Hi all!! (waves!)

Cant believe our last thread filled up so quickly!

For those of you who don't know us, the 'Avoid the Quiche' Quiche is a group of people who all want to lose a substantial amount of weight (no coming on here complaining about the half a stone you desperately need to lose, thanks very much!) We all have different personal goals and reasons for wanting to lose weight, whether it be for a special holiday coming up, to aid fertility or to be healthier. This thread is a place to share your highs and lows, talk to like minded people, get encouragement and offer support to others when they need it!

Official weigh in day is Wednesday- Slimmer of the week will get a virtual bunch of flowers, woohoo!! Flowers

I personally am aiming to lose 6 stone. It wont be easy but i've got a great bunch of ladies behind me keeping me focused and for that i'm very grateful! Smile

Hi all, thanks for the shiny new thread Henrietta and the nice intro - can't believe we are on a second thread already!!

Welcome to the newbies from the end of the last thread Smile

random I am like you hiding behind my pram! I hate it if I have to go out and walk on my own, just a few months ago I had a dentist appt and my DP was off work so could look after DD but I still insisted on talking her with me as I feel I'm not as 'on show' if I am pushing the pram!

Henrietta yes I seem to get the need to binge pre-period - its not good! And I know what you been about holding back in the bedroom department. I have got so many hang ups, my DP hasn't seen me naked and I really think he would just be so turned off by it urgh Blush.

Actually that's my daily inspiration for today too - I know being more confident and happy in myself will help to have a positive impact on my relationship with DP, and it would be nice to feel like he fancies me again Smile

Those who aren't just starting out and have already lost a bit of weight - how long has it taken you so far?

I am planning on taking it quite slow and am aiming for 1 - 2lb weight loss per week. I've written down the dates that I hope to achieve each half stone weight loss as my targets. Its going to take me a loooong time but I WILL get there!!

MissElodie, I've been going for a little more than a year now - I started in August 2012 and as of last week's weigh-in, it's four more pounds till I hit my final target. I did exactly what you're planning on doing, and set half-stone targets all along the way.

Those of you who get the pre-period need to binge, just you wait until you're menopausal... There are some days when if that small boy we've just collectively lost came near me, I would eat him, trainers and all!

Afternoon all. It's really lovely to have so many people to chat to here, and to hear all your different stories.

I think if I take it slowly it will take me almost 2 years to lose the lot Shock but I am hoping to do it a bit quicker than that, or at least to be above the 1-2lb per week average for the first few stone, get down to a slightly more normal level of overweight relatively quickly, then I will be ok with the weight loss slowing down for the end part. Is it too ambitious to hope to lose 3 stone by Christmas? Maybe not if I manage to keep going the way I have started - I have swum another 2.5km this morning, and in 10 mins less than I did it on Sunday (took 1hr20 today), so that is 9.5km in a week. I've also been pretty good with my food, so I am hoping for good news on the scales tomorrow.

clarinetV2 · 27/08/2013 13:23

Hmmm, Lorelai, if my Maths is correct, 3 stone in four months is very slightly over 10 pounds a month, about 2.5 pounds a week. Which is a lot, but probably do-able in the early days, I think.

Are you the kind of person who works best to really challenging targets and is fairly philosophical if you don't quite hit them, or the sort of person who needs securely achievable targets which you will probably exceed? I'm the latter - if I'd missed any targets along the way I would have felt downcast and de-motivated, so I deliberately went for targets that were easier to get - and mostly exceeded them which made me feel great and was motivating. Horses for courses. If you want a challenging target, then go for the 3 stone by Christmas. It's not out of the realms of possibility, and if it would give you motivation and buzz, go for it! Otherwise, if you want a more easily achievable target which you will probably exceed for the first few months at least, how about half a stone a month?

Me and DS (3) are having a cuddle on the sofa while baby is in bed as he's loaded with the cold. He's playing on the ipad with his head resting on me and I'm mumsnetting. I just read clarinets comment about eating a small boy and laughed out loud and DS said 'oh mummy I just love it when you laugh and your tummy jiggles up and down!' ConfusedConfused

Henrietta - reminds me of DD2 (2.9) who a couple of weeks ago was prodding my bingo wings upper arm and saying 'it's all squishy' - thanks kid :)

clarinet - I think I need to set big targets to avoid becoming demotivated - if I tell myself it is only realistic to lose it slowly then I won't see the point in carrying on. Hopefully I will have a big loss this week and a decent one next week, meaning that I can lose the first stone in a month, then 2 stone in 3 months is a bit more realistic. Does that make sense?

Report
clarinetV2 · 27/08/2013 13:54

Yup, makes total sense, Lorelai. Good luck with tomorrow's weigh-in, and here's to three stone by Christmas Wine (virtual wine being calorie-free, you understand!)

