I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. I'm sure you all feel the same.

I've planned my dinner so I know what calories I have for the rest of the day. I need to meal plan for the rest of the week too so I can go shopping. Does anyone have any low cal recipe suggestions?

bobblypop · 01/01/2014 12:26

happy new year all.
Last 2 days not gone quite to plan, but still better than they have been. Have been out for a run this morning and am just setting up mfp and working out the best way to tackle this...
Good luck to everyone - and here's to a new slim 2014...bring it on!

BigWellyLittleWelly · 01/01/2014 13:35

As of today I'm breaking my sugar addiction, cold turkey even going for black coffee over creamy swet coffee. Its rhe only bit of rhe low carb approach (other rhan drink lots) whochni can do when breastfeeding.

DH is fully on board and has decided to go for a three stone loss. We are portion controlling to begin with using MFP, ditching sweets and treats, and using smaller bowls/plates etc.

I've also made a long long list of things I'd like to do of an evening so that instead of sitting on the sofa with a rumblings tummy I'll be sewing, batch cooking or if the baby lets me I might even get out of the house!

Other tips I remember working when I lost weight after dc1 were to brush your teeth if you got hungry, also drink a glass of water if you felt hungry and only weigh once a week to get an average weight loss.

Can someone recommend a link to the TFEE business? On phone so can't easily search thread. Muchly appreciated

BigWellyLittleWelly · 01/01/2014 13:36

Apologies for the spelling. Baby helping!

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly · 01/01/2014 13:45

Count me in! I've prob got 60lbs to lose (writing it down to make it real) -lost most of it low carbing before but didn't do much exercise - planning on c25K this time as well.

Friend of mine gave me a tip - if you really really want fizzy drinks, put decent no added sugar squash into fizzy water. Less artificial sweetener than diet coke etc. still has some sugar though.

CheckedPjs · 01/01/2014 14:38

I'm in :) I haven't read the thread but at midnight in stead of kissing my boyfriend I was pouring Pepsi Max's and diet coke down the sink and shoving the crap food on top of the cupboard where I can't reach!

I'm 12.10lbs now so I'll be 9.3lbs and in my healthy weight range

BigWellyLittleWelly · 01/01/2014 16:57

Help. Kitchen crisis and rather than bulk cook over several days and work out as I go I have just had to bulk cook several different casseroles! (Meat was in danger of going off).

So. Bolognaise made with 2 tins of tomatoes, 3 onions, 1.4kg beef mince how many meals for 2 adults would you serve that up as?

And a pork tagine - 2 x 225g chorizo, 2 tins butter beans, 1,3kg pork leg - how many meals? Its a very dense meal so had with pitta breads and salad rather than any additional carbs.

OpposableThumbs · 01/01/2014 17:04

I'm in. Was horrified to find I am now the heaviest I have ever been and my bmi has tipped in to being obese.

I'm now 14st 5lb so aiming for 10st 9lb by the end of the year.

I'm going to attempt low carbing, I am a bit scared of it though as I love carbs but I have been very good today.

WoodBurnerBabe · 01/01/2014 17:53

bigwelly I normally allow about 125-150g mince per average adult when making mince. 500g with 1 tin toms does us 1 evening meal for average me and greedy DH, then smaller lunch portions for the following day. We have frequently been known to eat the lot though...

Not sure about the tagine, but the meat allowance should be similar I think.

WoodBurnerBabe · 01/01/2014 17:55

opposable you are pretty much where I am! I was 14.2, just tipped into obese and am aiming for 10.6 - which I've never been, ever, but I think it's a good place to aim for as will give me BMI=22.2

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 01/01/2014 19:20

Question. What do you do when your feeling 'hungry' but don't really want to eat anything? I had a late lunch/early dinner so starting to feel peckish Confused. I've got about 100 cals left going by mfp. I might have a cup of tea and take the Xmas tree down, hopefully that might stop me nibbling.
This is hard! BlushGrin

HugAndRoll · 01/01/2014 19:24

It is hard. I've still got a yogurt to eat and 3 cups of coffee which have been accounted form before I closed mfp. I'm well below today but doing some damage limitation from Christmas Grin

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 01/01/2014 19:26

I drink tea black so I don't have the cals from milk to add in. Ill see how I go once I start on the tree. Should keep my busy!

