I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Good to hear of more losses!!!

I've got a wii funny enough so maybe will dig it out again and put it to use. I started a new job yesterday which has me moving around more than what I've been used to for the past 6 months!!! It's also ment that I didn't have time in the day to feel hungry as I was kept busy so win win!

My mum makes a lovely chicken and mozzarella dish. She pan fries it to cook chicken and melt the cheese then simmers it in a sauce of stock, white wine, tarragon and cream. It's truly amazing!!!

Turkey steaks tend to be lower in cals and honestly not much different taste wise from chicken.

HugAndRoll · 07/01/2014 20:44

That's good, may give it a go.

It's that time of the month and I've gorged on chocolate again. I think I'm going to have to ban myself from chocolate as I can't just have a little whereas I can with other junk food (not that I should have any but you know what I mean). Need yo pull this back.

justonemorecake · 07/01/2014 20:58

Seems there are a few of us with 13 mo dc. I have put in 4 stone since I fell pregnant with dd just under two years ago, which is horrendous!

I felt quite pleased with myself today. Someone brought all their Christmas goodies - chocolates, biscuits, cakes - and left them in the staffroom, where I was sat all morning. And I didn't help myself to any of it! Normally I would have kept picking at it.

I've decided to start 5:2. I'm going to have my first fast day tomorrow and see how I manage. I'm planning on a banana, tangerine and cup a soup for lunch and then a big bowl of veggie soup for tea. Plus lots of hot drinks!

WoodBurnerBabe · 07/01/2014 21:01

We're having Turkey Dansak tomorrow instead of beef, calories are definitely lower. Had a really, really lovely trout with beetroot relish and new potatoes yesterday, was only 378 calories and was really full afterwards :-) Other good low cal meals we've had so far have been pea and ham soup (homemade) and pasta bake (because I only ate the recommended 1/4 of the bake rather than the usual 1/2 - other 1/4 is my lunch tomorrow...)

WoodBurnerBabe · 07/01/2014 21:03

13 months is a great age :-) The 6yo and the 3yo are pretty scrummy as well, but they generate quite a lot of leftovers, which are my downfall!

BigWellyLittleWelly · 07/01/2014 21:18

woodburnerbabe tell me more about having three, I'm beginning to reach the conclusion that I'm not done having children! (DD1 is 3 and DD2 is 7m)

I have however stayed away from the extra Aldi biscuits, I have decided that January is the month for portion control, increasing my water intake and getting into this new way of eating. February will be th month of cutting down my sugar intake and March/April will be when I start more exercise.

This was considered carefully at 4am this morning after another screaming wake up from baby dd, I can't make all these changes at the same time, I am running on empty most of the day and exhausted - I start back at work next week as well. Also this way I can maximise different factors in weight loss keeping the pounds coming off slowly but surely.

BrokenButNotFinished · 07/01/2014 21:26

Ok - first day of fasting coming to an end... 613 calories, but I haven't offset any exercise. I was under yesterday - and I went without food for the requisite 16 hours. It's been ok. I haven't had any carbs other than fruit or veg and have eaten a vast quantity of the latter.

I remembered to go back to mfp and change the settings to 'maintain' so it's now suggesting an intake closer to my TDEE.

Things I didn't know this morning:
Breadsticks have 30 calories
A can of bamboo shoots has under 25
Ditto water chestnuts

I have plantar fasciitis too - can't remember who said above that they had this. That and tearing a tendon in my shoulder put paid to British Military Fitness for me for a few months - and thereby accounted for the last stone or so...

Feartheescalator · 07/01/2014 21:32

I am watching The Taste on C4. Big mistake. The food looks amazing and I am starving

MyNameIsKenAdams · 07/01/2014 21:43

Angry someone on my Pinterest feed keeps pinning pictures of delicious looking cakes

WoodBurnerBabe · 07/01/2014 21:48

BigWelly having three is great :-) hectic, and I work 4 days a week as well, but we have a lot of fun! Baby has just started sleeping a bit better and finally weaned off boob which is a relief, trying to work nearly full time while doing 3 overnight feeds (greedy monkey baby!) killed me. Tiredness is a massive factor when I am struggling with weight / eating / exercise etc..

loopybear · 07/01/2014 21:53

Day two of fasting done. Today was easier than yesterday. I've always eaten breakfast so do 16 hours the last time I can eat in 15.00. I was 50 cals under and starving at 6.00 so had a small natural low fat yoghurt. I enjoyed my poached eggs for breakfast which set me up for the day did miss the toast though. Have planned food for week so hopefully will stay on track. Thanks for the lovely ideas for alternatives

WoodBurnerBabe · 07/01/2014 22:25

And

WoodBurnerBabe · 07/01/2014 22:26

Ah, all these people fasting. I must try to get over the psychological crap that's telling me I can't do it.

TalkinPeace · 07/01/2014 22:28

Woodburnerbabe
Fasting is the "in thing" - do it if it suits you but please don't feel pressured as it definitely does not suit everybody.