I want to have lost another stone by Christmas taking me to 3 in total. Although I think that's going to be a big ask the way things are stagnating

Hey all! I had an awful night with baby he is cutting his first tooth and was up pretty much all night. It was a huge blow to the system considering he has slept 6.30-7 or 8 every single night sine he was 8wks old. Hoping tonight is better.
Its a fast day for me here, my plan is 3 fast days a week then the rest of the days 1200cals. I have just the one meal on a fast day usually at 5 but I've been out since early taking the children on the train and I've resisted all snacks.
My daily inspiration is to be able to go the hair dressers and not cringe when in front of the mirror.

Wow you ladies are inspirational and so motivated Smile This is only my second post and I have managed to do some of the things suggested before. Firstly I went and talked to a friend, I've never spoken about my weight before and she pulled open her drawer and out came loads of WW books. So that was a great start. She also let me get weighed on her very wizzy high tech scales and I weighed (gulp) 17.53. So Im not even sure how much to realistically lose but I'm going to say 6st, leaving me at 11 and 1/2. My water intake has been upped massively, I never drank water before but its helping a lot (I know its only been two days but we must start somewhere, sure did make me pee a lot 3 times in one tv programme last night! She also helped me with some recipes, so thats good.
My thought for today is I really want me knees to stop paining me so much.

I have had trouble with my knees since I was 15, since I have lost weight I have had hardly any trouble with them at all. Hopefully it helps you in the same way!

Grin clarinet, you made me snort and woke the cat on my knee. He isn't impressed.

My nspiation for today, I want o be able to walk around the supermarket and OT feel people are watching what I'm putting in or what I'm looking at.

Hello all, old & new! Weigh-in tomorrow already?

I need to lose my son Wink. He weighs 4.5 stones, so that would more than do me although I would still be in the overweight category. But I do believe that lots of diets fail because people aim for too low a weight - we're not all destined to be 8-10s.

My daily inspiration is I would like to be able to choose and wear clothes because I love them, not because they just fit and (supposedly) cover my worst bits.

clarinetV2 · 27/08/2013 17:44

Apologies to your cat, Lego, and I feel exactly the same in supermarkets!

randomwhistle, sorry if this is over-stepping the mark, but I'm worried that your overall calorie intake might not be enough. As I understand it, if you go substantially under 1200 calories a day, your body goes into starvation mode and starts disproportionately burning lean muscle instead of fat, because it thinks it needs to conserve fat to survive. Or something like that. And as muscle burns calories faster, in the long run you end up losing less. I might not have the science exactly right, but 3 days on 500ish assuming that's what you mean by fasting, and the rest on 1200 really does seem very low. Quite apart from anything else, I'm not convinced you'll get all the nutrients you need in so little food, and you could end up feeling ill and giving up. If 3 days of fasting works for you, might it be safer to increase calories on the non-fast days to something approaching the amount you actually burn on those days? Or maybe seek medical advice if you're doing something which (to me at least) sounds rather drastic.

Apologies if I'm coming across as interfering. I certainly don't mean to be, but I'm concerned about your well-being.

So glad you said that Clarinet. It is what I was thinking and then I thought maybe I am not the right person to be giving out diet advice. You are though, you are a lot further down the road iyswim.

Clarinet thanks for the concern, but honestly I'm fine and this is really working for me. I feel very positive and better than I have in a long time. On a whole I'm healthy. I'm a strict vegetarian, non smoker, never drink alcohol. I just went overboard with coke and chocolate. Thanks for caring about my well being but I do feel fine.

Hi All,
The 'oldies' on this post will remember I mentioned my DH's grandpa died a few weeks ago. Well today was the funeral and it was a lovely but very emotional day. We all live very close and spent a lot of time with each other so it was a tough day saying goodbye and supporting DH and my in-laws. We left ds1 with my parents but took ds2 as he is only 12 weeks and ebf. He of course started screaming during the first song but quietened as soon as I got into the porch of the church so I watched the service from there. Grandpa was a real pillar of the local community and the place was packed. Smile
I ended up eating not too brilliantly at the memorial after as I wasn't really thinking about food, though didn't have too much so hopefully no lasting damage. Have to say calorie counting wasn't the first thing on my mind! Will try and calculate the calories but it will be pure guess work!! Have to say I really feel like a glass of wine tonight though (only small though as bf!)!!!

LegoAcupuncture · 27/08/2013 19:01

Ah Yellow, don't worry about the calories today, I'm sure the calorie gods will let you off just this once. Glad it all went well x

Really looking forward to weigh in tomorrow! I am 2.5 off losing a whole stone. I also started on 1 aug, so would love to lose that magic stone in a month.
Looking ahead to having lost two stones. When I have reached that goal, I am having my hair cut and coloured, for the first time in about 5 years. I used to take really good care of my hair, but as I put more weight on, I stopped going to the hairdresser (for one, scared of breaking the chair!)
I'm really going to push myself for the next stone.
What other treats are we all planning to mark a goal?

MiaWallace · 27/08/2013 22:23

YellowCanary I hope you treated yourself to that glass of wine. Some days it is needed.

LayMizzRarb I will do the same as you. Once I have lost 2 stone I will get my hair coloured and cut short.

I am exhausted after an eight mile walk today. Hoping it has repaired some of the damage done with all the drinking on the camping trip.

I will be devastated if I stay the same for a second week.
