I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

I've had chocolate and a baileys hot choc today. Within my cals though and I will be extra good tomorrow too.

MiloBelle · 06/01/2014 21:09

Hello everyone!

I have been reading the thread and have been inspired to join in if that's ok? I had added lots of you to mfp which I will be using to keep track.

I have near enough 56lbs to lose to get to my goal weight. I started in 3rd jan weighing 215 lbs and I was 207 this morning. V pleased but obviously I realise it will slow considerably!!

I am planning on doing 5:2, and have set my tdee to my goal weight to help things along. I think that's what you suggested isn't it talkinpeace?

Also going to try and do c25k. Does anyone know if there is an app you can do this with in the gym? Don't fancy running outside in this weather! Grin

MiloBelle · 06/01/2014 21:14

Btw my mfp name is same as on here if anyone wants to add me.

TalkinPeace · 06/01/2014 21:27

Milobelle
Go for it.

The main thing is to motivate each other to keep going, and be there for each other to pick up the pieces after a crap day.

The 5:2 threads vary between recipe swaps, child care woes, gym stories, taking the piss out of husbands (and wives as we have several men on those threads) but the main thing is that most people post once every couple of days

So if you feel you are slipping or need a rant or need somebody to tell you NOT to bury your head in the biscuit tin, MN is always awake, there is always a friendly ear
and if it goes really pear shaped, switch to private messages or get your post deleted after you've ranted

but DON'T GIVE UP
getting to a healthy weight this year will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life.
It matters. You matter.

Chants73 · 06/01/2014 21:41

Hi Milobelle. I use Get running for c25k on the treadmill. I imagine it works for outside too. Its an android app, so I assume there's an apple equivalent

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 21:44

Yup, there is an iPhone Get Running. I've used it, it got a lardy arsed heifer like me running 5-7km 3x per week in about 13 weeks. Then I had a baby and it all went to pot. Just picking it up again now, baby is now 13 months...

MerylStrop · 06/01/2014 21:46

Feeling fucking heroic, went to hot yoga. In this hideous weather. By far the fattest person in the room, but happily not the least bendy. I know that's not what yoga is all about. If I could just shift some of this tummy flab it would all be lots easier.

Fast day tomorrow and first proper day back at work. Not a great combo. Considering a swim at lunchtime as distraction tactic.

Does anyone else find they have trouble sleeping if they exercise late/r in the day? I find often that I enjoy a later class or swim more (body woken and warmed up, not stressing about having to get anywhere after), but often have trouble getting or staying asleep. Which is then a problem. If I exercise in the morning I could quite happily have a snooze afterwards. Is this a recognised thing? Or just me?

MiloBelle · 06/01/2014 21:48

I hear you there wood! My ds is 13 months too. It's hard to fit exercise in with dc isn't it?!?

It's my 30th in August so I really want to be at a healthy bmi by then (exactly 28lbs to get to the top of the healthy range).

MiloBelle · 06/01/2014 21:50

Thanks also chants and wood for the app recommendation - I will check it out.

evelynj · 06/01/2014 21:51

Marking my place as biggest I've ever been. Lost loads before twice then had 2 dc. Need to lose 5 stone plus. Seems so daunting but baby steps. Gone to bed early tonight & all this week I will to avoid eating & drinking!

Applesnotcakes · 06/01/2014 21:52

mummyduck I lost weight over the course of last year and sometimes I was exercising a fair amount, c25k and the Shred, and sometimes I did nothing because I'd hurt my back. And it made no difference to weight loss. So wouldn't worry, it's the calories that really matter.

That said I do think exercise makes you look better, and feel better. And it helps keep your head in the right place. So if you can get out for the odd walk or run or do an exerciseDVD every now and then it does help. But if you can't, no problem. Whatever changes you can make will be good, even if its just re food.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 06/01/2014 22:09

Thanks everyone Smile

Good to hear that people have managed it with little exercise! I was a total gym bunny before dd. done a lot of body pump and combat plus a 5k usually once a week. I loved going but had to cut down quite a bit when I got plantar fasciitis in my foot. I continued with pump and the odd combat but I would suffer so much pain it wasn't worth it Sad.

