!

will see what the scales and tape measure say tomorrow....then its on it even stricter for October!!

VashtaNerada · 01/10/2014 07:55

Weight stayed the same this week which is not bad considering! Hoping for a loss next week though...

carriewintermeadow · 01/10/2014 08:24

Lost the plot yesterday and had fish and chips then a bar (!) of chocolate in the evening and a glass of wine Blush Need to get back on track today.

HeySoulSister · 01/10/2014 09:22

It's weigh in day....... BUT Sod's law I have had a UTI for last couple of days and I'm sloshing water trying to flush it out!!! So I don't want water weight on the scales!! AIBU to wait a few days to weigh??

On a positive note, I hear London marathon ballot results are released... So I'm slightly panicked in case I get a place! Highl unlikely but it's been an exciting wait thinking 'what if'....

OP posts:
HeySoulSister · 01/10/2014 09:23

carrie and vashta it's a new month!! Time for new starts..

OP posts:
Suffolkelf · 01/10/2014 10:43

I weighed myself in Boots this morning, the difference between the 1/09 and today is:
BMI is now 25.9 was 26.9
Weight is 5lb less.
Body fat % is now 37.4% was 38.1%

I have lost 1" on the waist, 1/2" hips, 1" thighs, 1/2" upper arms and no change on the calves.

I am quite pleased, although I think I will have to make some bigger changes to my lifestyle if I want to see similar results by the end of October.

VashtaNerada · 01/10/2014 15:26

That's brilliant Suffolk - my ultimate aim is to get my BMI down to 25 (currently hovering around 30)

bakingtins · 01/10/2014 15:49

Well done suffolk

soul have you heard about the marathon yet?

HeySoulSister · 01/10/2014 17:41

VashtaNerada · 03/10/2014 06:28

It's not been a great week for me, I'm so tired and under the weather I've not been exercising or paying much attention to what I eat. However... last night DS slept through for the first time in a week and I've woken up refreshed and ready to start the day. Should be okay now. Phew!

CarbeDiem · 03/10/2014 18:44

Well done losers and congrats to you too Soul - Wow! A marathon. Terrifies me just trying to imagine Shock

It's not a great week for me too Vash :( Glad you've had a better sleep, it makes all the difference imo, I hate being tired it makes me moody, miserable as well as lethargic.

Well all I can say is Thank fuck the Lord that I lost a few kilos BEFORE packing the cigs in because you can bet your life I'm going to put the friggers back on if I continue picking the way I am. :(
I'm trying so hard to keep it healthy - pumpkin/sunflower seeds. Home made flapjack but I've eaten some crisps a few times in the last few days (like 3 or 4 handfuls) quite a few chocolates and my worst enemy of all .... wheat has made a comeback. Oh, and I've also eaten a Big mac. FFS!
I can feel my wobbly bits coming back and my tummy is so so bloated :( On top of the need to snack my appetite has naturally increased :( :( This isn't going to end well for my arse and waistline is it?

bakingtins · 04/10/2014 08:34

carbe I reckon kicking the fags will massively outweigh a few extra pounds in terms of your long term health. You know you can lose the weight when you are ready, must be tough trying to do both at once.

vashta hope the good nights have continued? One of the pieces of advice on my Mutu program is to get enough sleep, as excess cortisol makes you store fat round your middle. Are you listening, DD?

bakingtins · 04/10/2014 08:39

Someone on another thread recommended the book 'Fat Chance - the bitter truth about sugar' by Dr Robert Lustig and I thought it was very interesting so passing it along. It has a lot of biochemistry in it to refute the idea that 'a calorie is a calorie' and how you get it doesn't matter.

CarbeDiem · 04/10/2014 09:51

I'm trying to hang on to that thought Baking - I can lose lbs after, hopefully :)
I've read a bit of Dr Lustig. It's quite interesting but conflicts with some other Dr's regarding the eating fats = causes heart attacks. I'm on the fence with that as A)the info we've been given for the last 30/40 years was never scientifically proven and B) there's a lot of 'new' studies/information which could prove otherwise. In general I try to follow a bit of everything - nothing in excess etc.... :)

One day we'll have the actual TRUTH about it all - probably not in our life time though as they all can't seem to agree for longer than 2 minutes.

I'm decorating today - which hopefully will stop me snacking. Well I would be if I got off MN - I'm prepped so that's a start :)

bakingtins · 05/10/2014 12:05

I think in the book, rather than in various articles online, he comes across as more moderate, advocating a diet including whole grain carbs, fruit etc but no or v little refined sugar. He's not a big fan of high-fat either but does say we need to get our essential fats from good sources. The book is extensively referenced ( at least 20% of the book on my kindle is lists of studies) and he's not promoting any products or a particular diet plan, so seems relatively unbiased. I think the rule of moderation in all things probably serves you well. I read it in response to a thread where someone was arguing that if you were slim and ate your TDEE in Mars bars that was better than being overweight with a healthy diet.....
