I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Talkinpeace - I need your help please! I have done a general low cal week this week to ease myself into being more mindful of what I am eating, but I want to start 5:2 this week.

I saw on this thread that you explained how to work out how many cals to have each day. I think based on your goal weight?

Please could you help me work out what I should be aiming for daily?

My tdee at current weight is 2118 and for my goal weight is 1856. (I'm 5'11"!)

Should I do 1856 on nfds and 500 on fds? What if I go over on a Saturday night? Is this ok?! Or should I do 2118 on nfds?

I think I have confused myself trying to work it out! Blush

I'm pondering a name change in honour of my favourite new dish - miso soup.

Just done an online order, managed to do Aldi shop earlier and avoided all sugary rubbish. Tomorrow we can all take a long walk via the park to the butchers to buy the weeks meat and then I have no excuses at all not to eat healthily. In between meals the kitchen is closed!

Evening meals are mainly casseroles made with lean meat, fresh vegetables and a moderate potion of carbs (portions weighed). Lunchtimes I'm going for Japanese bento box approach with miso soup. Mid morning when I get a real food craving I'm opting for a healthy small yoghurt.

I am finding the evenings very challenging. Just as well the baby is refusing to sleep so I end uo spending hours pacing the floor!

Ha ha ha spot the typo Grin

Milobelle
you need to listen to your body, but it is worth being aware of what your TDEE will be at your target weight so that you can start training your brain to be happy with that amount of food.
As a rule of thumb - and do not stress about the odd 100 ...

Monday = 500
Tuesday = 1856
Wednesday = 1856
Thursday = 500
Friday = 2118
Saturday = what ever you like
Sunday = 2118

that way you have a weekly deficit of around 3500 calories
so should steadily lose a bit over 1bl a week

also, calculate TDEE as sedentary and then any exercise is an extra bonus.
Good luck with it.
And do feel free to post on the 5:2 threads as there are loads of really helpful people there

MiloBelle · 12/01/2014 22:47

Talkinpeace - thank you! I appreciate your help. What you say makes sense, I know I shouldn't be too focused on my tdee all the time.

Another thing - if I am quite a bit below my calorie goal on any day, I'd that ok? Or would it bring too low actually hinder my weight loss?

I am reading the current 5:2 thread at the moment do will def join in once I catch up. Smile

Morning all Smile

Weighed in this morning and had lost 1lb. I was down by 2lbs on fri but out for dinner Saturday/Subday ment I did go over despite my best efforts to count everything Sad. I might change my weigh in day to a fri morning as I know then that if I do go over at the weekend, I have a few days to get back on track. Still a loss is a loss and I'm happy.

Taking dd swimming soon, can't leave her to do any proper swimming but ill keep moving as much as I can.

Hope your Chinese didn't affect your weight loss too much Ken Adams - mine always makes me gain 2 pound of water from retaining because of the extra salt

Feartheescalator · 13/01/2014 09:41

I had weigh in on Saturday morning. I lost 4lbs and felt amazing ..... until I proceeded to eat an insane amount of calories over the weekend. Feeling very depressed now

StripyPenguin · 13/01/2014 09:45

Fear don't feel depressed, just remind yourself that you can lose the weight and have a fresh start this morning.

Feartheescalator · 13/01/2014 10:12

Thank you, Penguin. I have had a very healthy late breakfast and will try hard to stay on track today

Start weight 13st 10,
Today's weight (week 1) 13st 8.

Nothing spectacular, but a loss and I have to remind myself that this is how it will be done, little by little! Have to confess that I hoped for a big loss on the first week, but I'll take what I've got!

Well done those who have lost - and if you haven't don't worry, we're in this for the long haul!

MiloBelle · 13/01/2014 10:32

I weighed in on Friday but didn't post.

TalkinPeace · 13/01/2014 11:36

Lots of losses which is great
but please PLEASE P L E A S E
remember that a lot of it in the weeks after Christmas will be water and undigested food
the rate will slow down to around 1lb a week average - but you may "plateau" for several weeks (the record on 5:2 was 13 weeks) and then start to move again
during those times, work on toning so that you get smaller if not lighter
but do not give up even if the scales do not move

WoodBurnerBabe · 13/01/2014 11:46

Thanks for the reminder, TalkinPeace - my previous attempts always fail when I don't keep up the rapid loss.

Going to dig out my shred dvd to get toning!

Today was a 'latest ever' record for eating my lunch, 11.40am! And I'm stuffed, although it was probably about half what I would have eaten before Christmas... If I can get to 1pm (official lunch) before eating it over the next few weeks, I will be happy :-) And thinner.

I had to find a belt for my jeans over the weekend. And have a spa day coming up, so will be looking forward to being slimmer for that :-)
