I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Remember, slowly off = slowly back on

hillsy27 · 06/01/2014 10:44

Im in ! I need to loose 3 stone to be a healthy bmi.

BrokenButNotFinished · 06/01/2014 11:03

So 9.5lbs down on my first horrible weigh-in, which is quite acceptable since I haven't yet been trying very hard... I have had to lay off the drink almost entirely since December 27th, on account of the uti. I had one glass of sauvignon b on Saturday, when I thought it had responded to antibiotics, but it has come back again. Obviously I have to go back to the GP, but the ensuing detox is a benefit. Every cloud etc... ;-)

Curioustiger · 06/01/2014 11:04

I weighed in this morning and have lost a lb. I am mid way through my 5:2 journey so this means I've achieved my first goal - lose 1.5 stone and weigh the same as I did per-pregnancy! I am so pleased. I average weight loss of lb a week but it did plateau for a month or so before Christmas so I just wanted to let you all know to stick with it!

I will set a new goal now to lose a stone and get into a healthy BMI range. (Then a stretch goal of an extra half stone after that but I am not thinking about that now). I think lb a week means I should target achieving that one stone loss by Easter. I know these targets are a bit smaller than for some on the thread but I have never lost weight before in my life so it is a big deal for me!

BrokenButNotFinished · 06/01/2014 11:04

Well done everyone btw. Even if we haven't all got the calories sussed yet, everyone's trying!

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 11:05

I've got past the danger point at about 10am when I always feel like a snack. I've committed to going for a run at lunchtime as our work shower is used so rarely, if I I want to use it at lunch I have to turn the hot water on at about 9am! Which has been done, so no getting out of it now! I've bought the Zombies, Run! running app so let's see how I do being chased by zombies up the High Street...

Someone up thread asked for meal plans for fast days.

Talkinpeace will tell me off for this but my method is:

  • no breakfast ever
  • unlimited cups of tea and coffee with skimmed milk, I don't count the milk but try and leave 50 cals to account for it at the end of the day (don't always manage that though). Fizzy water and if I am desperate a zero cal fizzy drink (that is for absolute desperate times though)
  • no lunch
  • if I am really starving I might have a couple of hartleys 10 cal jellies, they are really filling and I think 2pm is the hardest time if the day for me so it staves off the pangs for a bit
  • dinner at about seven: either three boiled eggs and two slices of toast, soup and toast or a M&S fuller for longer ready meal at 450 cal or less

I know ready meals have higher cals than they say on the packet but this approach has given me a steady lb a week weight loss so I am not too worried if I'm a 100 or so over.

I absolutely rigidly stick to my two fast days per week and on the two occasions I've missed one, I do three the following week.

I literally eat whatever I want on NFDs and don't calorie count although my appetite has naturally decreased.

My DH is doing exactly the same and whole he refuses UK weigh himself the loss is really obvious so must be at least a stone.

dietstartstmoz · 06/01/2014 11:24

Have been watching this thread, and would like to join in. I have 52lbs to lose. I am 5ft 6in, age 41, and today weigh 14st 9lbs, I am a size 18 and have never been so huge before. A 52lb loss would take me to 10st 13lbs. I am doing MFP, and exercise. Am trying to download couch to 5k and have ordered the 30 day shred, we have a wii and the kids are at home today but I have managed to do a short run on the wii (10mins) and 20 mins of other aerobic stuff and worked up a sweat doing it.

CecyHall · 06/01/2014 11:34

8lb off for me for my first weigh in.

Now psychologically I need to not think I'm 7 weeks ahead of my target and I can indulge a little.

But at least I've recognised how I might think based on my past behaviour so I can hopefully be sensible!

slalomsuki · 06/01/2014 12:04

I promised myself that I wouldn't stand on the scales until week 1 had finished but I couldn't resist it this morning. So 5 days in to it I have lost 4lbs which is OK for me as I haven't followed a specific diet just logging everything on MFP and trying to cut out the crap.

My weakness has been chocolate but I haven't had any since Christmas and am also trying to cut out caffeine as I drink coffee during the day. From tomorrow I am going to try to go for a walk at lunch time from work as the kids go back tomorrow.

Onwards and downwards I say.

Well done to everyone else on this thread. You are all doing well and I like the non judgemental support.

ForeverForever · 06/01/2014 12:35

! Just noticed I meant Talkinpeace not some other random poster in my earlier post!

TalkinPeace · 06/01/2014 12:54

Curioustiger
I'll not tell you off for that fast day.
Its pretty much what I do without the jellies.

