Hi all!! (waves!)

Cant believe our last thread filled up so quickly!

For those of you who don't know us, the 'Avoid the Quiche' Quiche is a group of people who all want to lose a substantial amount of weight (no coming on here complaining about the half a stone you desperately need to lose, thanks very much!) We all have different personal goals and reasons for wanting to lose weight, whether it be for a special holiday coming up, to aid fertility or to be healthier. This thread is a place to share your highs and lows, talk to like minded people, get encouragement and offer support to others when they need it!

Official weigh in day is Wednesday- Slimmer of the week will get a virtual bunch of flowers, woohoo!! Flowers

I personally am aiming to lose 6 stone. It wont be easy but i've got a great bunch of ladies behind me keeping me focused and for that i'm very grateful! Smile

Hi everyone, I'm new here but have followed both freds. I've been on my own personal weight loss journey and have lost 30lbs since June.

For the last few days I have been self sabotaging and even though I know I'm doing it I just seem powerless to stop it!

So I've summoned up the courage to post in the hope that you lovely inspirational amazing ladies can help put me back on track.

I'm 5ft 4 starting weight of 14stone 1, current weight 11stone 13. So far I have just cut out snacks completely. (Except the last few days) drank lots and lots of water, reduced my carbs a lot and upped my veg intake. I run 3 times a week amd am still breastfeeding ds2. It was working, so why I'm now sabotaging I don't know! Angry it could be to do with sleep deprivation. yes that's your fault, non sleeping non napping ds2

As/when I plateaue I am thinking of trying the 5:2.

I hope I can get back on track and help support the other quiche members with their own journeys.

(Sorry that was long!)

cq · 12/09/2013 23:28

Welcome IsThatTrue - 30lbs since June is fantastic - I make that over 15% of your starting weight gone.

Sleep deprivation is a terrible thing and will drive you to drink and drugs, never mind a little overeating Smile

Just be kind to yourself, but keep at the back of your mind how hard you have worked for every single pound lost. I'm sure all your good habits since June have by now become well entrenched so hopefully will not be harmed by a few days of indulgence. Even skinny people go on holiday and stuff their faces!

I hope you can find the support you need among us here - you are certainly an inspiration. I think the changes you made are really sensible and sustainable, and clearly are working for you. I don't think I could do the 5:2 thing, although I am tempted to give it a try. I think it might just make me obsess about food Hmm

BirdingWidow · 13/09/2013 05:51

Welcome IsThatTrue. When you started you were pretty much where cq and I are now and you have done brilliantly - at 11st13 I would not be a skinny Minnie but I would look bloomin' great compared to now so I hope you are enjoying your progress so far.

I started at over 15 st back in the spring and lost about 10 lb but then stopped for a bit: I went on holiday and then went through a rather nasty redundancy process while on mat leave, with a non-sleeping DS in tow too. I ate a lot of chocolate for a couple of months, put on a few lbs and then got back on the case when I felt better and when this thread came along to focus and encourage me. I agree with cq about sleep deprivation, it messes with your head and motivation. Anyway, my DS is now sleeping much better at night though he does still get up at 5am every day... I don't enjoy that a whole lot but it is a vast improvement on waking every 2 hours for 40 mins each time!

If you are really tired you might need a bit of a break and as long as you don't go mad you won't undo all your good work. Stick around on this thread for encouragement and to motivate the rest of us who dream of getting to the 11s - we can all do it!

MiaWallace · 13/09/2013 06:16

Thanks for the advice. I will try switching things around and see what happens.

Welcome IsThatTrue. You have made fantastic progress already. Keep posting and I'm sure it will help you gain back some of your motivation.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 13/09/2013 06:38

Welcome IsThatTrue. 30lbs in three months is amazing!

Lorelai · 13/09/2013 07:15

Welcome Isthattrue. I know what you mean about self sabotaging, I have done that in the past more times than I care to remember. Well done for posting here though, sometimes just telling other people what your plans are is enough for you to make them happen.

TiredNursey · 13/09/2013 07:26

Morning Everyone.
I am doing the Slimming World plan. It works for me. (When I follow it!)
I am not going to classes though as the "therapy" seemed mostly about finding ways to "cheat" like making cakes from couscous, and learning what is the syn value of the newest packet of processed food. I don't really eat processed food, apart from bread (which I am avoiding these days)
To be honest, I have found this thread much more helpful than any of those classes.

