I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Oh great to have lots of new mfp friends. I created a new profile with my mn name as I don't want to link it to my previous rl account

Yay, ready to go!

TheOnlySevenSleighbells · 29/12/2013 21:01

I'm in. My new scales arrived yesterday, I weigh 15 stone, that's half a stone heavier than when the old ones broke Sad. I'm starting on 2nd Jan.

Mfp app is playing up but I'm OnlySeven if anyone wants to add me Smile

MyNameIsKenAdams · 29/12/2013 21:01

After a bad day ive taken myself off to bed to watch the Christmas Call the Midwife.

Prior to this thread I would have brough crackers and pate with me but eating mindfully has got me thinking that I dont need them, and didnt need them before, just wanted them.

WoodBurnerBabe · 29/12/2013 21:03

Yay Ken. I ate the kids leftovers in a mindless fashion, but then didn't also have my tea as well. Support works :-)

MyNameIsKenAdams · 29/12/2013 21:04

Ahh r

TheOnlySevenSleighbells · 29/12/2013 21:04

Wow that was quick! I have a friend already Smile

OohMrDarcy · 29/12/2013 21:13

motivated by just joining this thread, I have just done day 1 of the 30 day shred, first time in a year or so and wasn't as bad as I was expecting, so woo! Might even do it tomorrow Grin

WoodBurnerBabe · 29/12/2013 21:17

OnlySeven you should be able to add people from yours friend's friend list. I'm the one that ends _girl and everyone on my friend list is from this thread, apart from the one who hasn't logged in for a couple of weeks, user name starting sam...

You should quickly build up a fab support network if you add as many as you can :-)

isitnormal · 29/12/2013 21:21

I'm in too. I'm 13st 5, BMI 31 - never been so heavy in my life :-( I keep trying to convince myself that at least 2 stone of that must be my huge boobs!!!
Throughout my twenties I effortlessly weighed between 8 and 9 stone - I'm 34 now and it's really caught up with me.
A 52lb weight loss would take me to 9st 9 and a BMI slap bang in the healthy range - 22.5.
To be honest, I'd settle for weighing 11st, which is the weight I was when I met my fiance in 2011. We're getting married in 2015 and I'm determined to lose it before then.
I haven't been able to exercise for months due to plantar fasciitis in my foot, but thanks to a recent cortisone injection I'm ready to hit the gym again - I just need to stay away from the booze, because that's definitely where my excess calorie intake comes from.
I'm starting Jan 1st and I WILL do it!

TheOnlySevenSleighbells · 29/12/2013 21:39

Thanks wood.

Even though I'm starting 2nd I might track everything for the next couple of days anyway so I can terrify myself into healthy eating see where I'm going wrong.

Curioustiger · 29/12/2013 21:59

Hi all, can i join? My story is that four months ago, inspired by Mumsnet, I started 5:2 and for the first time in my life I have been losing weight ... at a lb a week. I have found it to be incredibly easy (really). However over the last month I have found I've started to plateau despite sticking very closely to my 500 calories on fast days. I've lost 1.5 stone but ideally I would lose a further stone (or 1.5 stone as a stretch target). Therefore signing in for help and support! I've added a random selection of you on MFP...

BrokenButNotFinished · 29/12/2013 22:24

I've started trying to add people on mfp (my username is same as my mn name). And I'll put the batteries in my scales tomorrow.

I will probably weigh in on Monday - and I probably won't put too much welly into tracking until next week, when the beginning of term looms.

I will try the 5:2 thing, which I have dabbled with half-heartedly before. I will try giving the drink a miss for January, not least because I currently have a dose of festive cystitis Hmm. Re: exercise - I do British Military Fitness and a fair bit of walking. Some swimming. I was also doing zumba and pilates until recently, but the classes have changed, so I need to rearrange. I find that if I'm doing pilates, all the other exercise is easier.

I have my own body weight in cheese in the fridge... Blush

Ponyphysio · 29/12/2013 22:30

I'm in. I need to join my fitness pal, but i will use the same name to keep it simple. See you on the other side!!

