Standards have slipped!

My little part time job has become almost full time, the kids have been home and it's been too hot to keep my running up. The old healthy eating has slipped too. Sugar has crept in and weight has crept on

So, sept 1st

Weigh
Measure
Start running weekly x 3
Back to bootcamp
Juicing and healthy eating

And I'm going to track the lot on myfitnesspal/mapmyrun/fitbug.com

Oh, and for the first time in going to do the water thing. 2 litres a day. That is new for me but achievable I think

So, gives us about 3 1/2 months til Christmas. Anyone else?

soulsister I am so jealous of you and carbe for being tall. You could probably be a size 16 and look amazing whereas I just looked dumpy at that size.

I went to a coffee morning and the mum looked like she'd catered for 20 of us (there were about 5 of us) so I ate about seven cakes and pastries! I did weigh myself and I was down 0.9lbs since Tuesday so I am going to have to be really good for the rest of the week now.

tiggyhop · 18/09/2014 13:43

Not doing so well here this week - tired, sore from what little exercise I have done and not eating well at all. Oh and drinking wine in the evenings... right, pulling myself together, am off for 3 mile cycle/1 mile run before work.

tiggyhop · 18/09/2014 15:31

OK, managed the cycle/run and stretching and it wasn't too dreadful. Will try to have a healthy eating day too. How's everyone else doing?

BirdyGoLightly · 18/09/2014 21:21

I'm hungry!

BirdyGoLightly · 18/09/2014 21:25

But sticking with it. Until my holiday anyway where I'm going to just try not to pig out!

I'm reading a really good book which is helping with motivation, I would recommend it. It's called 'skinny thinking'. Not keen on the name but I've found it really helpful so far. I must have about 20 diet books, none of which have worked. Hoping this one will keep working for me.

It's my DH's birthday tomorrow and we're going to a coffee shop in the morning so he can have tea and cake. I'm not sure how I'm going to resist all the nice things in there but I will try....

Hope everyone has a nice weekend. I'm a shorty too by the way (5ft 3 and a bit).

BirdyGoLightly · 18/09/2014 21:26

Ps well done tiggy on the exercise. I need to start exercising as I don't do anything at the mo

CarbeDiem · 18/09/2014 22:04

Johnny - You're right I don't look too bad at a 16 and when I was bigger, many moons ago, people often misjudged my clothes size for smaller (I was 18/20) It certainly helps having very long legs (inside leg 34'' so a whole 2'10inches of my height is leg :)) but.... I feel like shite and don't feel healthy.

Thank God I'm understood about the salmon :)
I do enjoy other oily fish - Here I can get my mitts on my favourite - smoked mackerel and herring, naturally smoked not fake smoked - it's dirt cheap too.
Cod here is quite expensive because I'm not near the sea and with only one coast to this Country - it's not brought inland as much as I'd like. We eat it fresh probably once a week, sometimes two and use other or frozen fish as well.

Another decent day here, I've eaten sensible food Been for a good walk.
I'm feeling rather rubbish, been feeling like a cold/flu is coming for over a week now, I just can't shake it off - whatever it is. I wish it would either turn into a cold or kindly piss off.
I made a big batch of Chicken and veg soup today so I'll be eating that for the next few days.

Keep up the good work ladies.

Psst - To those who are being naughty...... BEHAVE!!!

Exercise damage limitation at least until the weekend.

HeySoulSister · 18/09/2014 22:51

Or just exercise!!

OP posts:
thedrummerswife · 18/09/2014 23:08

I struggle with fish, all fish really, I can't stand the smell. I only really like battered fish and chips Blush

I haven't eaten very sensibly over the past week, but really need to try harder, as even my "fat jeans" are uncomfortably tight Blush

Just cutting out chocolate, crisps and cake would be a start Sad

CarbeDiem · 19/09/2014 00:15

Or just exercise!! Yeah....or that. :)

I'm like that with chips drummer I won't eat home made, frozen, oven.
I only like real fish shop ones when the mood takes me - here there's no fish and chip shops so I can't have some on the rare occasion I do fancy some even if I wanted to.

I am a fish fan, just not the sort that smell and taste like sea. Also not the kinds that there's no point in eating really like sole - where's the damn meat? :)

AggressiveBunting · 19/09/2014 02:13

I love McDonald's Chips (I know that's a massive MN fail) but I also love real proper "fried in beef fat" chip shop chips. My uncle used to have a chippie chain and he did the most awesome chips.

Anyway, enough carb porn. Once again I'm doing well on the exercise but badly on the food. Yesterday I did a 20km run with a friend early doors (it's still averageing 33 degrees here with 90% humidity so need to get our early or late), and then ate well all day, and then did another 5km run in the evening with a group from work, which includes 1 x 400 stair climb and 1x 1000 stair climb.

Sounds great, right? What could possibly go wrong? Well then we got the bus to the pub and I had 2 pints of lager shandy and a burger and chips. Arrghhh. How do these clean eating types manage it?I guess maybe it helps to be tee total and also just say "No I think I'll go home" rather than go to the pub when hungry.