I then fell preg with dd, had horrendous morning sickness and only 'gained' 5lbs at full term to my starting weight due to being so sick! 2 weeks post natal I had lost over a stone from my pre preg weight and was the lightest id been in a long time. I swore I'd never put it back on but of course I did and I'm now just under 2 stone heavier that pre preg. So in just over 2 years I've gained almost 3 stone. That horrific!

There, I've said it all now. It's my inspiration to keep going. I'd like by dd birthday in September to have lost at least that extra 2 stone but ultimately I'd love to be at my post natal weight. That would really be something special to me Smile

And on that note, I'm off to bed before I start on dd chocolate coins Wink

MerylStrop · 06/01/2014 22:26

Mummy do you think you could manage a bit of weights work at home in the evening - or stuff like the 30 day fitness challenges (horrific planks and wall sits but incrementally built up) - not too much bumping about to frighten the neighbours.....but could help you build muscle mass and tone? Also a bit of DIY yoga?

FWIW I find its the eating habits that help you to lose weight. Exercise for me helps to put me off eating, and generally feel better. Doesn't really impact on weight loss in the same way as adjusting my diet.

Feartheescalator · 07/01/2014 08:12

I am starting my diet today - feel equally terrified and excited. I am 13st 5lbs and hope to lose 4 st by eating 1200 calories a day. My MFP name is Sigma39. Off I go to make some healthy porridge

bettyblueeyes83 · 07/01/2014 08:45

Meryl, what was hot yoga actually like? My new gym has it and I'm curious. I've done a fair bit of fitness yoga and other styles but never bikram. I'm scared of passing out!

HugAndRoll · 07/01/2014 14:29

Exercise is the next thing I need to get a handle on. Not sure what to do other than walking. I should start running again but the weather has been so rubbish I haven't found the motivation yet.

SunshineOnACrappyDay · 07/01/2014 16:00

I weighed in today :)

Start weight last summer - 15st 10lb
Last weigh in 7 December - 14st 10lb
Today's weigh in - 14st 7lb

I've still got over 5st to my fighting weight, but I'm chuffed that I lost despite my Xmas excesses.

Feartheescalator · 07/01/2014 16:52

Well done Sunshine

TalkinPeace · 07/01/2014 17:18

How to get into exercise with small DCs
Buy a second hand Wii : a wii, wii fit board, two controllers and the software should set you back no more than £100 from a pawn shop

then you can do the games, the yoga, all sorts
little kids doing the step is hilarious :
so you can become the family that gets and stays fit together

BigWellyLittleWelly · 07/01/2014 17:25

Don't go to aldi when they are selling off the Christmas food. That's 400cals I won't be able to have for dinner!

WoodBurnerBabe · 07/01/2014 17:51

Oooh, we have a wii that never gets used - must dig out and get the kids using it :-) someone recommended Just Dance? Anyone got it? Hopefully going for a run tonight as well if it doesn't tip it down...

MyNameIsKenAdams · 07/01/2014 18:22

Dinner tonight is a chicken breast stuffed with light mozarella wraped in parma ham (naughty) with a stew of aubergine courgettes potatoes and peppers in a passata and balsamic sauce (good).

Saved most of my cals for it!

HugAndRoll · 07/01/2014 19:21

That sounds lovely! How many calories is it?

bobblypop · 07/01/2014 19:25

evening all.
well done on some great weight losses.
Can't recall when I last posted - but at weigh in on Monday I had stayed the same - I had only been good for 4/7 days and over induldged on Tues and Weds so to be expected!
anyway, have stuck with it this week. Have also just been for another run and love that I can feel myself getting fitter - I can nearly run up the whole of the hilly bit without walking!
Next thing I need to work on is reducing my sugar intake which is still high according to mfp - it has always been my downfall! still one step at a time!

MyNameIsKenAdams · 07/01/2014 19:41

475, though 300 of that is the chicken/ham part
