Standards have slipped!

My little part time job has become almost full time, the kids have been home and it's been too hot to keep my running up. The old healthy eating has slipped too. Sugar has crept in and weight has crept on

So, sept 1st

Weigh
Measure
Start running weekly x 3
Back to bootcamp
Juicing and healthy eating

And I'm going to track the lot on myfitnesspal/mapmyrun/fitbug.com

Oh, and for the first time in going to do the water thing. 2 litres a day. That is new for me but achievable I think

So, gives us about 3 1/2 months til Christmas. Anyone else?

I get them very frequently, usually don't last long and I'm towards the end of this one. They make me very, very hungry in the early stages and I obviously can't exercise, so they're not great when trying to lose weight! I'll be sensible tonight and tomorrow though. Hopefully up to exercising tomorrow too.

thedrummerswife · 20/09/2014 23:07

Sorry to hear you've had a migraine, hope it's gone now. I get them too and they make me crave carbs too.

HeySoulSister · 20/09/2014 23:08

Sounds horrible. Hope you are well by now and well rid of your migraine

Had a good day. Salad at lunchtime. Salad with small portion of risotto for dinner. Dd2 didn't like hers so I ate it. It wasn't huge so I'm hoping it wasn't too bad. I don't use mfp any more, I kind of estimate my calories.

Now I think about it I'm wondering if I finished off dd2s uneaten breakfast. Maybe I wasn't as good as I thought!

thedrummerswife · 20/09/2014 23:39

Despite being full of cold, had a good day today. Got up late, had an omelette for brunch and 2 sausages with cabbage, cauliflower and swede for dinner. I'm drinking lots of water to try and flush out the cold and clear my nose.

Hello everyone bakingtins suggested I come over here. I'm am trying to lose weight, my biggest problem is portion control. It's been suggested on my other thread that I try and put a lot more veg on my plate. I was thinking of going for a smaller plate size as well. I also run (not very fast) but will aim to get out 3-4 times a week.
I haven't weighed myself recently, and wondered if I should so I can keep better track of how am I doing...

HeySoulSister · 21/09/2014 09:29

Hey wibbly! Welcome

I'd also suggest taking measurements. Sometimes it's more encouraging than the scales.

I don't run fast either, but as long as you're out there and moving then it doesn't matter.

Kids (and DH!) desperate for a Toby Carvery today. Will exercise willpower and have turkey, veg and NOTHING ELSE.

HeySoulSister · 21/09/2014 09:49

Off to drop eldest back at uni today.... 6 hours on the car! I'm just back from running club, 6k timed run in lovely autumn sunshine. Was very pleased that I was only 8 mins behind the clubs fastest runner! Going to have led tu butter on toast before the drive. And got carrot sticks to munch in the car

Other dd is cooking a roast dinner for tonight.... Her first. So will look forward to that when we get back

Good luck today everyone.... Lovely day for an afternoon walk Wink

Morning all.
Welcome wibbly
I was the same with portion control. I now use a small square plate, it's a bit bigger than a sandwich. The majority of my food goes on it, usually no more unless it's salad or veg - then I may have a bit more if I fancy.
Yes to doing your measurements - it's really helpful to check, especially if you feel the lbs are not going down then you check the measurements and find you've lost a few cms - keeps you motivated.

Yesterday was horrendous for cravings, I don't know what's wrong with me.
I almost gave in when DH said he fancied a Domino's .... but didn't. Instead I made a nice Italian sauce with fresh basil, garlic and toms, threw some home made meatballs in and served with wheat free spaghetti. - Obviously because the spaghetti is not all that carby my craving didn't go away.

Later I had a handful of salty popcorn DH cooked up and a big handful of snack mix - mostly consisting of dry Goji berries and a few walnuts. Then forced myself to go to bloody sleep :)

Today I've just had my porridge so still have a full happy tummy.
Not sure what's for dinner, maybe fish.
Have a nice day all.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 21/09/2014 12:51

Welcome wibbly

Portion control was one of my problems too. I had lost the ability to read my body's signals for hunger and being full. I also ate really quickly and was trained in the 70s to eat all food from my plate (because 'there are starving children in Africa who would love that over cooked slop pasta')

Overnight I switched to teeny portions with large portions of veg and I can honestly say I haven't really noticed. So for lunch today I'll have a small portion of cottage pie (based on hairy bikers diet version) with lots of cabbage (inspired by one of you, thank you!) and lots of spinach. Dh will have a huge portion and it doesn't feel like I'm on a diet.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 21/09/2014 13:30

Lunch was a success although predictably dds scoffed down the cottage pie and turned their nose up at the spinach and cabbage. I smugly smiled knowing the cottage pie had about 7 vegetables in it including celery and shredded courgette, things they'd never eat normally!

wibblyjelly · 21/09/2014 13:33

Thanks for the warm welcome. It's a bit hard to start today, as we are staying at the in-laws, but will turn over a new leaf tomorrow.
Does anyone have any ideas they can share for packed lunches for work? At the moment I take a portion of what we had for dinner the previous night, but that's probably not helping!