VashtaNerada · 19/09/2014 04:06

If I'm in danger of burger and chips at the pub (which I may well be tonight!) I eat something beforehand, even if it's just a cereal bar on the bus, so I'm not absolutely famished when I get there. Sometimes helps. I wouldn't worry now though! It probably did less damage because of the exercise.

HeySoulSister · 19/09/2014 07:22

I keep seeing stuff about 'stair climbing'... Is it a thing now? Climbing snowdon a few weeks ago was enough I think!

Supposed to be running this morning followed by bootcamp. But was raining heavily earlier, brighter now so will go along anyway.

OP posts:
thedrummerswife · 19/09/2014 08:43

I like any sort of chips/fries Sad

I like the taste of salmon - well, with lots of Mayo - but just don't like the fishy smell. I do actually like plaice and sole though.

After one sensible day yesterday, today I'm 2 lbs down! Shock Hope I can stick with it now.

AggressiveBunting · 19/09/2014 08:47

Ha ha- not really, or at least I dont think it is a thing, but in HK it's wholly necessary on certain routes because it's so damn hilly, and due to erosion, the government has cut steps into the most popular steep trails as otherwise they'd become unusable within a few years. The trail we tend to do on a week night, because it starts close to the office, is a set of 3 peaks, with steps up and down each side (and some trail as well). The trail I do in the week on my own has far fewer steps and is mainly contour trail. The race I'm doing in a few weeks has one big peak with a 500m ascent which is almost all steps, so I need to practice, even though I wouldnt normally choose to do a stepped trail as it's boring and coming down is hard on the knees.

In short, I dont think stair climbing is that ideal for people over 40- it's ok if you dont come down, but running down 1000 stairs is for fools.

Climbing stairs is very strenuous and good for cardio fitness though.

thedrummerswife · 19/09/2014 11:55

I've also measured myself and I'm 1.5 inches down on last week, so making slow progress.

HeySoulSister · 19/09/2014 12:11

I'm part of a face book running group where lots of people are in America. It is a thing over there.... They meet up and spend the evening running up stairwells in multi storey buildings and skyscrapers.... It's a thing and as we have a lack of hills here in Bedfordshire I'm thinking I'd like a go!

I did my 4 mile run this morning and then on to bootcamp where I found we were doing 'the hill'.... A tree lined steep hill we do sprints up! That was tough. Then a run with exercises along the way, tricep dips on benches etc

I've eaten nothing yet! No appetite and I run 'fasted' so no breakfast either. Dinner last night was a veg curry. Will weigh tomorrow I think

AggressiveBunting · 19/09/2014 12:40

I once did a stair race up the Emirates tower in Dubai (52 floors). Can happily say it was the least fun I've ever had bar childbirth. I would defriend these people immediately. No good can come of it Grin

VashtaNerada · 20/09/2014 06:07

So I fucked up last night! Three units of alcohol and a fishfinger sandwich with chips Blush. Back on it today...

HeySoulSister · 20/09/2014 09:15

Today is housework day and baking day! Choc malteser cake for the kids!

Early morning run tomorrow then I'm returning DD to uni so will be stuck in the car for a 6 hour return journey! Need some suitable snacks for that.

Didn't eat much yesterday. Think I over exercised as I had no appetite afterwards.

OP posts:
bakingtins · 20/09/2014 09:20

vashta all that matters is that you get 'back on it' again. The 80:20 rule comes into play - you need to eat right 80% of the time. Don't let a fishfinger sandwich derail your weekend.

CarbeDiem · 20/09/2014 14:56

Well done losers and shrinkers - keep it up.

Vash - Write it off and get straight back on it. You can pull it back, it's just a slip.

I'm doing okay but I have had the worst attack/cravings for carbs. ALL carbs and ANY carbs :( I've not felt like that for a long time. I had some normal toast in the freezer so made 2 slices of toast, one with butter one with nutella - It's done NOTHING so I'm ignoring it now and overfilling my stomach with water until it sloshes and I physically can't eat.

Enjoy your weekend everyone.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 20/09/2014 16:08

Every time I leave mn for a couple of days I came back to find loads of talk about exercise. Stair walking

About a year and a half ago I tried the 30 day shred and couldn't manage half of it! I have quite dodgy knees so need to find something more low impact. My local leisure centre has a few 'easy' classes but whenever I go they're filled with the most amazing fit 70/80 year olds who make me feel so pathetic! Might get the wii out to at least do something when dds are in bed.

Thursdays was a write off. Lots of carby pastries and bread. Incredibly I turned things around and yesterday was salad for lunch and fish for dinner. Today we've been to pizza express and I had a chicken salad with only 450 cals. Dinner will be tricky as I'm cooking with leftovers so it might be risotto or pasta with whatever veg we have in the house. I will try to have a small portion.

Vashta I hope today's going well.

drummers wife well done. 2lbs and 1 1/2 inches is awesome.

VashtaNerada · 20/09/2014 16:13

Today's not been great because I've had a terrible migraine which makes me crave carbs. Very nearly agreed to a takeaway tonight but luckily thought better! Should be back on track now.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 20/09/2014 16:22

I'm sorry to hear about migraine but well done for swerving the takeaway. It's very easy for one day to become two bad days and so on so if you can resist the takeaway it should get easier. I hope your migraine goes quickly, luckily I've never had one, but I know they are hideous.
