I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Hello all, and welcome to the newcomers.

Good to see all the motivation on here - its inevitable different ones of us will be doing better or worse at different times but the point is we're all trying, and have each other to congratulate or commiserate.

I'm not feeling too positive about this week - really struggling with evenings. I usually don't have breakfast and take soup or home made veg curry to work and have it with a few ryvitas, and snack on a couple of satsumas or low fat crisps if i'm feeling indulgent, and then a good dinner when I get home.

If i leave it there all would be well. But evenings usually also involve wine - possibly x2, low fat yoghurt for something sweet post dinner, Lindt chill choc with decaff black coffee around 9pm because its bloody delicious, and maybe even a biscuit.

often 400 calories or more of unnecessary snacking.

I can and do sometimes manage without the wine (well done me Grin) but I find the rest really hard to stop. I think i'll try the aforementioned Hartley jelly for a yoghurt substitute but i suppose i just have to cut out the rest. Willpower is whats needed but it seems harder post Christmas to find it!

darwiniandreams · 09/01/2014 14:21

I find evenings difficult too. Dd only gets home at 8pm most nights so find myself eating out of boredom. During the day seems to fly by and when I do pick I'm not necessarily hungry Blush. I have found lots of useful tips on here but none that will prevent my downfall so I may just need to have my jaw wired shut at night Grin.

slimsoon · 09/01/2014 14:24

Applesnotcakes
I started out diluting ( quite cheap ) "evening "wine with soda before going cold turkey .
Party tomorrow so will probably lapse.
If I drink I tend to reach for crisps on the night and then have a hangover hell eating next day .

WoodBurnerBabe · 09/01/2014 14:56

Hi everyone, things ticking along here nicely. I must be quite unique in that I don't seem to have a problem with evening snacking - but snacking before lunch and waiting to eat my lunch until 12.30 is a real, real problem. I could easily eat my days calories before lunch and am really having to restraint myself from doing so. Have been experimenting with different types of breakfast and so far, porridge seems to be the best at filling me up properly and waiting longest for lunch.

Am loving getting back into doing some proper exercise again though, that feels really good ;-)

EspressoMartiniToGo · 09/01/2014 15:37

Hi hope I'm not too late to join? I'd love to be 52lb lighter by this time next year.
I've started using mfp and I go to Zumba and try to do the shred a couple of times a week too. The fat seems to be clinging to my belly like a horrid wobble beast and I've gone up another dress size over the last year. Sick of it.

I live abroad so ww or sw isn't an option so I really need a bit of support as I have 6 stones to lose in total. Eek.
Good luck everybody!

slalomsuki · 09/01/2014 15:49

Woodburner I am the same as you in that its from 1030 to 3pm that I have the snacking urges at work but in the evening I
It's not a problem. I have tried various breakfasts combinations and porridge doesn't work for me but slices of ham from breakfast does.. Am going to try an egg or eggs to see if that helps.

The problem I have at work is that there is nowhere to buy lunch or eat apart from sandwiches that are not really appetising and we don't have a fridge so anything I take in with me has to be able to sit on my desk or cupboard for the morning. Traditionally I have had a space in my draw for chocolate but that has gone now so am looking to find lit what gets me through the day without the urge to snack. Am going to try the sugar free jelly that was recommended up thread.

TalkinPeace · 09/01/2014 16:09

anybody thinking of joining the 5:2 crew - there is a shiny and short new thread so feel free to pile in

justonemorecake · 09/01/2014 19:25

My snacking urge is a problem at all times of the day! The main time though is when I stop at a shop on the way home from work. I always end buying so much rubbish - think big bag of crisps, two chocolate bars, Dr Pepper. And then eat it all in one sitting! I haven't done that in a few weeks though so hopefully I'm breaking that habit.

I feel like I've done a lot of stupid, thoughtless eating in the past year or so. Things like stopping at the shop for breakfast and buying two Danish pastries and a bag if cookies, and eating them all in one go! And I'd keep eating even though I was feeling full. Anyway, times have changed. I'm not going to go back to those silly habits.

I'm feeling the most motivated I have done in a long time so I'm hoping this time I stick to it and don't revert to old ways.

bobblypop · 09/01/2014 19:25

evening all.
Bad day yesterday, way over my calories. Sad
doing better today and have been for a run Grin
not sure how tomorrow will go as may well have a glass or 2 of wine in evening...but will try to be sensible!

Applesnotcakes · 09/01/2014 19:52

Well done, justonemorecake. Breaking habits is tough but it will be so worth it. You barely even notice that kind of eating at the time whereas when you start you lose weight you'll feel better all the time. Talking to myself here as much as you Grin

Applesnotcakes · 09/01/2014 19:58

And thanks for the thoughts re snacking, guys, I think darwiniandreams had the right idea! At least tonight I have not had wine and am past the danger zone now which is when I first get in from work.

darwiniandreams · 09/01/2014 20:11

justonemore I can sympathise with the junk food with the crisps and chocolate. My food diarys on mfp consistantly have the same. I would save so many calories if I could just lay off them. I will say I have had crisps today but bought a small bar of chocolate and not touched it or even wanted it. If I can do the same tomorrow I will be soo pleased.

