I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

I know I'm late joining (think I might've signed in right at the beginning of the the thread,) but can I tag along anyway?

I've got shed loads to lose - daren't even get on the scales tbh.

I wake up each morning thinking 'today's the day,' but I never stick to it. Anyway, I am starting tomorrow and would like to join this thread for the support.

Hope you're all doing a lot better than I've been doing!

Cecy
You are not "sabotaging" - you are merely reacting to stress in the way you have accustomed yourself to.
Over the coming months you need to find another coping strategy than food.
You will.

Misfitless
start right now. Choose not to snack after supper tonight - Close the kitchen between meals

HugAndRoll · 10/01/2014 18:21

Today's shred wasn't too bad. My quads still hurt but I'm in that "nice pain" phase. It will be hard getting up Saturday and Sunday to do it but it's a good feeling knowing it's the first thing I've done (after drinking a glass of water) and I'm done for the day other than walking.

slalomsuki · 10/01/2014 19:37

5.3lbs so far from the 1st January here. Digital scales are a bit too accurate!

Have had a bit of a blow out this afternoon as I spent this afternoon freezing on a sports pitch for a school rugby match and have eaten some stodgy food to make me feel warm. Just gone over the MFP target by 200 calls and that's that for the day so not so bad. The best bit is I would have normal turned to chocolate and biscuits but today I had breakfast cereal as the snack food so a lot less calories.

From Monday it's walk to work for the week so some additional weight may shift as its 30 mins each way..

MerylStrop · 10/01/2014 21:07

Bit of an off day today. Didn't do any exercise, chained to the laptop working. Ate not excessively but not well. Bit of chocolate (supposed to be off sugar). Bit of cheese.

On the bright side 4lbs down at end of week one, and it hasn't been at all painful apart from having to constantly remind DH that no I don't want pasta and that fast days mean not really eating. He's finding it a bit disconcerting.

Back on the wagon tomorrow, yoga in the morning which will make fasting easier.

Feeling a bit generally fed up. Despite yoga related NSVs.

StripyPenguin · 11/01/2014 06:18

Sorry I've not been taking part in the thread, I've been very busy at work.
I'm close to giving up on this to be honest, I have religiously stuck to the calorie limits on MFP all except two days since December 26th.
I now weigh 5 pounds more than when I started so I can't see the point of being hungry most of the time if all that is going to happen is that I gain weight.

WoodBurnerBabe · 11/01/2014 06:41

Works Christmas do last night. I ate starter (smoked salmon), main course (steak & chips) but I was too full for the dessert. Plus I was driving so stuck to water all night. Fingers crossed I haven't done to much damage...

Am still absolutely stuffed now, won't need any breakfast I don't think!

StripyPenguin · 11/01/2014 07:56

I don't want to give this up so I've been looking at what I've been eating on MFP. It looks like I am light on protein (having never got to the daily limits on MFP) but heavy on carbs - usually I am at or just over the limit.
I'm wondering if eating more protein and less carbs will help; I tend to have soup for lunch and dinner and have it with two slices of bread; maybe replacing the bread with protein is the way to go?

WoodBurnerBabe · 11/01/2014 08:35

Definitely reduce the carbs - I find they make me crave more carbs? My ultimate temptation is tiger bread...

How about scrambled eggs for breakfast, no toast - or lean grilled fish with lots and lots of veg for lunch? We are having cauliflower pizza base for tea tonight, will report on how that goes as it's a low cal low carb version of pizza...

slimsoon · 11/01/2014 09:03

How often do you weigh yourselves ?

I am very discouraged by daily fluctucations .
Should it only be weekly ?

WoodBurnerBabe · 11/01/2014 09:26

I do try and stick to weekly, with the occasional mid week check. But always same time of day (mornings, after wee, before shower, no clothes). I don't seem to fluctuate too badly that way...

DearPrudence · 11/01/2014 09:32

I weigh most days but I only count the weekly weigh-in as the 'official' one. That way, if I've gone up 1lb mid-week I don't get discouraged as I know there's still time to right it.

HugAndRoll · 11/01/2014 10:30

I had a lie in today which means I have to shred tonight. Bit of a pain really but I am exhausted all the time so couldn't say no to extra sleep.

I'm still shattered though. What's the bet that if I had got up and done the shred I would feel better than I do now?!

slalomsuki · 11/01/2014 11:56

I weigh myself weekly but sometimes can't help stepping on the scales mid point just for a sneaky check..

Definitely lost some bloating around my stomach as have had to pull in my jeans belt a notch today for last weekend. I only get to wear jeans at the weekend due to work so it was a bit of a surprise.

Congratulations and well done everyone who is still at it..

justonemorecake · 11/01/2014 12:21

Well done to everyone who has lost. I felt quite happy this morning. I tried on the dress I wore to my Christmas do. When I wore it then it was too tight and really didn't look that good. This morning it fit really well. It is a size 18 though, so not that much if an achievement!

stripy the last time I used mfp, I stayed within my calorie allowance but most of my calories went on carbs and I hardly lost any weight. I gave up. This time I'm trying to reduce the amount of carbs I eat and the weight is coming off much quicker, even though I am eating roughly the same number of calories.

lifesgreatquestions · 11/01/2014 12:24

So I'm 10 days behind, only starting today. Yesterday I put on my "fat" trousers and they were tight so I'm not doing myself any favours by putting this off. I also developed a terrible sweat rash this week and I think the excess sweating is due to the extra weight - yuck, yuck, yuck.

