I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

I'm in. Going away for new year so will start when back in routine of work etc which is on 3 Jan.

Starting weight will be 13 stone 11 assuming new year celebrations not too disastrous. Target 11 stone. calorie counting via MFP, lots of walking and C25K when it's spring.

Good luck all, looking forward to lots of mutual motivation, chat and laughs!

BigWellyLittleWelly · 29/12/2013 16:30

For those wanting to do c25k I can strongly recommend an app called Zombies! Run! which is hilarious and teamed with another app called Map my Run allows all sorts of interesting stats to be seen for encouragement

justonemorecake · 29/12/2013 17:08

Oh no! I have just weighed myself with a different set of scales and they put me at half a stone heavier! How upsetting Sad I'm not sure whether to stick with the old, kinder weight from my mechanical scales, or the new, meaner weight from my electronic scales.

Dh got me a late Christmas present today - a jawbone 'Up' bracelet, which tracks your activity, what you eat and sleep. Hopefully it will help me keep motivated to stay active.

TalkinPeace · 29/12/2013 17:11

many years ago a friend was "invited" to depart John Lewis after she went up to the gym department, and collected two 10 kg weights and then went down to bathroomdepartment and started checking the scales against each other!

Go with half way in between
BUT
remember that by the end of January you'll be well on your way to the new you.
That bracelet sounds interesting.

justonemorecake · 29/12/2013 17:22

Thanks talkinpeace . I guess the starting weight doesn't matter too much, as long as I get to where I want to be in the end.

The bracelet is a bit like a glorified pedometer I think, but you can sync it up with an app on your phone.

taletellingtwins · 29/12/2013 19:03

Am i too late to join? Not sure of my weight bit think it's nudging over 12stone(am 5ft 4). My 6yo dtd recently said about a dress that was hung up but i was just about to wear to a party "that's nice but its too skinny. Your big tummy wont fit". Out of the mouths of babes! I would like to be a comfortable size 12 with a healthy bmi. Will weigh tomorrow and set up mfp (is there an app for windows phone does anyone know?).

taletellingtwins · 29/12/2013 19:15

Turns out i know how to use both a phone AND mfp! My username is twinmum79 Grin

WoodBurnerBabe · 29/12/2013 19:19

I think most people are weighing either Monday or Friday - I don't think we agreed on a set day for everyone! And never to late - most people don't seem to be starting until 1st jan anyway.

TalkinPeace · 29/12/2013 19:19

Am i too late to join?
It is never to late to make the decision to improve your life.

bobblypop · 29/12/2013 19:20

oh hello, can I join please! Think I need to loose around 4 stone, but too scared to actually weigh myself! A couple of years ago I lost 4 1/2 stone and was down to a size 10, ran a half marathon and felt great. Then for absolutely no logical reason at all I have spent the last 18 months doing barely any excercise and putting almost all the weight back on. Sad I'm now a size 18 again and just hate myself. Sad
BUT have realised wallowing in self pity wont solve things and have resolved to change! I have started running again and have just completed my third 3 mile run of the week, which is making me feel much better already Grin. Starting diet proper in Jan, but feeling better just knowing I am tackling it at last!
Will be great to have this thread for support. Grin

HugAndRoll · 29/12/2013 19:31

I'm looking forward to starting with all of this support. My start weight is 12st 6 so 52lbs would be 8st10. I'm 5foot 7.5 so I may stop losing before I get to that as I don't want to look too skinny although would prefer that to my ginormabelly

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 29/12/2013 19:40

Can I join in please, I'm in need of a miracle now!!! I'm 5ft7 and currently 5st over what i would like to be. I am starting tomorrow though as if I wait till jan 1st, that's another 3 days where I'll just eat shit!!

SuckItAndSee · 29/12/2013 19:43

can i please join?
have put on a stone since I got a bad injury, stopped exercising, and started eating like a beast last July. That's on top of the spare stone I was already carrying Hmm. I am crap at "structured" diets, as I'm not very organised, but have previously lost weight through portion control and c25k, so am going to try this again as of tomorrow.

start weight:12st0
target weight 10st0
(height 5'9")

TalkinPeace · 29/12/2013 19:43

Mummyduck
There are no miracles.
There is just the very hard work of relearning self discipline and searching inside yourself to understand what brain processes need to change for ever so that you need never go on a weight loss diet again.
Eat mindfully

but not putting it off any longer is a good way to start

Misfitless · 29/12/2013 19:45

Yes, need to lose more than 4 stones.

I love the title of your thread!

Is it just me, or is anyone else going round the house eating as much chocolate as possible, in order to get rid of it all in time for Jan 1st?

MotherGirth · 29/12/2013 19:51

I'm doing my first post-Christmas fast now. Will track 500 cals on MFP tomorrow and have a spin class on NYE, but not worrying about tracking anything else until 2nd Jan (which will be my Thursday fast anyway).

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 29/12/2013 19:52

Thank you talkinpeace.

I'm in mfp as MummyDuckmfp if anyone wants to add me.

I have been member of a gym this year but as a single parent I found it hard to arrange someone to watch dd just so I could go for a few hours so i doubt I'll renew this jan as I don't feel I got my money's worth Sad But I have until the end of jan to decide.

Off on a big walk tomorrow morning to blow off the cobwebs. Will start slow so dd can walk for a bit then I can bung her in buggy and I can go faster Smile

WoodBurnerBabe · 29/12/2013 20:03

I'm back to work tomorrow and planning to do my first 500cal fast. Am planning no breakfast, some kind of cupasoup for lunch and then a quarter portion of DH's spicy pork with rice.

Fingers crossed! I'm already feeling trimmer than a week ago after 3 days of tracking and being more mindful.

Going to weigh in tomorrow to get my start weight for my bet with DH. £52 to the first person to lose 52lbs...

PuggyMum · 29/12/2013 20:06

Today is a fail. Fil arrived and we've had a curry for dinner. I could probably have resisted an extra bhaji and definitely didn't need a shandy with full fat lemonade.

It wouldn't have been too bad though but fil brought some toffee puddings. At 470 cals a pop. And then there's the cream.

I'm logging it all though and it's so obvious where I can make changes. Another walk today and one planned for tomorrow so it's not all bad.

I carried baby today so heart rate was up too.

WoodBurnerBabe · 29/12/2013 20:13

I don't think it can be a complete fail if you are learning from it...

I do love bhajis though, am certain I would have struggled with that as well!

animalmagic84 · 29/12/2013 20:20

Forgot to add, my user name on mfp is also animalmagic84

justonemorecake · 29/12/2013 20:26

I wouldn't have been able to resist all that delicious food either! At least not at the moment. I want to change that habit.

Applesnotcakes · 29/12/2013 20:31

Puggy mum, you're right, MFP is brilliant for helping you see where the calories are coming from. It's the first step really, understanding what you're actually eating. Easier then to wrk out how to enjoy food, feel satisfied etc but with fewer calories.

OohMrDarcy · 29/12/2013 20:31

I'm in!

I am currently 230lb (doesn't scare me so much in that format as can't easily translate to stones in my head) if successful, it will take my bmi down from 39 is Blush h to 30 - would be very happy!

This last year I've been concentrating on making me feel better about myself, and now I feel ready to work in the body side of things

No set plan here, just eating healthier and exercising more Smile
