Everyone geared up for another good week? Nothing like some good losses to gee everyone up ...

Oh yes, and thank you for the bling, WWB! For some reason the computer I'm on at work couldn't see the applause, but I'll accept it gracefully anyway. I did like suejonez's comment yesterday that if she continues to lose a pound a week, by Christmas she'll have lost 4.5 stone. It feels like an achievable target, doesn't it.

WigWamBam · 22/06/2006 11:38

It does feel achievable when you put it that way, doesn't it. A pound a week doesn't sound like much but it doesn't half mount up.

OP posts:
coppertop · 22/06/2006 12:57

Congratulations to suejonez and Jackie.

I'd love to lose a pound each week.

Good luck everyone.

suejonez · 22/06/2006 13:14

Ooh, ooh, ooh - I got a crown

Thats 64.5lbs in total between us all so far - that 4.5 stone! And that doesn't count some of those who weigh at a different time.

suejonez · 22/06/2006 13:17

And I didn't say a pound every week Coppertop, I said "average" a pound a week, which I think you have, haven't you? Over six weeks?

If we were all disciplined enough with food (and life) to lose a pound consistently every week, I suspect we'd be one of the skinny minnies who moan when they put on half an ounce and their size ten jeans are a little hard to do up

schneebly · 22/06/2006 13:19

We are bloody marvelous aren't we!!? Well done to sue and jackie - well deserved crowns methinks! I haven't had a great start this week - actually it has been awful! I have eaten chinese, chocolate, crisps, digestive biscuits...the list gfoes on and on but I did have salad for my dinner last night lol! I need to get a grip - I always do this, have a little bit of success and then start to go off the rails. Give me a stern talking to someone?

coppertop · 22/06/2006 13:26

I swear if I ever manage to squeeze my backside into a pair of size 10 jeans I shall probably change my name by deed-poll to Skinny Minny.

4.5st between us is bloody fantastic! Yep, I could definitely settle for an average of a pound a week.

suejonez · 22/06/2006 13:29

Schneebly, young lady, don't you dare ruin all that hard work with some pathetic crap thats bad for you and will make you feel bad once you've eaten it. You'll be letting youself down and I know you're made of stronger stuff. So buck your ideas up missy and get a grip.

(Is that OK?)

hub2dee · 22/06/2006 13:32

No real surprise - this AM's WW revealed a 'stayed the same'... was not quite so angelic this last week.

The only thing to do when you go off the rails is get right back on, schneebles. That or we all find your address and then organise a tickle rota till you are a blubbering (but smiley) wreck, thin from struggling against the combined brite force of MN's finest...

JackieNo · 22/06/2006 13:36

Know what you mean, Schneebly - it's easy to get complacent: I can feel myself getting that way, and thinking that I want to eat all sorts of things that are bad for me, whereas for the past few weeks I haven't really craved anything. TBH the real yardstick for me is what size I am, so I'm now aiming to get into a size 18 (started as a 22 going on 24, currently I think somewhere around a generous 20, but not really sure), then I'll work downwards from there. I suspect that if I ever get to a 14 I'll be relatively happy. Does that sound achievable and not too unrealistic? I'm also not really telling people in RL about my weight loss attempt. Only told DH and one friend. Partly because I don't want to seem obsessed by it () and partly because I don't want to talk about it in front of DS and (especially) DD. Want them to have a healthy attitude to food.

hub2dee · 22/06/2006 13:39

Nice stone by the way, JackieNo. Yellow diamonds, huh... champagne taste has our wwb.

suejonez · 22/06/2006 13:41

I'm happy that nobody seems to realise in RL that I'm on a diet (apart from my mum), it does stop the "oh go on treat yourself" saboteurs. It will aslo mean when they suddenly realise I'm 10 stone lighter they will be able to gasp and say "why, Miss Jones, you're.......beautiful"

WigWamBam · 22/06/2006 13:42

Schneebly, you are half a pound away from losing a stone. That's a brilliant amount - go and weigh some tins from the cupboard until you get to 13.5lb, see how much that really weighs ... go on, do it. Feel how heavy it is ... it's a huge amount, and it's weight you don't want to put back on again. Do you really want to start sabotaging yourself now?

I've done that in the past too - this silly sabotaging of the diet when you start to see some results. I don't know whether it's because losing weight is a frightening thing sometimes - it seems easier just to stay as you are ... but none of us are going to do that this time. Are we? OK, so my menacing voice isn't too convincing but you know what I'm saying. You really don't want to lose any of this weight twice, do you?

Come on, girl - half a pound and you'll have lost a stone. It's bloody good going.

OP posts:
suejonez · 22/06/2006 13:43

I do a really good scary voice (finance director y'see), would you like me to shout down the phone at you? [hopeful emoticon]

hub2dee · 22/06/2006 13:43

I am going to go weigh some heavy crap till I get to a stone right now, wwb...

JackieNo · 22/06/2006 13:46

Hope you're buying yourself some heavy framed glasses too suejonez, and wearing your hair in a bun, so you can take off the glasses, shake out your hair, for the full 'Why...you're beautiful, Miss Jonez' effect.

schneebly · 22/06/2006 13:47

Thanks you guys! You talk so much sense. I dont know why I do it - I think if I can keep going and lost 1.5 stone I might actually believe that I can do it.

suejonez · 22/06/2006 13:50

Excellent idea - will do the charity shops this weekend. Actually showing some cleavage today (board meeting - hoping to distract them from the figures), must stop that - it will give the game away.

coppertop · 22/06/2006 13:52

I shall now forevermore think of suejonez as Frances Delatour in Rising Damp. "Oooh Miss Jones!"

I'm showing my age now.

hub2dee · 22/06/2006 13:57

OK. We have a big ceramic fruit bowl in the kitchen. Hand thrown. Heavy. In it is a watermelon together with a bunch of nanas, pears, nectarines, lemons, kiwis, apples and one grapefruit. It weighs in at around 6 kilos which is 6.7 kilos which is about 15 pounds, more or less what us stone-heads have lost (and you are damned close, Scneebly).

I then got a pile of tins down and weighed them... I needed 13 tins to get up to around 1 stone. Put them in a placcy bag... that is DAMNED heavy. I couldn't hold it stretched out for more than a few seconds.

That was previously bearing down on our spine and knees and it's now gone, hopefully forever...

I ate a teacake to celebrate (old habits die hard, hey...) LOL.

JackieNo · 22/06/2006 13:57

Coppertop. Is the quote from 'The Boyfriend'? Or am I misremembering?

JackieNo · 22/06/2006 13:58

Wow, hub2dee. Puts it into perspective.

schneebly · 22/06/2006 14:03

at 13 tins!

WigWamBam · 22/06/2006 14:08

It works, doesn't it - actually holding the amount you've lost in your hand really does hammer home just how much it takes to shift that weight. Schneebly, have you tried it? As Hub says, what you've lost is about 13 tins of soup ... you'd struggle to carry that around with you, yet you were carrying it around every day. And now it's gone.

Even half a stone is 6 or 7 cans - it's no mean feat, really.

Coppertop, it was Miss Jones and Rigsby I was thinking of as well ...

OP posts:
hub2dee · 22/06/2006 14:10

Yep sireee, Ms. Schneebly... are you at home ? Go and raid your cupboard and see how many tins you can find...Count 12 or so out and shove them in a bag. Carry it around for 60 seconds....

Still reckon it's no big deal yet ???
