I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

roosterroo I started couch to 5k but then injured my knees and never really got going again.

I found it pretty good though. I was pretty unfit but managed the runs quite well. Some would probably find the first week too easy. The podcasts are helpful. I think I'm going to start it again in the New Year and hope I get further with it this time!

TalkinPeace · 28/12/2013 17:54

Combining 5:2 and MyFitnessPal
set your weight to maintain
ie no weight loss at all
I know that feels scary
BUT
what MFP will then show is your required calories for a normal day.

Two days a week ( on 5:2 ) you will restrict to 500 calories - best to join the 5:2 threads / board for support on how

and THAT will give you the weekly deficit you need to achieve what you want.

5:2 books etc
the Michael Mosely one is the original - but you'll find quotes from we MN posters in it because our threads were going before he did the book or his excellent and incredibly supportive website

www.52fastdiet.co.uk/

looking forward to seeing you all looking fab this tine next year

MyNameIsKenAdams · 28/12/2013 17:57

I know we arent technically starting til 1st Jan but im.weighing in Mon to get my start point, if any of the Friday weighers want to do the same Fri?

justonemorecake · 28/12/2013 18:15

I think I'll weigh in this Monday as well. I'm really fighting the urge to snack at the moment. Sat watching Marple and biscuits and Christmas cake are staring at me!

roosterroo · 28/12/2013 18:24

Hmm im dubious with the running after injuring my back this year ( embarrassing bringing in washing!) I may have to unleash Jillian from the cupboard!

didireallysaythat · 28/12/2013 18:28

I'm going to start on Friday as I'm away until then and I can't diet in someone else's house.

However I'm going to try and reduce my 20 a day quality street habit.

This time I'm taking measurements as the scales number isn't as important to me as clothes that fit. And a smaller muffin top is what I need !

WoodBurnerBabe · 28/12/2013 18:48

Talkinpeace thanks for that, was wondering how I got it to work - I've sent mine to lose 1lb per week but was going to fast 2 days - that would be too much I guess?

WoodBurnerBabe · 28/12/2013 18:49

KenAdams I am going to weigh Monday to get my start point as well.

And you have the same name as my ex boss, I'm sure you don't look like him though!

MyNameIsKenAdams · 28/12/2013 18:54

Haha no I dont thankfully, being female! Its a "Friends" reference Grin

WoodBurnerBabe · 28/12/2013 18:57

He was quite fit, if that's any consolation!

TalkinPeace · 28/12/2013 18:58

woodburnerbabe
If you set to lose no weight at all on MFP - so eat your TDEE averaged over the 5 'normal' days' , and do your two days of fasts really well
and do not add back any exercise calories
52 lb in 52 weeks is utterly achievable
go for it ladies.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 28/12/2013 19:04

Im.another one not adding in any exercize. Figured id class any extra calories burned as a bonus.

I am concerned that if I do well.one week and lose two lbs or more, that it will make me think I can 'relax' the followong week.

TalkinPeace · 28/12/2013 19:12

MyNameisKenAdams
if you do an extra pound in a week, put it toward a monthly total, or quarterly total
so make it 52 in 51 or 52 in 40 etc
that will help you keep focussed
as will learning how to eat mindfully

MotherGirth · 28/12/2013 19:39

So shall we do a little summary of who's in, start weight (if you're willing) and method? I'm happy to start off. Feel free to C&P to extend the list.

MotherGirth: start weight 12st 4lbs; current weight 12st 4lbs; target weight 8st 8lbs (52lbs). 5:2 and MFP. Spinning and C25k.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 28/12/2013 19:40

Good idea.

Also, when I was getting ready for work I did the ghastly front and side photos! Be good to have them to look at if I ever get tempted to fall off the wagon, and will force myself to do it weekly. Have had to hide them in a folder on my phone Grin

MyNameIsKenAdams · 28/12/2013 19:43

Am on phone so cant cut and paste.

MyNameIsKenAdams gemmbopastie on MFP start weight 13st1, Current weight 12st13, target weight 9st3 (52lb off start weight), MFP, general healthy eating & Zumba class.

WoodBurnerBabe · 28/12/2013 19:50

I can't cut and paste either - but am happy to put together a google docs spreadsheet if anyone wants? Will have to wait until baby nap time, or lunch break at work.

WoodBurnerBabe start weight 14st2lbs, current weight 14st2lbs, target weight 10st6lbs (which is 52lbs), using 5:2 and shit loads of exercise...

stoopstofolly · 28/12/2013 19:59

How do I join in? I've 3 stone to lose and am desperately depressed about it. I'm embarrassed about how I've key myself go so am keeping quiet about the diet- it would be great to share. What's MFP?

justonemorecake · 28/12/2013 20:00

I'll attempt to copy and paste those so far:

MotherGirth: start weight 12st 4lbs; current weight 12st 4lbs; target weight 8st 8lbs (52lbs). 5:2 and MFP. Spinning and C25k.

MyNameIsKenAdams gemmbopastie on MFP start weight 13st1, Current weight 12st13, target weight 9st3 (52lb off start weight), MFP, general healthy eating & Zumba class.

WoodBurnerBabe start weight 14st2lbs, current weight 14st2lbs, target weight 10st6lbs (which is 52lbs), using 5:2 and shit loads of exercise...

Justonemorecake: start weight 16st6lbs, current weight 16st6lbs, target weight 10st7lbs, using mfp, 7 minute workout and couch to 5k

WoodBurnerBabe · 28/12/2013 20:02

MFP is myfitnesspal - if you have an iPhone there is an app, otherwise you can use the website.

And you've joined just by posting! Welcome and good luck with the weightloss :-)

Have a read of the thread and see what tictacs other people are using for their weight loss strategy. 1lb a week seems really achievable from the posts above, hopefully this is our year :-)

darwiniandreams · 28/12/2013 20:04

darwiniandreams start weight 15st 4, current weight 15st 4, target weight 10st - 10st 7 but will be happy for now to get to 11st 7 after losing the 52lbs.

My main weaknesses atm are portion sizes (too late at night) v. little exercise and too much fizzy drinks.

I will use mfp sw and keep checking back with mn to give me a swift kick up the arse when needed. Blush

PuggyMum · 28/12/2013 20:05

Well crisis kind of averted. Got my friends 13 yo dd staying and I suggested a dominos! But she said she fancied egg chips and beans! Which isn't ideal but without the ketchup and bread with an inch of butter it could have been worse.

I've got fil coming tomorrow and he's a hearty food kind of guy. I'm planning menus for the week but New Year's Day will be our family Xmas lunch. By next Sunday the house will be free from Xmas goodies!

darwiniandreams · 28/12/2013 20:06

My weigh in will be Wednesday at sw

CecyHall · 28/12/2013 20:14

I think I've added all I can see on MFP but I'm Cecyhall on there if I've missed you!

ricericebaby · 28/12/2013 20:15

Will weigh in on Monday to get my proper starting weight. Can only weigh in at Boots as I don't have scales and will weigh every Monday from then. I know I was 13st 9lbs 2 weeks ago so I'm hoping for lower than that on Monday.... Seriously doubting it though with the Christmas scoffing!
