The 'Avoid The Quiche' Quiche- Part 2!!!

HenriettaPye · 26/08/2013 19:53

Hi all!! (waves!)

Cant believe our last thread filled up so quickly!

For those of you who don't know us, the 'Avoid the Quiche' Quiche is a group of people who all want to lose a substantial amount of weight (no coming on here complaining about the half a stone you desperately need to lose, thanks very much!) We all have different personal goals and reasons for wanting to lose weight, whether it be for a special holiday coming up, to aid fertility or to be healthier. This thread is a place to share your highs and lows, talk to like minded people, get encouragement and offer support to others when they need it!

Official weigh in day is Wednesday- Slimmer of the week will get a virtual bunch of flowers, woohoo!! Flowers

I personally am aiming to lose 6 stone. It wont be easy but i've got a great bunch of ladies behind me keeping me focused and for that i'm very grateful! Smile

Well done everyone, and I agree, I couldn't do it without you all.

I am not sure how well I am going to be able to do this week; I am away at a conference overnight, with dinner, breakfast and lunch provided, so little to no control over what I eat. Well do my best to keep on track though.

clarinetV2 · 12/09/2013 07:57

Well done, TiredNursery both on your weight loss milestone and on your healthy snack last night. Great news!

Reastie · 12/09/2013 08:05

Birding you can always have the dress altered.

Excellent summary of losses again hen Thanks . Thread really helps keep you on target doesn't it. Some amazing losses from people here working really hard.

YellowCanary1 · 12/09/2013 09:09

Well done everyone, really, really great losses!

Wow I got slimmer of the week - I am so proud! Grin
My Secret - breast feed a very hungry baby boy who is going through a growth spurt!!

I've done slimming world and WW and neither ever worked for me. This thread has worked for me. Whenever I feel the need to go off the rails I come here instead or log into MFP. I've tried losing weight countless times and for some reason this time it is really working, so I can but only put it down to the motivational support received from all you lovely ladies! Thanks

LayMizzRarb · 12/09/2013 09:59

Nice one Tirednursey! Which diet are you doing?

LayMizzRarb · 12/09/2013 10:03

Birding - you CAN and you WILL do this. Dresses can be altered Smile
We want to see a wedding photograph!

BirdingWidow · 12/09/2013 11:11

I am not sure to what extent dresses with structured bodices can be altered but i am sure they can a bit - I will ask when I find THE dress. The wedding isn't till may - I hope we will all still be in touch and supporting each other by then. If so I'll happily post a pic (even if I don't reach my goal I will still look better than normal).

In other matters, MFP suggested yesterday that I might like to revise my goals. I assumed it would just lower my goal weight (can't remover what I put in anyway) so I said yes. And now, without any further consultation or explanation, my calorie allowance has been cut from 1300 to 1200. I am considering asserting myself and restoring those 2 Jaffa cakes but before I do, for those of you who are calorie counting, what are you aiming for each day, not counting exercise?

clarinetV2 · 12/09/2013 12:16

That sounds quite low, Birding. May I ask what your current weight is? I'm aiming for 1200 a day average now, and have been since I hit about 10 and a half stone, but earlier on I was a bit higher than that. If I'm remembering rightly, when I started off (just over 15 stone) I was aiming for about 1400 a day average not counting the odd chocolate-related fall off the wagon and I think I would have been hungry and miserable trying to cut down any further any faster.

Really, really looking forward to seeing you in that wedding dress next spring.

Reastie · 12/09/2013 12:43

That must've been a bit of a shock birding ! I think it works on the basis the less you weigh, the less your body needs. My current calorie goal on MFP is 1495 (or something like that). I'm around 11 1/5 stone and 5"6. It was more like 1900 initially I think. Tbh I just aim for 1500 - 2000 kcals a day (nearer 1500 if I can but I don't stress too much if it isn't) and do some exercise when I can and I seem to have lost slow but steadily. Have you inputted to MFP how often/much exercise you plan to do every week? That makes a difference to your calorie allowance on a daily basis too. To me 1200 doesn't seem very much at all. I try to think about it as this has to be a change in lifestyle/attitudes to keep for life, so don't stress about 1200 a day if it's not sustainable (although I realise your goals might be slightly different with the wedding coming up. I MUST see pics next spring btw!).