On the other hand, it really does work and has let me maintain at a happy weight for a year

MerylStrop · 07/01/2014 22:33

Another fast day done, not to painful - was busy all day and went to hot yoga at 5 which meant I had another reason not to eat before, and didn't feel especially like eating much after. Have jsut picked a bit at the butternut squash soup I'm making for tomorrow night though so must remember that this is also calories. I love cooking but when I cook i pick, on the premise of checking taste and must stop.

Betty, hot yoga is just like normal yoga, except hot! I don't go to Bikram as a I prefer my yoga a bit more variable, so have been going to vinyasa/flow and yin. Yin more for head than body really, but still good stretching. I was worried I might find the heat too much but am much less conscious of it once I am into the practice.

Whatever exercise i do I go red and sweat buckets, so no change there and most other people are the same in the heat. Apparently intensifies detoxification, and as I am off the caffeine and diet coke at last I am keen on this. It's also been quite motivating to think of a lovely hot room on these bleak and blustery winter nights.

WoodBurnerBabe · 07/01/2014 22:35

Am sure it works! I just have v little willpower. Although can't be that bad as I've lost 6lbs so far since this threa was started, which is amazing!

Tomorrow won't happen, maybe Thursday - although I think I will have to plan carefully what I'm going to eat on that day...

peanutbutterandbanana · 08/01/2014 10:17

Ladies (and gents).... I'm in on this one. 1lb a week seems like an attainable goal, esp if this thread keeps going.

I had the shock of my life this morning when I weighed myself after several months of not doing so and found myself a stone heavier than I thought. Yikes. I've always been quite active so it is what I am eating that has got to change.

Went for an early morning run this morning. Have only just started running as I am a walker normally. But I ran 28'16'' last Sunday and did the same circuit in 27'50" this morning. Am now experiencing that feeling of saintlihood that will stay with me all day I hope! Two boiled eggs for breakfast with dry toast.

Am taking a portion of my home-made (therefore healthy) fish pie to work with broccoli and fruit plus a yoghurt for later in the day to stop the munchies.

Am wondering if I should try this 5:2 fasting lark. My worry is that I would pig out on the NF days Hmm

Curioustiger · 08/01/2014 11:18

Peanut I would put money on you eating slightly less on NFDs... Not deliberately so, it's just your stomach will shrink. Give it a go, it's not for everyone but its worked brilliantly for me!

peanutbutterandbanana · 08/01/2014 11:56

Thank you Curious. I think I might give it a go. Just downloaded My Fitness Pal and I am allowed quite a lot of calories Grin so may have two days a week when I eat half of that allowance. I know that if I am constantly thinking about food because I am hungry it won't work. I've worked out that there are two days of the week when I can't do any exercise due to other commitments, so that would be the days to eat less. On the other days I am going to use MFP to keep me on track.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 08/01/2014 11:59

My stomach has shrunk already Grin had two rashers of bacon and three scrambled eggs at 8.30 and am still stuffed.

bettyblueeyes83 · 08/01/2014 12:17

Sounds good, Meryl, bar the sweating!

bobblypop · 08/01/2014 13:19

afternoon all
to all those considering more dc I say go for it - I have 6 LOL!

I tried the fasting thing a while back but hated. I became soooo grumpy and irritable on fast days...may try it again in the future.

peanut run sounds good. I don't dare time myself at the moment as I know it will just depress me compared to when I was a good weight and properly fit and running 10 mile runs Sad Still at least I am back out there and will build up again!

had a good day yesterday and was 120 calories under plus I had about 350 exercise calories I didn't eat. Seem to be more hungry today though and at home this afternoon so will need to be careful.
not a running day today but may dig out my shred dvd from wherever I shoved it after doing the first 3 days and giving up Blush

need to go and do something positive to distract from big chocolate cravings.....

WoodBurnerBabe · 08/01/2014 13:48

bobblypop, do you work with 6 kids? Just wondering as I would like a 4th but can't see how to reconcile that with a job I love as 3 is pushing it bit right now...

peanutbutterandbanana · 08/01/2014 14:02

I've just started on My Fitness Pal. Anyone want to hook up? My name is Betsysbesty on there.

I have not been able to eat all my lunch, am feeling stuffed and MFP tells me I still have another 900 cals to eat today. Am going to ignore the calories I have burned with run Grin

Bobbly - 10 miles sounds an awful lot! Bet you'll get back up there. I'm aiming for a 5k some time this year (by September)

bobblypop · 08/01/2014 14:20

woodburner yes I work 4 days a week. I did take a career break of about 4 years though and went back to work 3 1/2 years ago when youngest was 2 1/2 and others were all at school. It is hard juggling it all - we have no family near by and no friends that can help out but we manage!
peanut I started with a 5k too - it was great, such a sense of achievement. I then got hooked and built up to a half marathon in 2011. for some reason though it has been a slippery slope since then of declining exercise and weight creeping back on. I am so cross with myself. I had lost 4 1/2 stone then put it all back on over 2 years Sad
anyway...back on it now and I will do it again! (not sure about another half marathon though LOL)
I do think that MFP slightly over estimates running calories. I haven't been eating mine either as of yet....
