I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Ive only logged lunch so far today (well brunch), and my cholesterol is very vey high - two rashers of smoked bacon and three eggs scrambled - is it the eggs or the bacon?

TalkinPeace · 08/01/2014 17:59

KenAdams
Bacon.
Drop the bacon on week days
and cut the eggs down to two medium - season with pepper to make it feel like more

that is where you start to get to the bottom of portion sizes : your weekday breakfast is the same size as my blowout weekend brunch

MyNameIsKenAdams · 08/01/2014 18:05

Ahh I work shifts so today is my weekebd day Grin

Also, thats all ive eaten so far.

TalkinPeace · 08/01/2014 18:11

Aha,
I'd still say reduce the portions as getting used to being "full" after a smaller meal is the real secret.

back when I was 'padded' Sunday brunch was 3 eggs Benedict muffins
nowadays I struggle to eat one

omelette - normal one, two egg is more than enough
spanish style, 3 small eggs but that is usually my main meal of the day

StripyPenguin · 08/01/2014 18:22

Broken Watercress salad with bamboo shoots and water chestnuts for me tomorrow then - thanks for that info :)

I am gutted that the scales are showing a 2lb increase for some stupid reason, I ate the wrong thing last night so that must have done it - I had some home made casserole with dumplings and then some xmas cake :(

Fool....me that is.

^I'm on several threads at once, and try not to duplicate
but this needs repeating^ ....... (C&P from the 5 stone thread)

Two pounds as a percentage is trivial.
Its one of the great myths of the weight loss industry that you will lose weight steadily and then maintain.

I "maintain" - that means that my weight fluctuates by up to 3lb either way during the week and I weigh myself once a week.
"Maintain" does not mean stay the same.

Also, unless you weigh yourself at the same time relative to bowel movements and wees and sleep your weight WILL change by anything up to 5lb - without the fat cells increasing in number.

Also, try to think about Non Scale Victories

  • doing up a skirt that was too tight
  • running up the stairs not walking
  • a compliment from a stranger
because weight and size and leanness and health are linked but not very tightly.

Hang on in there. You'll succeed.

StripyPenguin · 08/01/2014 18:42

TalkinPeace thanks. I have a long way to go before I get any compliments on my weight, I doubt anybody will notice - I had a new hair style and glasses 3 months ago and nobody has yet commented on them at all!

I'll stick to Monday weigh in and see what happens then. I'm not giving up now I've started, for once I am feeling motivated.

OohMrDarcy · 08/01/2014 19:14

weighed in yesterday (been busy, no posting time)

stayed the same, but it was also DS birthday.... I may have accidentally joined him in a birthday giant ice cream Confused

Either way am going to try to be very good this week and hopefully get 2lb?!

start 231lb
week 1 231lb
total loss 0 Sad

Anyone else planning a fast day tomorrow?

Im finding it ok as I am at work but we have fixed breaks so either eat at 10am or hang fire till 12- any tips on this?

I am still resisting the cheesecake made by ds1 in this weeks food tech, I worked out the calories the whole thing has over 2000, last year I would have polished off at least 2 pieces by now!

justonemorecake · 08/01/2014 20:25

I managed my first fast day today. I feel quite proud of myself. Roosterroo I waited until 12.30 to eat, which worked well for me because then there didn't seem to long a wait until my next meal in the evening.

Does anyone know if there are set number of days you should leave between fasts? Would Friday be too early to have a fast day? Otherwise it will probably have to be Monday.

roosterroo · 08/01/2014 20:33

I think it's in my mind that I must eat breakfast, my mum still insists on it and is horrified that you might miss it.

I will try to wait till lunch.

Curioustiger · 08/01/2014 21:15

I try and leave a day between fasts - ideally I do Mondays and Wednesdays which are both working days for me. I have done consecutive days, it's not much fun but it can be done! In the 5:2 book they say you can do whichever ones you like but that most people do Monday and Thursday.

TalkinPeace · 08/01/2014 21:49

roosteroo
the whole "breakfast" thing has two sources

  • agricultural labourers who stuffed their faces before putting in a 12 hour day before eating supper
  • the nice Mr Kellog trying to sell cereal ... the more you read about him the less you'll want to eat breakfast ;-)

DD is 15 and has given up breakfast - as I did
but I insist that she has either a glass of fruit juice, a mug of tea or a glass of milk every morning
so that she starts the day properly hydrated
I serve her a good dinner that is 2/3 of the calories she needs so I know she's not actually hungry in the morning

slalomsuki · 08/01/2014 21:55

Had a bit of a blip today due to comfort eating/sugar craving at work as a result of a long day and stress. Any idea of low calorie quick fixes for sugar hits that can be kept out of a fridge. I am not a big fan of haribos or sweets like that.

BigWellyLittleWelly · 08/01/2014 22:13

Rubbish day today.

_ < drawing a line under it

Curioustiger · 08/01/2014 22:38

Slalom I have mentioned them before but hartleys sugar free jellies at 10cals a pot? Such lurid colours cannot be nutritious but they are filling!

slimsoon · 09/01/2014 06:31

would love to meet anyone in Doha starting similar weight loss journey.

OohMrDarcy · 09/01/2014 07:12

well I rode to work today (4 miles - very windy) so feeling this is a good start to my day... may go swimming at lunchtime as well - mostly as this seems to prevent me eating something terrible for lunch as I don't have time after!

Big welly - why do you think you had a bad day?

manechanger · 09/01/2014 07:27

hello. I have 4 stone to lose too. I've been pretty consistent since first baby and she turns 11 this feb!!! wouldn't mind some support. Haven't really dieted much over the last few years though lost a stone between dc3 and dc4 and now back to my largest. I cannot read 29 pages but am wondering how 5.2 works and am going to research it.

I want something that will change my habits (large portions, lots of cake etc) rather than a quick fix. Lost the stone before with slimming world and am also thinking about that though I find it hard to get out in the evenings at the moment - looking at two types of exercise, already walk loads but also want to do pilates and deep water aerobics.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 09/01/2014 09:14

Hello!

How is everyone doing? I had another peek on the scales this morning and down by another 1/2 lb so that's 1 1/2lbs since Monday. I'm not going to look again till after the weekend as I want to be properly happy when I see loss Grin

Only thing is im out on Saturday night for friends birthday which will involve dinner and drinks. Usually I'd drink vodka and fresh orange so I'm not sure. I like diet lemonade and vodka but not many places usually have diet.

I noticed last night that I really struggled to eat my dinner. Wasn't even a huge amount! Rice and I'd roasted peppers, aubergine and quorn pieces. Got about 3/4 way through and decided I was full Shock! First for everything Smile

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 09/01/2014 11:42

I'm notice my portions have drastically shrunk too! Obv needed to to keep me in my cals but I'm feeling just as full as I'd have with eating much bigger.

I'm all planned for my dinner and still have 400ish left. Might use on a small bit of chocolate. I have such a sweet tooth and really need a bit every day Grin

MerylStrop · 09/01/2014 12:12

Another fast day.

Went to yoga and did my first shoulder stand for more than 10 years.

Celebrating with a robots chai (whilst fantasising about what to have for dinner tomorrow)

MerylStrop · 09/01/2014 12:12

That would be rooibos.

MerylStrop · 09/01/2014 12:13

Has anyone ever made a cauliflower pizza crust?

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 09/01/2014 12:18

Not heard of it Meryl. I've heard of grating cauliflower and using as 'rice'