For the next few weeks I'm losing weight with you ladies as I put on 4lb over Christmas and want it gone by the end of January

fasting today .... had Sunday Lunch yesterday and since then its been tea and water only
I'll keep going till supper and have 500 calories of vegetable soup / stew
but I did swim 3/4 mile, do an hour of yoga and do BodyPump this morning
the joy of term time

TalkinPeace · 06/01/2014 12:57

PS
Well done on all those losses, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
remember that in the early weeks its mostly fluid and undigested food
so your weight loss will slow right down
at which point you really have to draw on your inner strength to keep going - eat less, eat well and move around as much as you can

One of the ladies at my gym lost 8 stone year before last. She's 5 ft nothing. She started with swimming and now does every class going - and as she got fitter as she lost the weight, her skin has shrunk with her and she has visible muscle tone.
YOU CAN DO IT TOO

Curioustiger · 06/01/2014 13:02

Talkinpeace Grin... Thanks for your help and support btw, I am sure we all appreciate the tips and motivation, I know I do!

MyNameIsKenAdams · 06/01/2014 13:07

T

MyNameIsKenAdams · 06/01/2014 13:07

That

MyNameIsKenAdams · 06/01/2014 13:10

Oops

That will be my problem, rememberibg that my goal is 1lb. I dont want to be disappointed at hitting my target but fear I will for a little while.

Can fasten my jeans without my tummy flopping over the waistband now, which I couldnt do two weeks ago, so there are definite plusses, even after 6lbs total.

StripyPenguin · 06/01/2014 13:40

TalkinPeace agreed; when I did my first diet I lost 7lbs in a week and then it dropped to between 1-3 lbs a week, usually 1lb or 2lbs. Plus you get to that plateau after a while.
I'm back at work today so I know that exercise is going to be an issue as I can't afford the gym and have a lot of work to do at home so time is an issue as well - here come the excuses! I'm going to have to hope to do it with dieting.

hopebeyondreason · 06/01/2014 16:08

I started on Thursday but want to weigh in on Mondays. So I lost 2lb, which I'm happy about. Now 13st 5lbs. I have decided not to diet at all, but to eat healthily i.e. low carb, low sugar, but can have it if I want it. I want to try something different this time.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 06/01/2014 16:18

Has anyone managed a decent weight loss without exercise? I hate using excuses but I really can't fit much in. I'm a single parent so can't even sneak off for an hr or so in the evenings Sad
As it is now I'll be working every afternoon 2-6pm but the mornings I take DD to toddlers then it's home for lunch etc then to drop her off at grandparents so I can go to work. I've thought about fitness DVDs but living in a flat with people underneath I'm cautious about jumping about!!!

We have a lot of woods at end of our street and often at weekend me and dd will set off on a walk but she's only 2 so it's often snails pace Grin. I can ask my parents to have her the odd extra hour or so that I can go a walk/jog but as they already watch her when I'm at work, I don't like to take advantage.

Curioustiger · 06/01/2014 16:28

I'm not advocating this but I lost 1.5 stone without any increase in exercise levels. I do walk a lot (prob an hour a day on weekdays and two hours on weekends) as I don't have a car, but at a very gentle pace. All of my weight loss is down to 5:2.

However, for health, I do recognise it would be better to exercise, so don't copy me!

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 06/01/2014 17:35

I didn't do too well. :( Lost nothing at all. But that's because I gave up mid-week and then gorged on chocolate most days. Why do I do this to myself?

But I'm going to put it behind me and start again this week. I'll try and stick to my meal plans and get in at least 1 hour of exercise per day. This week I want to lose 2 lbs. To make up for the pound I didn't lose last week.

Will read the rest of the thread to motivate myself.

darwiniandreams · 06/01/2014 17:40

Weighed in this afternoon

Start weight 15st 4lbs
Current weight 14st 12lb

Total loss 6lbs

I have got used to my low calorie intake as I've been a lazy mare been off work. Been told today that I can go back soon which will allow me a few more calories. Once back I'll never be off my feet.

Thank you for the support so far Thanks

justonemorecake · 06/01/2014 17:58

Well to everyone with weight loss. We are all going in the right direction.

I really struggle with motivation once the weight loss slows down. I need to remember to keep going and not give up.

My first day back at work today. It was a teacher training day so there were lots of biscuits available and a big Lu ch buffet. I didn't do brilliantly but I managed to stick to two biscuits with my cup of tea and one round of sandwiches. I regretted the big handfuls of crisps I are though.

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 19:12

My run at lunchtime turned out to be a bit more eventful than anticipated! I use the gym that is in the same building as my office to change and shower, as we don't have showers in our office. They are vair nice and let us do this for free :-)

Except I got back from the run, and they had forgotten I was out as they had gone and locked up. Thought "no problem, there's a class at 4pm so they'll be back later". Except they weren't, and I had to sit at my desk in smelly running gear. And then I had to break in via the fire escape to get my clothes and car keys back.
