I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

I'll add my start weight just as soon as I've found the scales.

stoopstofolly · 28/12/2013 20:22

Thank you wood burner. Grin This will be the year I LOSE weight, not accept another 7lb annual gain! DP and family all a bit scornful about diets, so it will be nice to have people to strive with!

HepsibarCrinkletoes · 28/12/2013 20:25

I don't have a MFP acc yet, but will open it and then work out HTF to add you all!

BehindLockNumberNine · 28/12/2013 20:31

Awww crumbs, do I need to give my start weight?
Ok, it is 19stone1.
My target weight is 16stone (that is a loss of just under 52lbs)
I am 6ft1, I look ok at 16 stone.

Let's do this!

BehindLockNumberNine · 28/12/2013 20:32

Oh, and I will be playing badminton once a week and walking the dog daily (instead of asking dh to walk him)
And MFP calorie counting

HepsibarCrinkletoes · 28/12/2013 20:36

If there is anyone on this thread in SW London that fancies a jollying along RL partner, then I'm up for it. Grin

encyclogirl · 28/12/2013 20:36

Can I join? I think I have 30 to lose.

Skogkatter · 28/12/2013 20:46

Can I join! I need to lose about 30lbs or so Blush but I think I am a very slow weight dropper. Do we have to post weight?

I'm going to do more running after work and I've decided to put the car keys away- so I can walk to the bus stop (for work) or walk more in general. Plus calorie counting. And not eating as many biscuits (I'm a sucker for custard creams).... I hope it works!

stoopstofolly · 28/12/2013 20:48

I've joined MFP. User name stoopstofolly......

Morebiscuitsplease · 28/12/2013 20:49

HAving gone over my weight limit......scales weren't working I am determined to lose weight. Going for 5:2, carry on with Zumba, May try a running class and alcohol free month from 6th jan as it is my birthday. Want to. lose about 11/2- 2 stone. Hoping alcohol free month will kick start things. Want to lose my fat tum and be fitter and leaner. So glad to see other people having a try. :))

darwiniandreams: start weight 15st 4, current weight 15st 4, target weight 10st - 10st 7 but will be happy for now to get to 11st 7 after losing the 52lbs. MFP.

MotherGirth · 28/12/2013 20:54

I honestly don't think it matters when we weigh in, as long as we post it. I doubt the thread(s) will move so fast that anyone's weekly WI will go unnoticed. This speaks the failed veteran of countless weight loss attempts. This time will be different.

MotherGirth · 28/12/2013 20:55

Sorry I missed the last page when I posted that C&P.

loopybear · 28/12/2013 21:12

I'm in. 52 lbs is a great target for me and getting fitter. I've done ww and slimming before and successfully lost but always put back on. I need to do something long term and get back into power walking. Will start on 4th as my birthday on 3rd and have big dinner organises. I'm 5'10" 16 is getting too snug now. Weigh 14 stone something. Will weigh in on Monday 6th January. Will measure to and like the idea of selfie in mirror. Will go and download app too

I have to give current weight. This is making me feel a bit sick.... Here goes.

Current 12stone 8
Goal- 9 stone
Looking at it written down is frightening.

WoodBurnerBabe · 28/12/2013 21:38

stoops is is scary. I weigh over 14st. More than I've ever weighed in my life, but you have to know where you start...

Good luck.

TalkinPeace · 28/12/2013 21:42

Please remember the tricks to make weight loss sustainable

  • nothing is forbidden
  • only make one change in any week
  • you cannot 'fall off the wagon' - you just 'rest' for a week
  • there is no return to 'normal' ever, for the rest of your life
  • weight is not everything, its possible to shrink by inches without the scales budging
  • the fitter you are, the slimmer you will look compared with others of the same 'weight'
  • before you eat anything, drink a glass of water, as you are more likely to the thirsty than hungry
  • close the kitchen between and after meals ... snacks are not for your benefit
FearTheEscalator · 28/12/2013 21:59

Can I join in too, please? I am 13st 5lbs and desperate to lose 4st before I turn 40 next December. My MFP name is Sigma39. Any ideas for exercise that I can easily fit around full time job and two small DCs? I don't have any gyms nearby

MyNameIsKenAdams · 28/12/2013 22:03

Fear what about the 30 Day Shred workout dvd? Have heard it is marvellous and I have it in the wrappings ready for the NY.

TalkinPeace · 28/12/2013 22:06

Jillian Michaels has lots of her stuff on Youtube
Couch to 5k (c25k) is rated by many
do you have a wii?
the wii fit stuff is really cheap now and a great start and the kids can do it with you
just dance for xbox kinect
anything to get you jumping around for half an hour a day, every day and get the kids into being active with you

Chants73 · 28/12/2013 22:13

I'm going to weigh on the day I start which will be 2nd jan. I'm in denial till then. Going to redo c25k, but slowly, as hurt knees last time and 5:2. Am going to spend next couple of days hunting down recipes and planning, so that when I start it is as painless as possible. Prob wont fast till 6th jan as I need to to it on busy childfree days, but intend to properly meal plan on in between days and try Paul mckenna too/being more aware of what I eat/how I feel etc.....think I'll get a notebook to write down what I eat to increase awareness

BigWellyLittleWelly · 28/12/2013 22:25

Can I make a couple of suggestions?

First for those using smartphones there is an excellent free app called Hydro which prompts you to drink more water - as we all know that is key to staying healthy and removing toxins. It's completely configurable with different goals, different glass sizes and different reminders.

And secondly can I suggest someone with a handy calendar (not me as I type with one finger while breastfeeding baby dd2) lists a breakdown of how many pounds per month? So by the end of January 5lb, by the end of February 9lb etc etc so people can see how it's a longer term goal but with milestones? Could aim for nlb by Easter Sunday etc etc

Anyway I am Gumble78 on MFP so waving hello to those who've added me and will be back with the full weight damage in the morning.

FearTheEscalator · 28/12/2013 22:30

Thanks for the suggestions - I have heard wonders about The Shred and I'd love a wii if I can get one cheap enough
