New week, new thread, new ooomph to get some more weight shifted

Hi MrsJC - I thought your DD looked tired and don't worry about the attention thing, I thought that came with the territory with a 2 yr old? Nice to meet you too, such a shame that you're off to NZ so soon - though obviously not for you!

MrsJohnCusack · 31/07/2006 13:15

that seems like a pretty good description of suejonez to me. I am rubbish at describing people. very friendly looking I think too

I wish I could come on Saturday but I have to take DD to run riot (& refuse to sleep and get hysterically overtired yet again) and meet friends in London

schneebly that's what I was thinking - that maybe you were musing on a name because you vaguely 'knew' something was up!

suejonez · 31/07/2006 13:20

Lol at "very friendly looking" - have never thought of myself that way at all! Don't know why not, I don;t bare my teeth at random strangers. I suppose I always think of descriptions as physical characteristics but I suppose general impressions can be just as helpful.

On reflection I think I am quite flattered by that, thanks MrsJC you can come and play again!

winnie · 31/07/2006 15:12

obviously, as you are on week 12 it is a bit late BUT can I join too?

I have seven stone to lose and am dealing with a lot of stress but know life is too short to carry on like this. I have health issues. Lost 15 lbs in a few weeks doing Slimming World but life took over and if I am not careful I will regain that soon.

Is it possible for everyone to say have they've done in those 12 weeks? That would give me the inspiration I need. Thank you

suejonez · 31/07/2006 15:44

Hello Winnie - WWB posts weigh changes each week if you email her (but you don;t have to if you don;t want to)

This is last weeks post...

Sue, I've finally found the difference between us. I'm 5'9", have brown hair and brown freckles ... but I have blue eyes

OK, so the figures:

Alittlebitshy: stayed the same (total 12lb)
Coppertop: +1 (total 8lb)
JackeiNo: -2 (total 21lb)
Schneebly: stayed the same (total 11.5lb)
Suejonez: +2 (total 9lb)
WWB: stayed the same (total 14lb)

Big, big, big cheer for JackieNo, who not only gets the crown this week, she's also lost a whopping stone and a half.

Here's this week's line

You're in good company - I have about 10 stone to lose and am struggling but still doing better than I was 12 weeks ago! The original thought behind this thread was to support those who had serious amounts to lose and were therefore likely to be at it for some time and also probably had more issues than most around food.

We have a few people on here just trying to maintain their weight for various reasons.

Welcome!

winnie · 31/07/2006 16:52

suejonez, thanks
I will weigh in the morning & send details to WWB if thats ok. When is weighin day?

WigWamBam · 31/07/2006 16:55

Nice to have you along, Winnie! Weigh-in is Wednesday, and I usually post the losses on Thursday morning. You can email me your starting weight if you like or just the amount you lose if you don't want me knowing your weight. The email address is [email protected]

OP posts:
winnie · 31/07/2006 16:59

WWB, I will email you my start weight for Wednesday. This is going to be a long haul BUT it will be worth it

Thank you... you are all doing great

WigWamBam · 31/07/2006 17:02

It is a long haul, isn't it. I've got at least 10 stone, probably more, to lose and it just seems such a mountain to climb. We'll do it though; slowly and steadily.

OP posts:
winnie · 31/07/2006 17:08

To be honest it's just nice to know I am not the only person in the world with a lot to lose. Initially it would just be good to lose the 10% body weight and see where it goes from there. I just want to feel healthier and enjoy my life more than I do. Being overweight is physically restricting however much one tries to hide it. I have found myself really struggling in the heatwave

suejonez · 31/07/2006 17:12

I think we all have smaller goals to aim for, we also tried to think of non-weight loss goals to aim for in the first few weeks. Mine was to do structured exercise 3 times a week and to stop eating crap on the way home (pasties and other suck junk).

On the whole I've been reasonably succesful with that which has kept me motivated even though my weigh loss has been hard - my initial goal is first stone!

winnie · 31/07/2006 17:14

Can I ask, is everyone following a prescribed diet or are there people here just eating less/exercising more?

Slimming World has worked for me (although when I stop doing it the weight goes back on) so I know I need to learn to eat like a thinner person rather than simply diet, lose the weight and not break/deal with all the bad habits/issues I have with food.

suejonez · 31/07/2006 17:14

suck junk?! quite apt but of course I meant such junk!

whilst I remember, we don't usually bother correcting typos unless it changes the meaning of the sentence - we're quite smart on this thread - we can ususally work out what you mean even if you make a mistake!

suejonez · 31/07/2006 17:15

I'm very vaguely following a weigh Wathcers approach but TBH its not exactly a "diet" - as low saturated fat as possible, plenty of veg and fresh food, very little alcohol or take away.

winnie · 31/07/2006 17:17

suejonez, that makes sense. Maybe my first goal will be to only eat when I am hungry (HA!) (shock) and only eat things that are good for me but give myself a treat at the weekend & to do 3 x exercise a week too... easy

JackieNo · 31/07/2006 17:17

Welcome winnie. I'm just cutting down on portion sizes, trying to have healthy snacks instead of chocolate. Still not managing to do any exercise though.

winnie · 31/07/2006 17:19

hello jackieno

suejonez · 31/07/2006 17:19

lol - yup easy!

I think its v important to make sure you eat enough food that you like/think of as treats. We have such a long way to go that you need to feel that you're living (IYKWIM) not just existing.

Luckily I don;t drink much anyway and frankly can;t really lose weigh eating the takeaways I like to, however I do manage to fit in the odd bag of chip shop chips as a treat with something lower cal than battered fish - chicken breat or baked beans. Might not sound much of a treat but I love it.

winnie · 31/07/2006 17:22

suejonez, that makes perfect sense.

suejonez · 31/07/2006 17:23

ajckie - you've done so well I'm that you've done it without exercise. I stand no chance unless I exercise. It's the insulin resistance it improves if you exercise vigorously.

JackieNo · 31/07/2006 17:26

I really need to start doing some sort of exercise, I think, but I've got no idea how to work it into my routine. I have a yogalates DVD that I bought not so long ago, thinking I'd try to loosen up and stretch a bit before I did anything more aerobic, but have I done it? Have I bllcks. Also too embarrassed to do it in front of DH (some very strange positions). Weirdly, going to the gym wouldn't bother me too much, but it's finding the time.

JackieNo · 31/07/2006 17:28

That would be 'b@ll@cks' (using the * just made the 'll' bold) Oh why don't I just spell it out in full - BOLLOCKS!!.

JackieNo · 31/07/2006 17:28

sorry.

suejonez · 31/07/2006 17:34

pmsl!

that'll teach you to try to be clever with your fancy boldy things!

coppertop · 31/07/2006 20:36

Welcome to the club, Winnie.

I'm not following a particular diet either. The main changes I've made have been to eat less at mealtimes, cut down on snacks or have healthier ones, drink more water, and using a pedometer to encourage me to walk more.

My weight is a bit up and down at the moment. I seem to go through a pattern of losing a pound, staying the same the next week, putting on a pound and then losing 2lbs. I'm planning to be here on these threads for a long time yet.