Inspired by those folks who climb mountains and do 5k runs, I have walked to work all week. I know it doesn't sound like much, but its 15 mins each way and its 30mins more a day than I have been doing for the last 4 yrs or so. (When I first started having foot problems)
I had my (hopefully) final op in May and although I still have pain when I walk, things are much easier. I had been putting off the walk to work as I was really nervous of doing it and then not being able stand on my feet once I got there but fingers crossed, its going ok.

I have a friend staying with me at the moment and last night she did Pizza for her and the kids, and saved me some. I was so tempted but I knew if I started, that I would not stop there. I was starving, and knew that the (fairly healthy thin crust Pizza) pizza would lead me to bread etc.
I did a nice healthy tasty stir fry with noodles.
Although this morning I am thinking I was probably being silly. I just don't trust myself not to binge though. Not yet, with another 100lbs to go..

TiredNursey · 13/09/2013 07:27

And well done everyone for the weekly losses and mainitainers.

Ah Self sabotage. I am also in that party. And often....

YellowCanary1 · 13/09/2013 08:36

Welcome isthattrue, we sound like we're in the same boat. I've been trying to lose weight since having ds2 in june and sleep deprivation and bf can really effect things! When ds2 is bf a lot I get SOOOO hungry! I still have snacks but have carrots and cucumber readily available to reach for instead. I find raw carrots the best to fill up a gap. I've also followed a similar diet to you of lots of veg, less carbs and running and so far its really worked with 3 stone gone. I'm currently 13 stone though I'm 5foot 9ins so aiming for 12stone to be 'healthy' bmi and 11.7 stone as my ideal.

On another note got my first 5k race tonight, aiming for under 35mins. Eeeeekkkkk!

TiredNursey · 13/09/2013 09:07

Ooh canary! Good luck. I'm 5'9 too and also aiming for 11st 7. Am a long way off though... still hopefully this time next year....

Lorelai · 13/09/2013 09:24

TiredNursery, I am doing SW too, but I do stay to the classes - ours seems to be more about celebrating acheivements and boosting morale, I know what you mean about the 'cheats' though - that is one reason I am doing SW this time rather than WW, as I found that with WW I didn't really change the way I ate, I just found ways to do it for less points, which meant it was way too easy to change back when I fell off the wagon. I am eating so much better now than when I have done WW in the past, and losing more weight too. I also know what you mean about binges - I would rather avoid things like chocolate completely rather than allow myself a little bit as for me it is a very slippery slope.

IsThatTrue · 13/09/2013 09:28

Thanks for the lovely welcome!

Good luck with your race yellow I do a 5k parkrun each sat morning and the last few weeks I've managed to go sub 30 minutes. I have a 10k race on Sunday morning and would really like to come in under 60minutes. So I'm sorting my eating out today, I can't eat rubbish for the next few days and expect my body to perform at its best.

I think putting this all down into words has really helped. I'm ready to start again.

Sirzy · 13/09/2013 09:32

Morning all, welcome IsThatTrue.

I have been walking DS to pre school all week and some days picking up DN from the same school which is 2 or 3 miles a day so at least an extra 10 miles a week term time has to make a difference in the long run? Going to start coming home the long way too if nothing else planned!

I don't know about the rest of you but I find myself getting really bored with food. I have been buying the magazine "healthy food guide" and it has some great recipies which are healthy(healthier!) and the ones I have tried are very tasty - they include all the nutritional information too which is handy!

Lorelai · 13/09/2013 09:51

Sirzy - it may be a bit sad, but I have resolved the boredom issue by making a list of about 50 meals that I can have within my plan, and making a note of where I found them - WW recipe books, SW books, SW website etc. Each week I choose some that I have had before and some new ones. Last night we had a gorgeous macaroni cheese - cooked some leeks, courgettes and mushrooms in fry light until nice and soft, mixed with pasta and a cheese sauce made from 1/2 pint milk, 2 tbsp cornflour, about 250g fat free fromage frais and about 70g cheese (sorry can't remember exact amounts off the top of my head). Baked for 20 mins and it was delicious, and all within my daily allowance.

TiredNursey · 13/09/2013 09:58

Lorelai, the first time I used SW, we had a fantastic leader and it was great, but the only class near me is not that inspiring.

I am incined to meal plan using Bill Granger and Gordon Ramsey and adapt where large amounts of butter/oil are required!

