I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Had a friend roubd tonight and he and dh fancied takeaway so I got a chicken kebab - in the aim of being healthy - griddled with salad and a small pot of garlic sauce. Large pitta though. And I snaffled two slices of their garlic bread with cheese.

Went 98cals over (when I pick the stuff off MFP I go for the most calorific on the list so Im.not underestimating) not toi bad but could do better.

Is it bad to wish for a big pee and a big poop before I weigh in the morning iBlush

BehindLockNumberNine · 05/01/2014 22:20

Darwinian - I found myself weighing potatoes today too!! Dh was chuckling as I was weighing every single ingredient for my portion of roast dinner....
To be fair I must have looked a bit of a loon as after weighing I was making notes ready for putting on MFP later...

hi I'm in, got a couple of stone to lose, I started in October and lost 8lb in eight weeks that's a pound a week, but it wasn't really it's what it averaged out at over the eight weeks but had a relapse in the beginning of December with the pressure of Christmas, plus I think Christmas is the one time in the year when you should eat what you like, maybe just for a week though, but after a lot of research I found the best way for weight loss is strength training exercises none of this running malarkey
and eating plenty of protein as protein as protein builds muscle but not a lot in women and muscle burns fat. sorry will talk more tomorrow the baby is crying buy for now..jenny

Completed my first day of mfp logging, as tidydancer ( I think) suggested I'm going to look at weekly calorie intake to accommodate two fast days. 1st fast day tomorrow!

I based my TDEE on doing light activity, but not taking any exercise calories into account on MFP, just logging each activity with a nominal 1 calorie... I'm one of those who underestimates intake and overestimates expenditure, hence getting into this situation in the first place!

I plan to have my week as Sunday- Saturday so I can use up my weekly calories guilt free on a Saturday. Then weigh in on Sunday morning.

See how it goes!

Thanks all for posting your strategies etc. here.

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 05:42

Well, weighed in this morning.

Start Weight 14st2lbs
Current Weight 13st10lb
Total Lost 6lbs

Am very chuffed to be going back to work nearly half a stone lighter than before Christmas!

loopybear · 06/01/2014 06:36

Although I weighed in last Monday I'm starting today as had birthdays etc. last week.
Start weight 15 st 0 lbs
Target weight 11 st 4 lbs

Starting 5:2 today 1st fast day

justonemorecake · 06/01/2014 06:40

Weighed this morning:

Start weight: 17st1lb
Current weight: 16st11lb
Total lost 4lb

So not dramatic weight loss, but I'm quite pleased, as I have been out for a few meals since we started and have still been working my way through the Christmas treats! I think to continue from here I need to make healthier food choices.

Now I'm just promising myself that I will NEVER see 17st on the scales again!

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 06:51

Dramatic weight loss might not last. Slow and steady is the way - I'm sure my 6lbs in 10 days will slow down to around 1lb per week - and this loss now is a little buffer in case I have a bad week so I can still stay on target for 1lb/week average over the year :-)

DH weighed in as well and has lost 4lbs. He has a lot to lose, but this is a fab start. Good for the wallet too, as no takeaways this week, we are buggers for not being bothered to cook...

We need to be better role models for the children.

shutitweirdo · 06/01/2014 06:51

Just weighed in

Start weight 238 lbs
Todays weight 231.2 lbs
Total loss 6.8 lbs

This is from 27th December so 10 days not just a week. From the first 4 days I lost 4lbs so a bit :( its not a bit more. Might have to put money in a jar to show how much I've lost then get a treat every 7lbs.

Chants73 · 06/01/2014 06:53

Weighed today too.
Start weight 17st 9
Today 17st 5

Just been being more careful, but doing first 5:2 fast today

Applesnotcakes · 06/01/2014 08:05

Well done losers! A treat for every half stone is a good idea. The rather large number of pounds to lose can feel a bit daunting so I like the idea of smaller goals along the way - with rewards!

I've weighed. - 4 pounds off

Start 13 13
Today 13 9

Very pleased with that although its the Christmas weight coming off and I know recently put on weight goes faster - easy on, easy off. Still I'm pleased to be back to where I was in December. Now to crack on with the more resistant poundage.