DearPrudence · 29/12/2013 22:37

I'd like to join please. Will set up MFP tomorrow and post properly but marking place for now. Smile

steppemum · 29/12/2013 22:57

right, I was thinking about doing this in the new year, and this thread has inspired me.
I joined a thread last year and lost 1 stone and about half has crept back on.

I am 16 stone (and some lbs) and need to be 11 stone or under.

Not sure how to do it yet, but I will give it a go.

I like concrete goals too, so goal one is my size 16 jeans which I bought when I started loosing weight last year. I have the same style in 18, fitting into them was goal one last year. I am still able to fit in them (just) so get down to the size below would be a good start.

Chants73 · 30/12/2013 07:33

After saying I wasn't going to weigh self til the 2nd, I decided to do it today. 17stone 9. Bugger. Intend to eat sensibly for a week, before first fast on6th. It will get me in habit for tracking and recognising calories values in food before stepping it up next week. Mfp name is purplechants. Not worked out how to add people yet, but will try

loopybear · 30/12/2013 07:38

I've weighed myself this morning and was horrified to find I was 15 stone. On my phone and couldn't copy and paste everyone's stats. Have taken selfies in mirror to motivate / see progress

Height 5'10",Clothes size 18
Start weight 15 st, Target weight 14 st 2lbs (52 lbs) Mfp loopywaterbabe 5:2 and exercise

Wittsend13 · 30/12/2013 08:03

I'm in! I'm 5'2 and weighed in at 13st to am four stone overweight and I'm starting my diet 2nd January. I will he doing exante to drop two stones and then onto good old calorie counting.Smile

WoodBurnerBabe · 30/12/2013 08:16

I've been tracking to keep me motivated before starting properly today. DH and I weighed in this morning (we have a teensy tiny wager going on who can lose the weight first!) and I've lost 3lbs already :-) So am down from 14.2 to 13.13. DH is 17.11 and his target is 14.1

Game on, people!

ApplySomePressure · 30/12/2013 08:49

Wow, this thread is really going strong-it's been such a motivation for me, knowing that we are all in this together. Every time I think of over eating, I remember that you'll all be able to see it in MFP food diaryGrin

I can't remember who recommended the Beck diet book, but it arrived yesterday and it's really good. It's not a "diet book", it helps you to work out why you over eat and why you can't cope with hunger.

The part about not being able to cope with hunger really hit home, I really panic if I think that I won't be able to eat in the next few hours. I hate feeling hungry. Of course, this all stems from watching DM suffer from eating disorders during my childhood. The book helps to remind me that feeling hungry is ok, and you only have to eat until you are reasonably full- not stuffed.

bobblypop · 30/12/2013 08:49

morning all.
I have just weighed myself for first time in ages and am totally disgusted with myself. Sad I now weigh 13 stone 9 lb which is even worse than when I started losing weight a few years ago and was 13 stone 7. And I thought I hadn't quite put it all back on .Sad (and I'm only 5 ft 3 Sad)
Anyway, using it as a wake up call. I know I can do it cause I've done it before!!
Ate fairly well yesterday and did 3 mile run. Feeling motivated to stick with it today...fingers crossed. Going to weigh again next Monday and would be fab to be at least back to 13 stone 7 !
Good luck everyone who's started for today! Grin

ApplySomePressure · 30/12/2013 08:50

Oh and 2lbs off since the thread started!

bobblypop · 30/12/2013 08:53

apply that book sounds interesting, I would love to get to the route of why I eat the way I do. I know I CAN eat sensibly as I have previously lost 4 stone and gone down to size 10. But to then just spend 2 years putting it all back on when I swore I wouldn't makes no sense at all Confused I also watched my Mum very unwell and in and out of hospital with Anorexia when I was growing up and do wonder if it's connected. Off to check out book...

bobblypop · 30/12/2013 08:53

and well done on weight loss apply !

octopusinasantasack · 30/12/2013 08:59

3.2 pounds down, now 253 pounds.
