I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

That's great Woodburnerbabe, keep up the good work. I've got all the back to school stuff to do today, that and taking down the tree which I am sick of the sight of looking forward to - I want my lounge back.

KenAdams - how about a banana?

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 05/01/2014 09:18

Hello everyone, can I join in? I know I'm a bit late to the party! If I could lose 52 pounds this year I would be slap bang in a healthy BMI which would be fantastic.

I will use MFP, I lost a stone with it last year but that seems to be my limit, I never seem to get further than a stone! My other motivation problem is that I'm not the slightest bit bothered about how I look! But I do need to set a good example to my kids (I wouldn't want them to be 3.5 stone overweight - I'd be horrified!) and I want to be healthy. I usually run regularly, but I've got a knee injury at the moment, which means I can't do anything at all - I suspect it is not unrelated to being overweight.

So Monday is weigh in day is it? Eek!

shutitweirdo · 05/01/2014 09:30

I'm starting to get a bit worried about weigh day. I know I've lost weight about 4lb but it hasn't made much difference clothes wise. I think I was expecting a bigger loss at first. Think I may have to get the beanbags out to physically lift what I have lost.

bettyblueeyes83 · 05/01/2014 09:48

Stripy, the calories MFP gives to exercise are often inaccurate, so definitely best to take them with a pinch of salt!

Welcome, Fowl!

justonemorecake · 05/01/2014 10:11

Shutit - when I've lost weight in the past I haven't normally noticed a difference with my clothes until I've lost at least half a stone. I think I've lost at least 4lb so far but looking at pics and my clothes I still seem exactly the same!

StripyPenguin · 05/01/2014 10:18

Thanks Betty I was a bit dubious about an hour of swimming using up over 1000 calories!

MyNameIsKenAdams · 05/01/2014 10:19

Had eggs yesterday and didnt realise they were 100 calories.each?! Usually would have a three egg omelette but night have to swap to egg whites.

BigWellyLittleWelly · 05/01/2014 10:32

I originally weighed in on a Sunday so weighed this morning (will weigh again tomorrow) ans I'm dead on 14stone. Thats a 7lb loss in a week which is exactly what happens every time I diet. I do need to stick to this plan though all the way through to next Christmas.

I was meant to be working this morning but have got stuck on a sofa after a shocking night with the baby!

WoodBurnerBabe · 05/01/2014 10:32

MFP has medium eggs as 60 cals each?

MyNameIsKenAdams · 05/01/2014 10:44

Well done welly Thanks

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 05/01/2014 10:58

Well done welly!!!

I was +1 this morning no thanks to that damn Lindt bunny

It's funny as I have a jacket that I got just before Xmas. It was a little tight to zip but I didn't want to get bigger size as I planned to diet (!) but yesterday when I put it on, I noticed it zipped and didn't feel as tight.

Could just be wishful thinking though!

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 05/01/2014 11:00

Oh and with MFP, I try to go by each foods on cals listed on packet as it's more accurate. The eggs for example, the cals were way out when I typed in eggs to what was listed on the box

Applesnotcakes · 05/01/2014 12:12

The thing about eggs as woodburnerbabe says is that they are good at filling you up . So yes, they come with a few calories but they feel like worthwhile calories.

And those of you losing multiple pounds its a really great way to get motivated at the beginning and shows the impact of the changes you're making but please don't get disheartened when it slows down! I always used to start diets well and then give up after 3 or 4 weeks or so when things got tougher. The reality is you may not lose anything some weeks, or even go up a bit but if the overall trend is downwards then its all good.

I think I was averaging about half a pound last year - mainly due to my love of the drink Blush - but in the end I still lost over 30 pounds over 13 or 14 months and its made me feel different. If I can do a pound a week this year that will be fab, but if its slower I'm still sticking with it. Because that's the only way for it to work, i have to keep my head in the right place.

bobblypop · 05/01/2014 12:13

morning all.
joining others in back to school preparations today - nightmare!
feeling tired and fed up but trying not to let that translate into mindless eating of rubbish....
Started with a nice breakfast of half a grapefruit and then scrambled eggs. I do find I do better with less snacking if I have a better breakfast...
right, must get on.
Well done those who have had such good losses already.
weigh in for me tomorrow - not expecting much as only really been good for half the week but we will see...

bobblypop · 05/01/2014 12:14

oh, and agree eggs are good at filling up and stopping cravings/snacking. Definitely worth the calories imho.

HugAndRoll · 05/01/2014 12:40

I'm nervous for weigh day tomorrow. I haven't even been doing this for a full week (started New Year's Day) so I have no right to be disappointed if I haven't lost any weight.

stardusty5 · 05/01/2014 12:48

MFP question- can anyone tell me how to add people by username rather than via facebook, email address or mobile number. I'd love to add a few mumsnetters!

WoodBurnerBabe · 05/01/2014 12:51

If you're on the iPhone app, you put the username in the 'email' box where it says add by email.

BigWellyLittleWelly · 05/01/2014 13:08

Thanks - I know that the weight loss will slow down but as im breastfeeding I have to ensure my supply isn't affected.. What is shocking me is how much better I am feeling for ditching the godawful rubbish I was eating.

WoodBurnerBabe · 05/01/2014 13:22

BigWelly my skin is so much better as well... More water, more exercise and less crap is amazing...

justonemorecake · 05/01/2014 16:18

I feel much better already. I'm also enjoying feeling more in control. My eating was really getting out of hand until last week.

MerylStrop · 05/01/2014 16:41

So far so good

Fast day yesterday - miso soup for lunch, tuna and salad for supper, lots of herbal tea (found a cinnamon chai yogi tea that is really delicious and apparently cinnamon is supposed to suppress/satisfy sugar cravings.....), 24 fast lengths swimming and an hour in the pool chucking the kids about....asleep on the sofa by 8pm

Today ate breakfast with relish (oatbran with almond milk), biked to hot yoga, purple in the face and drenched, roast chicken and veg (no spuds) for supper. Need to drink more water.

Other people on 5:2 or variants - could you post up what fast day menus look like at the moment and how you feel on it?!

darwiniandreams · 05/01/2014 18:06

I don't know wether I've hit a new high or a new low.......... I have just weighed my potato for tea!!!!!Confused

roosterroo · 05/01/2014 21:14