Applesnotcakes I've not been too bad tonight because I have filled up on pasta and potato. I'm still getting used to what I can and cannot eat and at what times.........it's a work in progress. Smile

TalkinPeace · 09/01/2014 20:12

Eating mindfully
Eat what you like, but be honest with yourself about it.
Look at every bite, every crisp, every peanut before you put it in your mouth.
Never ever eat with the packet next to you so the hand goes in and up to your mouth without awareness.

And if you do have a splurge day
put every last bite onto MFP so that you know what you ate and the next time you want to, go and look at what happened last time and see if you really want to.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/01/2014 20:19

Well I'm 8 days into it and have lost 4.5 pounds ! So I'm very happy. I've done a couple of fasts and have some new rules I'm following:

Eating only between 12 and 8. Thus creating natural 12 hour fasts without cutting calories on normal days.

Eat as close to TDEE as possible - have tended to
Overeat massively on one day in the week and not sure it's done me much good.

It's been wonderful to read this thread and see how well
People are doing

MyNameIsKenAdams · 09/01/2014 20:37

The lack of bloat is.so so encouraging. I feel slimmer,.even though it is mainly bloating, so that in turn is encouraging me to eat healthier.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 09/01/2014 20:38

And well done Laurie!

MyNameIsKenAdams · 09/01/2014 20:41

I got my geek head on and did up a big excel spreadsheet to track my weight loss against goal. I added in all the formulas, and put a column on the end for Treats. At the point where Im on target to lose a stone, Ive written foodie treats - Nandos @ 1 & 3 stone, Dominos @ 2st.

Just thinking of non-foodie treats for the half stone. So far Ive got "proper haircut" (usually just do the MN cut)

I finished it and just gazed moonily at it Grin

HugAndRoll · 09/01/2014 20:46

Can I just say I'm in so much pain! Day 2 of the shred wax done this morning and I went into town as well as the school run so 2.5 hrs or so of waking too. Tomorrow's shred will be interesting Grin.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/01/2014 20:48

Ooh, loving the spreadsheet idea!

How about pedicure/facials? Big coffee table books you'd never buy normally?

I'm also about to start Fast Exercise - 1 minute, 3 times a week. To go with my Fast Diet success.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 09/01/2014 20:51

Pedicure is a marvelous idea - my feet are wrecked from eight years working stood up on them (sedentry job now thank god)

CecyHall · 09/01/2014 21:19

Having a shocking week diet wise. I keep not fancying anything and then ending up with junk food as I just don't know what I want. I'm sick of food, I'm sick of thinking about it. It's times like this when I can quite understand why slimfast/lighter life sounds good to people.

I'm exhausted (for other reasons, not just this) but I can't keep dicking around and eating crap. Something goes wrong and I just hit self sabotage.

Sorry, i just needed to get it off my chest. My brain is just churning things around and it's not helping.

BigWellyLittleWelly · 09/01/2014 22:00

Why do I get hot flushes?

Yesterday was an anniversary of a moderately unpleasant event so I was sad, and ate biscuits and a Chinese. Bloody tasty I must confess.

Today I didn't eat well as I forgot to buy in lunch and baby was sleeping in the cot so didn't want to wake her. So snacked on corn flakes.

DearPrudence · 09/01/2014 22:59

Just popping in. I've been lurking and following progress. Everybody has bad days - I guess it's more important to keep going than to be perfect every day.

I've not following any particular plan but have cut back alcohol to almost zero, and tried to eat only when I'm hungry and having smaller portions.

Results so far: -2.5 lbs in 1 week

Sunshineandshowers123 · 10/01/2014 12:25

Can I join? You're all doing so well.

I started on Jan 1st using mfp and 30 day shred. Have a lot of weight to lose, 7st 4lbs so 52lbs will be about half way. I've lost 4lb already.

My Dp is doing it too. Normally I'm really lazy, hate exercise and now I'm the one encouraging my Dp to come for a walk or to do the shred. I'm actually strangely liking exercising.

Start weight 17st 11lbs
Goal weight 10st 7lbs
Current weight 17st 7lbs

MyNameIsKenAdams · 10/01/2014 14:12

Welcome Sunshine!

I need some help - seen a gret dress on sale, for a weddig I will be attending early May. If I stay on target I will be 11.8. I have no clue wether to buy a smaller size and if so, what size? Im 5'2, with a larger bottom half than top, though the dress is like a tshirt top with a sticky out skirt....