Sirzy · 13/09/2013 10:17

That's what I am trying to do lorali. I am working on if I try one new recipe a week it will give me a much wider selection!

LegoAcupuncture · 13/09/2013 10:50

Lorelai that sounds like a great idea. Maybe we should have a spin off thread with some decent recipes?

Sirzy · 13/09/2013 11:21

Good idea Lego!

cq · 13/09/2013 11:21

Ooh yes, I'm always looking for new recipe ideas. Especially ones that are easy, prepare-ahead, bulk cook & freeze, v low in calories, high in fibre and will be enjoyed by everyone in the family. If anyone can find me something that ticks ALL those boxes I will be eternally gratefulSmile

Must share a quick win I found this week - I think I saw it on another weight loss thread, possibly a 5;2. Anyway, Waitrose Love Life Minestrone Soup - it's full of veg, with enough potato and pasta to satisfy those carb cravings, and the whole tin is only 140 cals! It's perfect for that moment when I need a quick and satisfying lunch but haven't anything in the fridge. Don't know what it is in WW points, SW syns etc, but worth a look. I'm stocking up on it now it's not really salad weather.

YellowCanary1 · 13/09/2013 12:01

Quick one for lunch, roasting tomatoes, peppers, courgette in oven for 40mins, fry up (using spray) onions and garlic, add all to a big pan with half pint veg stock and simmer whilst breaking up the veg. Makes the most delicious roasted veg soup and around 100 calories a pop! I've got a batch on at the moment with enough to freeze as well. Dh makes oat bread and the two things are wonderful together!

moonshine · 13/09/2013 12:27

Sorry, I'm back (again) - I've been away with work and came home late last night after eating lots of crap food.

I weighed my self before the above and have put on 2lbs - it was a good week food-wise and my only deviation was 3 glasses of wine so it looks like I'm back in my pattern of not being able to lose weight Sad. I shall catch-up on thread now for some inspiration, sigh.

HenriettaPye · 13/09/2013 12:54

Hello all! Welcome Isthattrue!

I would love some recipes,I'm getting really fed up with what I'm eating!!

Trip to the zoo tomorrow- belfast zoo is one hell of a walk, it's all uphill and some of those hills are really steep!! So pushing DD in her pram up those is sure to burn a few calories! Smile

Lorelai · 13/09/2013 13:22

I will share some recipes once i am home. Out shopping at the moment, eating in the food court. Walked past KFC, macdonalds, pizza hut, subway and greggs to get a jacket potato with baked beans :)

Debs75 · 13/09/2013 15:09

Conference day yesterday followed by training day today. Usually this would mean loads of snacking and high calorie food but I was lucky. Lunch at the conference was a generic sandwich an apple which was so hard it was like rock, a bag of light walkers and a small fruit juice. Good for the diet I suppose but not scrummy. Today I bought a salad, hummus and fruit to share with dd3 and some WW cake.

Sweet jacket potato with chilli tonight then I just have to get through fatty Saturday and see how this week has gone.

Moonshine I really struggle with weight loss, it has taken me since March to lose 1 stone 6 and in that time I have put some weight back ON! Stick with it.
Personally I don't mind if it takes me 3 years to lose the 4 stone I have left as long as it stays off for several years after that. As well struggling during the diet should help you maintain afterwards as you are used to having lapses.

This thread helps as well I want to see our losses get bigger and bigger whilst my hips get smaller and smaller

clarinetV2 · 13/09/2013 15:24

Welcome, IsThatTrue. You've done really well to get where you are, and yes, the sleep deprivation isn't going to be helping you eat healthily! One of the things I've found helpful with self-sabbing is to stop and think before putting whatever it is in my mouth, and ask myself what are now gradually becoming habitual questions: 'do I need this', 'will I regret it later', and 'is there something healthier I could do or eat instead'. Just the act of taking the time to stop and think works on most occasions. It doesn't always work, though, so my fallback if I've slipped up is to tell myself it's only food, and eating too much unhealthy food doesn't make me a bad person - tomorrow is a new day with other choices to be made. That's helped me back on the wagon on the many occasions during the past year and a bit when I've slipped up. And it's now much easier than it was a year ago. Good luck, and look forward to hearing how you get on.

YellowCanary that's so impressive about your race tonight. Fingers crossed that you make the 35 mins. But whatever your time I'll still be mega-impressed.