Curioustiger · 01/01/2014 19:28

Hartleys 10 cal jellies are fantastic I think, I am not sure they have any nutritional value at all but they are quite filling... I have two at a time.

willowash · 01/01/2014 19:38

I'm in, just done my fist days food diary on my fitness pall. I'm 5foot (cough 4"11) haha and I'm 15 stone, morbidly obese and only 28. Disgusted with myself but ready and determined to loose as much as I can

MyNameIsKenAdams · 01/01/2014 19:51

Filled in my food for today and have 408 cals left - treat or save??

BigWellyLittleWelly · 01/01/2014 19:57

Save

BrokenButNotFinished · 01/01/2014 20:01

Are you actually hungry...? Perhaps thinking of foods as a 'treat' is what got us into this pickle in the first place...

MyNameIsKenAdams · 01/01/2014 20:07

True!!

Am at work til 11.30pm so if I get hungry I will have a banana.

BehindLockNumberNine · 01/01/2014 20:14

I am starting in earnest tomorrow. Today was a nibbling-leftovers day...

I still need to work out what to do for the games evening / party I am invited to on Friday. It starts at 6.30. Will need to leave here just before 6. Am out with dd unti around 5. So not sure whether to eat first or to skip dinner and eat nibbles at the party??

Well done to those of you who have started already. I wanted to but did not manage it in the end...

justonemorecake · 01/01/2014 20:21

When I'm hungry I've started either having a glass of water or finding something to keep me busy.

Chants73 · 01/01/2014 20:29

Not had time to read all the posts, but havr found using mfp enlightening in terms of calories etc. Realised I eat far too little protein (vegetarian and dont like eggs) so made a load of lentil soup and need to do more beans etc. Have not been trying to eat less since, just being more mindful until first fast on monday. Feeling positive at the moment. Start moving more tomorrow....

emmief77 · 01/01/2014 20:39

Thanks again talkinpeace Flowers

Going to brave the scales in the morning Shock and look at my TDEE

emmief77 · 01/01/2014 20:48

Okay guys gonna brave the scales tonight, was gonna wait til tomorrow before any meals....

MotherGirth · 01/01/2014 20:51

Ugh. I feel revolting. We've just had out last family get-together of the season. There's one unopened tub of chicks left (it's staying unopened - I'm saving them for DD's party bags) an open tin of shortbread which I'm going to keep for a treat on non-fast days (NFDs) and a couple of unappealing selection box bars. All the nice wine and the Baileys is finished, so I'm good to go but looking horrendous.

I've just taken some before pics. I can't believe I've been going around looking as I do for so long. I've been alternating between a shapeless jumper dress and a boring Joules smock dress with leggings for ages. I wear them everywhere, including work. Under the jumper dress you can see the apron of flab around my middle. There's a ledge of fat on my hips. The smock dress makes me look pregnant. We moved in December and of the removal men made a pregnancy-related comment. I'm pretty sure he thought I was PG (DS is 14mo now).

In our new house there's a wall at the end of the landing tastefully mirror tiled. I'm not going to take them down until I've lost the weight as they're a constant reminder of what I actually look like, as opposed to what I think I'm getting away with.

I know this all sounds very superficial and self-loathing, but actually my very healthy and slim mum was diagnosed with an aggressive tumour this autumn, and it's brought home to me te need to be healthy if only to stand a chance of surviving, if not preventing such diseases. I owe it to her to sort myself out.

So, first proper fast day tomorrow, followed by TDEE from Friday - Sunday, and another fast on Monday. After that I'll start to relax a bit on Saturdays but for now I need to Get On With It.