I've got a meal plan worked out that I know I'll enjoy as I need to pig out from time to time and this allows for that! I've already started it today and am heading off to the shops with my list. I'm going to allow myself free reign on meals out when they naturally come up just so I don't get to feeling this is punitive. And I'm not naturally into sweets but really over did it over the holidays so I'm weaning myself back off sweets altogether. I'm going to return to eating at set meal times which for me means stopping eating by 6 pm, which is doable for me, but I live with a late eater. He can shovel in the biscuits and it not effect his weight so I'll keep fruit on standby for evenings until I get my resolve back.

I was doing a bit of googling and read that caffeine is bad... has anyone else heard this or was I just reading a cruel site? I only have a couple/three ish cups of caffeine a day and would hate to lose this!

lifesgreatquestions · 11/01/2014 12:25

I mean I read that caffeine is bad for dieting... has anyone else heard this?

WoodBurnerBabe · 11/01/2014 12:25

It's a great achievement - Christmas was only 3 weeks ago and you are already obviously slimmer than you were then :-) try it on again next Christmas and I bet it will be swimming on you :-)

MerylStrop · 11/01/2014 12:52

Lifesgreat Some diets definitely say cut caffeine but others view it as an appetite suppressant....I think none of these things are necessarily clear cut. I am on decaff coffee (never drink tea only green or herbal) as I get rosacea and caffeine aggravates it.

Woodburner Really want to know how the caulk crust goes as whole family love pizza and don't want to feel deprived....will you post pics/recipe if success?

Worked into the night last night and couldn't get up in time for yoga, also don't feel like fasting and have more work to do.Work and healthy living seem to be contradictory forces for me! This is a bit of a penny dropping moment. Need to figure out a way where I can maintain concentration and enthusiasm for both simultaneously.......

StripyPenguin · 11/01/2014 13:16

Thanks...I'll cut down on the bread and see how that goes. I'm taking my DM out for her birthday meal tonight though so I'm having a night off - not what I need but I've looked online at the menu and it doesn't look promising. I can do it in my calorie allowance if I can resist the dessert menu - we will see!

Applesnotcakes · 11/01/2014 13:22

Not been a great week. Not terrible, but not great. Struggled to resist biscuits and definitely think I've had too many carbs and agree they just make you want more.
So tried a run this morning, more of shuffle really, week 4 of c25k. V slowly! Got to week 7 last summer and I weirdly enjoyed it but find it hard in winter when it's too dark for the park before work. But I think I'll try and do it at the weekends. Such a nice day here today it's a shame not to get outside. Hoping it will help Mondays weigh in, looking like a small gain at the moment so I need a disciplined weekend.

Happy weekend everyone.

WoodBurnerBabe · 11/01/2014 13:25

Sadly no photos as we ate it too quick, but it was lovely and the kids liked it too! There are loads of recipes on the net, this is mine and kind of an amalgamation of a few

1 head cauliflower, blitz into rice sized particles. Gently fry for 10min in 2tblsp olive oil. Then combine in a bowl with 2 eggs and 75g grated low fat chedder. It's quite sloppy at this point, be warned! Then divide into two and spread very thinly on baking parchment on trays. Bake for 20min at 150deg until golden brown on top. Then add passata, toppings of your choice and a small amount more cheese. Back into over until cheese on top golden brown. Half of the lot, with no additional toppings is 490 cals and I was stuffed.

slimsoon · 11/01/2014 17:01

My kind husband bought me a surprise 4 pack of Lindt chilli chocolate and a huge kenwood cake mixer that was on sale ??? when he was out today .... clearly not noticed my dieting at all .Bless.
I made a lovely cake for him and the kids but didn't eat any .
Actually I'm not a cake eater normally
Its crisps , bread ,cheese and wine that are my vices.

TalkinPeace · 11/01/2014 17:07

stripypenguin
I take it MFP has allocated you 1200 calories - it does that to everybody.
Depressing being hungry every day isn't it .... that's why I do 5:2

BUT
yes, you need to cut your carbs right down
none at breakfast, as few as you can at lunch and then see if you can do low carb a couple of days a week for supper
higher protein foods make you fuller for longer
huge bowls of vegetable stir fry with prawns or chicken are a classic trick

StripyPenguin · 11/01/2014 17:10

It's given me 1790 for some reason, probably because I am very fat.
I'm starting tomorrow (meal out tonight) on low carbs.
At the moment a typical day is porridge (weighed) with skimmed milk for breakfast, soup for lunch plus some grapes and watercress (I was having 2 slices of plain bread as well but I am dropping that) and then dinner was another soup with 2 slices of bread and some fruit.