Not going to be helped by planning meeting at work happening over lunch. Am not having breakfast - big glass of water and black coffee - and will see if I can last. Have emergency satsuma with me if I need to eat something and some Special K cereal bars for 89 cals which are useful if I need something at work.

But am also going to try and work through hunger. I'm still a bit scared of it and worry what if I feel hungry etc, but I know really that if you have a drink it will go and anyway even if it doesn't its not horrendous. Stick it out, imagine my body's burning fat when it feels like that.

Good luck all, so nice to have such a motivating group

WoodBurnerBabe · 06/01/2014 08:10

applesnotcakes I'm back at work today as well and unfortunatley I've just eaten my lunch that I packed to save me from Tesco. Now I have to work the whole day with nothing else as I have no money and no calories to spare!

I do have cup-a-soup in my desk, 89 cals each so I could possibly have one of those if I get desperate, and some porridge sachets although they are a bit more.

I think I will go for a run at lunchtime to earn some more and stave off the Tesco visit.

Need inspiration to stay on track today!

bettyblueeyes83 · 06/01/2014 08:19

Shut it, that's a great loss. The biggest amount it's safe to lose (after the first week or so when you lose water) is about 2lbs a week anyway. After that you risk losing lean muscle as well as fat. So well done!

Weight last Weds: 194.4
Weight today: 189.5
Loss so far: 4.9lbs.

Second fast today!

BrokenButNotFinished · 06/01/2014 08:25

Technically my first day on the wagon, although the children are not back to school until tomorrow, there's loads of chocolate lurking in corners and I still have a fridge full of cheese... :-\

Not fasting today though.

atomicyoghurt · 06/01/2014 08:37

Weighed in!

Starting: 187 lb
Today: 184 lb

So the first 3lb gone. I'm delighted even though I know it's just water and not eating so much Christmas crap. But it's nice to have lost something!

Meant to be the first fast day today but I've got 4 kids here and it's pizza for lunch. We will see.

Well Done everyone!

HugAndRoll · 06/01/2014 08:44

Start weight 12st 4lbs
Current weight 12st 3lbs

It's still a loss but not amazing. It's the lb though so I'm on track and hopefully I will continue going the right way.

PuggyMum · 06/01/2014 08:53

13st 12lb this am so 1lb off this week and 2 altogether.

I'd seen 13st 10 on the scales before the weekend so that's what I'm aiming for this week. I'm back at the gym in earnest now!

Good luck with your weigh ins everyone!

WhenDoISleep · 06/01/2014 09:04

I'm starting today.

Starting weight: 13st 13lbs.

atomicyoghurt · 06/01/2014 09:28

Has anyone on 5:2 tried doing a fast day on the weekend? Dh and I are having trouble finding two days we can both do but I don't know if I can cope on a weekend.

Tiger bread weekend treat is my downfall.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 06/01/2014 09:37

Weigh In Week Two
Start Weight - 183
Last Weigh In - 178
This Weigh In - 177
Total Loss - 6lbs

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 06/01/2014 09:37

Starting today 13st 10.

Target weight 10st 7.

Well done all those who lost!

ForeverForever · 06/01/2014 09:59

Officially starting this week - 77kg

I started using kg when the number of lbs got so high I couldn't keep track of the number of stones easily! (Anything above 11...)

Applesnotcakes · 06/01/2014 10:04

you can do it woodburnerbabe! I reckon the cup a soup is a good plan, better that than something worse. And lots of water.

StripyPenguin · 06/01/2014 10:05

Lost 1.8lbs since I last weighed myself, back to work now though so that's going to make it harder to have a healthy and sensible lunch.
Well done to everybody who lost.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 06/01/2014 10:28

Well done everyone!! Very impressive with the numbers!!

No loss but no gain for me this morning. Bit disappointed as I had a great first 5 days but went over on sat and Sunday. Back on track for this week though. I'm starting a new job tomorrow so I'll be kept busy in the afternoons so in theory I shouldn't be snacking near as much. Just need to make sure I have a good lunch that will see me through till I get my din around 7.30pm (don't finish till 6pm but by time I've picked up dd and got her to bed by 7ish).