MissElodie · 12/09/2013 13:04

birding I'm a little too scared about admitting my calories allowance as everyone else's diary I have seen is lower than mine and I don't want to feel like a fraud who is still eating loads and keeping within goal even though I do still go over because of my high allowance Blush.

I started my allowance at 1800 and I am going to lower it 50 calories for every half stone I lose. My goal is to lose 6 stone (although I do need to lose probably 7.5 stones to be a 'healthy weight) so I should be on 1200 by then. When I attended a slimming club many moons ago I seem to recall that the more you had to lose the higher number of calories you could have as I never made sense to me at first that you could eat more if you had more weight to lose. I can't remember what MFP recommended I should have (maybe about 1300?) but I told it where to go overrode it and put my own allowance in. I think I would find it quite restrictive to cut down my calorie allowance too much at the beginning.

That's my plan but I will cut my allowance down if I'm finding its not working. I'm hoping by doing it this way though that I will stick to it long term and I know that it will probably take me longer to lose the weight doing it this way but hopefully it means I won't give up!

I still plan to be around in May so looking forward to seeing your photos! Smile

LayMizzRarb · 12/09/2013 14:33

Of course we will all still be here next May, supporting each other!
I think the majority of us have, over the course of this thread , had a bad week, whether it be eating badly, or feeling down. Yet we have all come back because on his thread you are not judged because we ALL understand the bumps in the road on a weight loss journey.
If I see anyone missing I will have a good mind to PM them!

Isthiscorrect · 12/09/2013 14:34

Yes yes Im here. Sorry I didnt post yesterday, my firend is having a very hard time and between work and that it slipped my mind but yay another 2 off ;-) To be honest I havent been very good this week but my mind has been on it, so I have eaten less than I would have done previously but still more than I should and eaten more healthily and drunk less alcohol so whilst not perfect I have been better. So all in all I'm very happy.

Some great weight losses in there. Well done everyone and wow there are some really inspirational and motivating weight loss examples here.

Oh yes and my stomach is getting smaller as I do get full up sooner. As somebody said before, new dress for everyone for Christmas.

phantomhairpuller · 12/09/2013 15:36

Afternoon all Grin

I slipped up last night- demolished a rather large slice of fruit cake after I got back from swimming Blush

So to make up for it I've shredded and done C25K today. Took the dog on my run with me- I'm not sure she likes me any more Wink she provided a lovely bit of added resistance for the last 3 runs and the walk home. Evidently she's as unfit as her owner Wink

Hope everyone is having a good day Grin

BirdingWidow · 12/09/2013 16:50

Thanks for the calorie info everyone.

I am 5ft5 and 14st 1.5lb at the mo. I was aiming for 1300 calories a day and finding it okay to stick to, with the proviso that I knew I would have odd days where I would go over (last weekend's wedding, for example, or today when I had another tasting with a wedding caterer and hence a 3 course lunch). By sticking to 1300 most days and going over when it was truly worth it for a social event (and not just because I wanted a large bar of G&B's sea salt milk chocolate - heaven!) it has been working out okay and still allowing me a bit of a life. I should add that with the baby I don't go out a lot so this is not a regular excuse! Also I am not drinking a lot when I do go out because that was really adding up.

But 1200 seems appreciably harder than 1300. I have no idea what MFP is basing it on but I don't really do any exercise so there's no allowance made for that. Some days I walk a fair way but I just keep that effort in the bank for bad days. I must find an exercise I like but I am 38 and haven't found one yet!

However, in an effort to get my waist back i have bought.... a hula hoop! I used to be reeeeeally good at it and could keep a hoop up for over 2 hours without it touching the ground. Okay, so I was 8 years old at the time but still... Now I can't do it at all - where has my wiggle gone? I will keep trying when DP isn't watching and laughing

YellowCanary1 · 12/09/2013 17:55

Interesting discussion re calories. My MFP allowance is 1220, most days I can stick to it as I eat a lot of vegetables. I'm breast feeding as well though so do give myself some flexibility. I did check with midwife re calories before starting to diet though.