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 21/09/2014 14:26

Not working now but I used to take salads. I like a Greek salad with low cal feta, peppers, red onions, olives and perhaps a pita bread and tiny amount of hummus or veg sticks.

I also used to find a Nicoise filling so hard boiled egg, beans, leaves, tuna, olives.

I used to make a dressing with about 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Now I do it with about a desert (dessert?) spoon and really shake the contained to get it everywhere.

Even a single rasher of bacon with a small handful of nuts, mustardy dressing, avocado, spinach is lovely.

thedrummerswife · 21/09/2014 14:53

I take a food flask full of home made thick vegetable soup to work in the autumn/winter, salad with feta/tuna/cold chicken breast/cold bacon and cheese in the summer Smile

VashtaNerada · 21/09/2014 15:22

I'm on WW so lots of flexibility, but I used to take a ham & marmite sandwich, lots of fruit and a diet coke. Recently have been buying a Boots Shapers salad each day but it's getting pricey!
Toby Carvery update: turkey, carrots, peas, green beans. No Yorkshire. No potatoes. No gravy. BOOM!!

wibblyjelly · 21/09/2014 16:04

Well done Vashta!

bakingtins · 21/09/2014 19:15

vashta I'm impressed. A paragon of self control!

I've had a good day, my "super porridge" for breakfast ( with chia seeds, ground flax/hemp, mixed berries) veggie soup for lunch, and veggie enchilada bake for dinner which was delicious. You layer up roast vegetables ( I did butternut squash, sweet potato, pepper, broccoli, onion, chilli, garlic and fry-light) corn tortillas, fresh spinach, tomato salsa and a bit of cheese, like a lasagne, and bake for 20 mins. I resisted all the cakes on offer at my work open day

Hopefully my efforts will be reflected in the scales tomorrow...

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 21/09/2014 20:12

Well done vashta i would struggle to not fill my plate with carbs.

baking that sounds yummy. I have just added tomatoes and coriander to my online shopping list so I can try a home made salsa and maybe make some enchiladas. Dh loves tex mex so it should be popular (if he doesn't notice I add yogurt to it rather than sour cream)

Good luck tomorrow. You certainly deserve to lose a couple of lbs.

Dinner tonight was leftovers - salad and a couple of tablespoons of risotto I made dds yesterday. Very filling but it's that time of night where I start to crave food even though I'm not hungry. I think I'll do some housework to take my mind off it.

AggressiveBunting · 22/09/2014 04:27

The exercise gods have deigned to award me a 1lb weight loss this week, despite the wrath of the clean eating gods, and possibly with slight assistance from the dehydration gods. This week, exercise-wise I'm just going to keep on keeping on. On the food front, it can only get better and I need to drink more water.

HeySoulSister · 22/09/2014 07:41

Yes! Need to take more water too.

A new week starts. Needed a belt with some chinos yesterday! Never usually need one but they are quite baggy and unflattering without

Run/bootcamp this morning then house stuff for rest of the day. Back to work on Wednesday for me. I have a physical, get sweaty and dirty kind of job. Have missed it!

Good luck today everyone

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 22/09/2014 07:54

Well done aggressive and soulsister my trousers are still very tight however I have lost 2lbs this week! Very pleased.

I hope everyone else has a good day.

bakingtins · 22/09/2014 08:01

I'm going to stop weighing in on Mondays! Stayed the same despite a good week. I will try the reweigh on Tuesday trick again. Maybe I don't drink enough water over the weekend? I've been ok on the food front. It's not a great start to the week when you feel all deflated.
I've subscribed to a very cheap offer to trial vibration plate training, there's a place close to me. Anyone tried this?

AggressiveBunting · 22/09/2014 08:35

I have a physical, get sweaty and dirty kind of job

Are you?

a) A professional mud wrestler
b) A landscape gardener or
c) A Vietcong tunnel rat re-enactor

CarbeDiem · 22/09/2014 15:09

Hi all, hope you're all well.

My carb craving has gone but I've got a FOUL mood and I'm feeling rather depressed and sad today.
AF arrived this morning which resulted in 30 minutes of full on sobbing my heart out because obviously, yet again, I'm not pregnant. So today I pretty much hate my useless body :(

DH, after he persuaded me to stop crying bless him, dragged me out for a long walk and some shopping. So at least I've had some fresh air and a bit exercise.

Usually my emotional eating would be in full flow today but I haven't reached for the cakes/choc/shite - I think I just feel too pissed off to eat anything to be honest.

Breakfast was porridge and dinner will be home made pork goulash with kasza (buckwheat) Water is out of the window today and I've drank way more coffee's than I should.

I probably won't weigh in tomorrow due to being bloated from my period but I might still check some of my measurements that aren't affected by twatting hormones- maybe just my thighs then :)

Sorry for whinging.

Hope everyone else has had a better day.
