I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

stripy
carbs for breakfast are a killer for kicking off the appetite.

I do not have breakfast at all in the week (just tea)
but weekends I go for things like poached eggs as they fill me up for longer

StripyPenguin · 11/01/2014 21:14

I find it OK managing until lunchtime and then dinner time, I guess I was thinking of the oats being good for cholesterol and also being filling. It's very rushed in the mornings so cereal or toast is all I have time for. Not sure what I can change it to really?

HugAndRoll · 11/01/2014 21:44

I've eaten a shit load of shit today. About to log it all now. Bad day.

MiloBelle · 11/01/2014 21:51

Had an awful 2 days...well 24 hours really. I forgot to take any fruit to work yesterday. Had a healthy lunch, but then I stated later than expected at school as had so much to get sorted. Every time I walked through the staffroom I picked up a biscuit Sad

Then because I had "ruined" everything with the biscuits, I bought a flapjack at the supermarket and are that secretly in the car, before going home to cook dinner (healthy stir fry).

Then while my husband went fir a run I ate a big bag of popcorn and too many chocolates left over from Christmas. It's like I literally can't stop because I have messed it up. Sad Complete binge.

Today more of the same...

I stopped logging on mfp after lunch yesterday, but I have just kind of tried to log it now.

Why do I do this to myself?!?!

BehindLockNumberNine · 11/01/2014 22:09

Right, second weigh in today and instead of a gain I am pleased as punch to report a 4lb (2kg) loss Grin
Have been very good this week, walking the dog for an hour a day, really watching what I ate and going to bed some nights with still 300 odd calories left over to eat Smile

Just hope I can keep it up....

MyNameIsKenAdams · 12/01/2014 08:45

Did well

MyNameIsKenAdams · 12/01/2014 08:46

Oops

MyNameIsKenAdams · 12/01/2014 08:48

Did well all week - sensible eating and exercise, the out to a comedy club last night so had wine and wedges.

I know I havent lost much if at all, but I need to remember I am aiming for 1lb off, not masses.

Eeek am nervous about ny weigh in.

lifesgreatquestions · 12/01/2014 10:22

I bought scales yesterday that calculate BMI, body fat and hydration as well as weight. Weird but somewhat handy! I was pleased to discover that I didn't, as I'd thought, put weight on over Christmas, it is just that my body shape shifted, and probably a bit of an exchange of muscle for fat - not great but not as bad as it could have been.

I'm also playing around with some cognitive tricks like mourning the loss of lovely food and seeing temporary hunger (which I haven't felt for two years) as a sign of development in the right direction. I am allowing binges on the lowest calorie stuff like that weight watchers soup. This is only day 2 for me but I've been to the shops and bought the food, made some soup and have frozen some ready for work lunches and feel ready for the week ahead.

Do any of you weigh daily? I was wondering if that was motivating or depressing. I might give it a try this week. I know the number won't shift but the act of weighing might keep me focused? Personally I'd prefer a monthly weigh in where you could really expect a shift in numbers though, argh!

Applesnotcakes · 12/01/2014 11:03

milobel and hugandroll, these days happen. If eating well was easy for us we would have been doing it already. So don't beat yourselves up, there's bound to be bad days, we'll all have them. The trick is not giving up, seeing it as a blip, not as license to forget the whole thing. Hope you both have a good day today. Thanks

StripyPenguin · 12/01/2014 11:22

It's my weigh in tomorrow but the scale are now showing a 6lb gain.
Looking at my calorie intake since i started. MFP lets me have 1790 a day.
but I've only stuck to it for 8 days in the last 15, I hadn't realised I'd blown it so many times :(

HugAndRoll · 12/01/2014 12:21

I've gained the lb I lost. My food choices haven't been amazing but I've not gone over my calories and have been exercising a lot. Next week is another week and I will keep going at this. Feel very disheartened though.

roosterroo · 12/01/2014 13:12

Great losses here. I have proudly perfected poached egg in a mug in the micrwave, I have very little time in a morning and have 2 feed me and ds2 before leaving at 7.10am.

Off to make the watercress soup for Tuesday's fast day.

New week tomorrow, so lovely blank mpf to fill up people. (I also managed to change mfp name to roosterroo2014) if anyone wants to add me Smile

justonemorecake · 12/01/2014 15:05

Well done to every one! Don't be disheartened if you save just gained a pound. That is a very small amount and can soon be lost again.

Today is my treat day, as I am now doing 5:2 am eating under my TDEE 4 days of the week. So I'm currently cooking a big roast dinner! Can't wait. I'm still going to try and resist having too many roast potatoes and too much stuffing.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend. I'm looking forward to weigh in day tomorrow!

HugAndRoll · 12/01/2014 17:38

It's my official weigh day tomorrow so I haven't recorded the gain, yet.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 12/01/2014 17:46

I caved too and hopped onto the scales tonight. Am a lb less than last monday but we are having chinese tonight so am just hoping that I will be same as tonight in the morning.
Anyones else not counting oz? Should I be?

MyNameIsKenAdams · 12/01/2014 17:47

Poached egg in a mug in tge microwave? Tell me more roo

TalkinPeace · 12/01/2014 17:54

strippenguin
It's very rushed in the mornings
then don't eat
have a big mug of tea, a glass of water and pootle on through till lunch

weekday morning I am fixing packed lunches, cleaning, organising and getting the kids out to school
not eating makes it easier

roosterroo · 12/01/2014 18:02

I may have read it somewhere here on mn!

Break egg into mug

Pierce yolk with sharp knife

Pop some cling film over mug and pierce

Then into microwave i do 40 secs check and then maybe another 10-20 and voila poched egg no sticking or mess.

This may have transformed my egg eating habits

MyNameIsKenAdams · 12/01/2014 18:09

Wow will definetly have a go at that - any water in tge mug?

BigWellyLittleWelly · 12/01/2014 18:12

I have a question.

I was urged to make chicken stock last time I had a roast, I duly boiled the bones and added everything Delia or Hugh or someone said to add.

Then I portioned it up into 500ml bags ans froze it. Now its frozen I can see just how much fat is in it. What to do ans how should I use it anyway? :-D

roosterroo · 12/01/2014 18:27

Nope no water or butter, you see I love poached egg and hate the messy pan, its a winnerWink

WoodBurnerBabe · 12/01/2014 18:32

bigwelly if you defrost it, and let it stand for a while, the fat will float to the top and form a scum. I then lift it off with kitchen towel.

Makes lovely homemade soup, or risotto.

darwiniandreams · 12/01/2014 18:37

First day back at work tomorrow and stressed out so all I want to do is eat. I have only got 250 cals left and if I go into the kitchen without supervision I know I will polish off all the goodies in one sitting. Waiting for dd patiently to go for me Blush.

I will do this!!!!

HugAndRoll · 12/01/2014 21:11

Written off today, I lost all motivation. I've since planned next week and am doing an online shop, I can do this!