BirdingWidow · 12/09/2013 18:36

Blimey Yellow, no wonder the weight is falling off you!

cq · 12/09/2013 19:10

Hi Birding, I'm a similar size & weight to you - I'm 5'4 and weigh 200.8 lbs which is just over 14st 4lbs. (I lived in the USA for a while so am now a convert to pounds - can't wait to get below that magic 200)

MFP gives me a 1200 allowance a day too, but because I walk the dogs every day without fail, this usually earns me more calories. Someone said here, ages ago, that they think the MFP allowances for some activities are too generous, and I agree - but I'm grateful for them most days!

I first registered on MFP over a year ago, and I can't remember what parameters I set but I know I was doing a lot more running then so maybe it gave me a lower starting allowance knowing that I'd be earning more through exercise, if that makes sense.

Anyway, most days I can manage it fine if I'm careful, and on the days that I don't, I try not to beat myself up too much - I consider this a lifestyle change NOT a diet. Diets fail. I cannot afford to continue putting this burden on my joints, heart and lungs.

MiaWallace · 12/09/2013 19:28

My allowance on MFP is 1200. I'm 5'2 and now weigh 14st 8lb.

My Ki Fit shows that I normally earn an additional 400 calories from exercise a day but I rarely eat my exercise calories and stick to 1200.

I'm a bit shocked that my weight loss hasn't been greater. I've had a couple of slip up days but generally I have stuck pretty well to it for the last 5 weeks

Weight loss so far
week 1 - 6lb
week 2 - STS
week 3 - 2lb
week 4 - 2lb
week 5 - 1lb

Feel like I deserve a greater loss considering I'm still rather big and eating very few calories. Although it is a healthy weight loss rate.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/09/2013 19:39

Mia - if your net calorie intake is only 800, your 1200 minus your 400 exercise then your body could be heading into starvation mode which might be why your loss has really slowed?

MiaWallace · 12/09/2013 19:49

That's what I'm starting to think Ali. I'm nervous about increasing my calories now though just in case I put back on what I've lost. Arggh don't know what to do!

cq · 12/09/2013 20:31

Mia - sounds like you've hit a plateau - try doing something really different this week. So if you swim loads - is that you or someone else? - too tired to scroll back up this thread! - maybe try cycling this week, or doing some serious weights at the gym, or climbing a mountain. Give the swimming a rest for a week. And do make sure you're eating enough to fuel the work you do.

Our bodies get very good at doing what they need to do, so if you keep on doing the same things, the impact becomes less and less. (Think how many of us carry our children around for hours on end - we should be stick thin!) When you shock your body, change happens.

Tomorrow I'm going to run up a hill. Twelve times. Shock

I learned this stuff at a residential boot camp I went on last November - it was brilliant, and I learned loads, but then I came home and somehow just ate my way through that long long cold winter. Sad

LegoAcupuncture · 12/09/2013 20:40

Evening everyone.

Unsure how many calories I'm consuming, doing WW and allowed 36 points a day. I have tried calorie counting in the past but struggle with it. Well done to anyone who does it, I really couldn't cope with all the weighing etc.

I've been so good today, even walked past the huge packets of peanut M&Ms that Tesco had on special for £1.50. Normally I'd buy a packet and sit eating them like they were popcorn. Have eaten half a pun et of gapes instead.

BirdingWidow · 12/09/2013 20:46

cq, you are my quiche twin! I only got through the 200 barrier a couple of weeks ago, it'll be your turn soon. And it will feel good.

I think i will aim for 1200 but allow myself to go over from time to time, as long as it is a worthwhile event and not just emotional / boredom eating. No more than once a week and not silly. Hopefully that will keep my metabolism on its toes too.

I also need to exercise, as much for diet motivation as anything. I'll start with some dogless walking.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/09/2013 21:19

Mia it is hard isn't it? I think that is good advice from cq, to change things around a bit. Maybe try increasing the exercise intensity and eating at least some of your exercise calories?

I know everyone is trying different things on here - I've decided to give the 5:2 a go. Two successful fast days completed this week and I'm feeling really positive about it. :)

LayMizzRarb · 12/09/2013 22:24

Lego, I'm doing WW too. I have 41 pt allowance, but rarely use it all. Normally have mid thirties. I only ever used some pts from the weekly once. One thing I do have every evening is a Dime bar! I nibble it really slowly and it lasts about 30 minutes . And for 4 points. Another treat is a meringue nest filled with a WW yoghurt and fruit for 2 points. And for a savoury treat, walkers french fries are 2 pts a bag!
