I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

I've just made an arrangement with a colleague to meet for a half an hour walk each lunchtime rather than meet to eat. Means that I can eat my packed lunch at my desk staving off the dreaded nibbles.

I'm just getting inspiration from a website called justbento.com, its got so many good lunch ideas which are high in protein ans slow release carbs but low in traditional carbs.

I'm still trying. I've been exercising and always under my calories but with bad food choices. Better choices this week, still feel sad though.

Am I to late to join?
If not to late, I am on weight watchers but very tempted to start 5:2.
Want to lose 3 stone for my sons first birthday in july.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 13/01/2014 17:15

Not too late at all! Welcome!!

HELP

My scales seemed a bit dodgy - 3 readings in a row all different (digital), so I bought a set of three quid 'traditional' scales. 9lb lighter on these Confused again did three weigh ins. all same weight.

As I was confused I got my toddler to stand on both anf she weighed the same on both.

Wtf?

WhenDoISleep · 13/01/2014 17:51

Weigh in today

Start weight: 13st 13lbs
Today: 13st 12lbs
No. Weeks: 1

Not a great week food wise, but I'm happy to see the scales moving down. Have re-started tracking food in the WW app as of yesterday. Last time I lost any significant weight (around 15 months ago) it really helped, so I am determined to keep tracking this time - even when I hit the inevitable plateau and stress point.

HugAndRoll · 13/01/2014 19:46

ken do you have any weights? If so, weigh them on both scales
and use the ones which are closer to the weight of the weights.

PuggyMum · 13/01/2014 19:47

I stayed the same this week.

May have something to do with pints of wine at the weekend.... Must try harder!

Well done to all those that have lost weight this week!

shutitweirdo · 13/01/2014 20:09

Just been looking at the success stories on the mfp website. Some have pictures which is good to see the big differences in the people. Definately a good motivator.

justonemorecake · 13/01/2014 21:28

Well done to everyone who lost weight this week!
Managed my second fast day today. I found it a bit harder than the last for some reason but I survived! It's very busy at work at the moment, which usually leads me to snacks and unhealthy convenient food. I'm trying not to fall back into that habit!

bobblypop · 13/01/2014 21:36

evening all.
terrible, terrible weekend from Fri evening to Sunday - wine, pizza, cheescake etc...Blush Sad
chickened out of weighing today.
Have been very good today though and been out for my run. back on track - will watch out for next weekend!

TalkinPeace · 13/01/2014 21:45

bobbly
log it onto MFP : every last bite and sip
as then its a permanent reminder of how you do not want to eat again

NoTeaForMe · 13/01/2014 22:38

Can I join you? I have downloaded my fitness app today and am starting that. I need to find some kind of exercise I enjoy too. Wondering about the gym but am unsure. I need to lose almost 2 stone I think. It's mainly my stomach really as it's baby weight we will ignore the fact that the baby is 8 months old and actually I haven't shifted this weight from her 3 year old sister!

Any top tips?!

Wearegoingtobedlehem · 13/01/2014 22:41

I'm in- I lack motivation Hmm but I'm sure with a friendly hard kick up the arse I will get there!! X

Applesnotcakes · 14/01/2014 08:11

Toppest tip is to use 'my fitness pal' app or website to log everything you eat. Really helps you see where your calories come from and helps you think about portion size. If you know what you're eating you are in a better place to decide what to cut out for effectiveness.

The 5:2 approach has also worked really well for lots of people. A couple of days a week on around 500 cals, a couple of days a less than your body needs, maybe 1300, a couple of say 1500 days and a relaxed day. Tons of info on the 5:2 threads. Including links to the calculators to work out what your numbers should be.

Good luck to both of you!

WoodBurnerBabe · 14/01/2014 09:47

TalkinPeace - how do I account for blood donation? It's my session tonight and I'm sure replacing a pint of blood will take some calories, and I will be eating the biscuits (although not ALL of them like last time!), but was idly musing about how many calories this might take up...

Racheyg · 14/01/2014 09:49

I have set myself to weigh in on a friday and allow myself 1 naughty day (well within reason) I weighed 14st 3lb last friday. So here goes my journey.

Similar to the my fitness pal, I track everything with weight watchers app. Like said in a previous post when you have to write everything down it is scary how my we consume.

I have started to plan out our meals weekly which not only helps with allocating my points for the day, its also helps with shopping and saving money.

heres to a new year and a new start, I am determined not to be overweight for my next baby.

WoodBurnerBabe · 14/01/2014 10:10

rachey I started at 14.2 3 weeks ago and have lost 8lbs so far - it really can be done! But as others have said, log everything, absolutely everything.

I used to use the WW app, I've found MFP to be better as it is social, and you can see how your friends are doing, much more support than from the WW one :-) but do find what works best for you :-)

Good luck!

NoTeaForMe · 14/01/2014 10:27

I'm logging everything on MFP, does anyone want to be my friend on there?! I need to change my username though as it's my actual name at the moment! I'm also going to look into the 5:2 diet. Just as a kickstarter I think.

WoodBurnerBabe · 14/01/2014 10:31

NoTea I am mysk_girl if you want to add me :-)

NoTeaForMe · 14/01/2014 10:40

Hmm, does anyone know how you change your username on MFP?!

BrokenButNotFinished · 14/01/2014 10:45

If memory serves, you may have to log in to actual website. You can't do it through an app.

BrokenButNotFinished · 14/01/2014 10:48

Yes - the website and go to settings. You can only change your username once though.

Racheyg · 14/01/2014 10:48

woodburner wow that is amazing, congratulations.
Thanks for the recommendation will check out my fitness pal. :)

NoTeaForMe · 14/01/2014 11:03

Right. I am HopingToShrink I really struggled to find one that wasn't taken. Never mind! Please add me if you want to! Thanks. Good luck all. I'm hungry!
