The 'Avoid The Quiche' Quiche- Part 2!!!

HenriettaPye · 26/08/2013 19:53

Hi all!! (waves!)

Cant believe our last thread filled up so quickly!

For those of you who don't know us, the 'Avoid the Quiche' Quiche is a group of people who all want to lose a substantial amount of weight (no coming on here complaining about the half a stone you desperately need to lose, thanks very much!) We all have different personal goals and reasons for wanting to lose weight, whether it be for a special holiday coming up, to aid fertility or to be healthier. This thread is a place to share your highs and lows, talk to like minded people, get encouragement and offer support to others when they need it!

Official weigh in day is Wednesday- Slimmer of the week will get a virtual bunch of flowers, woohoo!! Flowers

I personally am aiming to lose 6 stone. It wont be easy but i've got a great bunch of ladies behind me keeping me focused and for that i'm very grateful! Smile

And that BMI link really does look just like me Shock. Except I have slightly thinner legs but bigger boobs. I like the look of me at my target weight, I think I'll look pretty good.

clarinetV2 · 30/08/2013 21:56

Welcome, reastie.

I'm feeling very proud of myself this evening. I had a nightmare day at work - loads of silly, stupid things went wrong, I had a horrible email from a colleague which upset me, and something I've been working on for ages is going to have to be abandoned. So I really wanted to go out and buy a huge bar of chocolate at lunchtime, but somehow managed to distract myself by going for a walk (in the opposite direction from any shops) instead. I had to go to Sainsburys for the weekend shop on the way home. Boy, did I want to buy one of their jumbo vanilla and strawberry swiss rolls. I wanted it so badly. All the old thoughts came crowding in - I've earned it, I deserve it, it won't make much difference in the long run if I do it just this once, who cares anyway... But I steered clear of the bakery section, and pushed the thoughts away. I knew I would need something sweet to eat on the bus home - I just couldn't contemplate not having something. So, quiche avoiders, did I buy a four-pack of Kit-Kat crunchies? Did I buy a family-sized pouch of maltesers? No. Friends, I bought a bag of sugar snap peas and I wolfed them down on the bus, glowing with smug self-satisfaction. So now I'm sitting here slightly pissed off about my day at work, but I could be sitting here feeling slightly pissed off about my day at work and feeling rubbish about gorging myself silly on cake and chocolate. Not a bad end to an otherwise write-off of a day.

MiaWallace · 30/08/2013 22:05

It's my birthday on Tuesday and I was planning on having a night off and getting a Chinese take away and a bottle of wine.

Just added up the calories and it came to a whopping 2763!

What's more shocking was that was a typical Friday night EVERY FRIDAY And that would have been after having fish and chips in work at lunch time (school dinners not chip shop)

Then on a Saturday, if DH was home for the weekend, we would have McDonalds breakfast and a good few beers on a Saturday night. Then a huge roast dinner on a Sunday.

I'm disgusted with myself that I used to consume so much.

So on Tuesday I will have a couple of glasses of wine and will celebrate my birthday with a nice Tuna steak instead.

MiaWallace · 30/08/2013 22:07

Clarinet that is a huge achievement. Well done

Lorelai · 30/08/2013 22:08

Well done clarinet!!! You must feel so good about yourself right now!! Maybe try writing it down somewhere that you can look back to when you are having a bad day?

I did the first run of c25k tonight, wow it was hard!! But I am glad I did it, will be aiming to do it every other day, alternating with swimming.

HenriettaPye · 30/08/2013 22:33

Well done Clarinet, that's really fantastic! Smile

Isthiscorrect · 31/08/2013 07:11

Clarinet, well done. This is excellent news for the future, that whole change of mindset. You rock!

Thanks to everyone who helped me last night. I did have a small glass of wine, because I knew the truth that I had tried very hard and hadn't cheated. And yes low and behold this morning 3 lbs off as you told me it would, and as I knew in my heart. Smile

I also took my first exercise today, so I'm feeling good about myself. Positive vibes to everyone.

Reastie · 31/08/2013 07:14

Thanks for the welcome guys

Mia I say I'm doing insanity, what I mean is I'm lying in a sweat heap on the floor shouting 'nooooooo' in a pathetic way for most of the workout! I can't do everything by far.

Birding I've loved water aerobics in the past. It's hard work (looks are deceptive with all those old ladies making it look easy somehow!) and I always felt great afterwards. I remember going to Rigby and PEllar for a sports bra last year and being told 'we don't do them that big' and feeling really miserable and Blush about it.

Lorelai · 31/08/2013 07:26

That's great clarinet!!

I am feeling really stiff this morning, in my shoulders and upper back though rather than my legs which is odd. It doesn't bode too well for swimming, but I am going to give it a go anyway as one I start making excuses not to go then I will never go again!

clarinetV2 · 31/08/2013 07:30

Thanks, all. Good idea about writing it down, lorelai, I think I'll do that. I'm really impressed with those of you who are doing C25K and looking forward to hearing how it goes. Isthiscorrect that's great news and glad to hear you're feeling good this morning. Hope everyone has a good Saturday.

BirdingWidow · 31/08/2013 08:33

Right, in future my motto (when faced with cake / crisps / other evils) will be 'what would Clarinet do?'. Am so impressed with your mindset!

I think I will see if I can give swimming a go. Not sure when I could go because I am looking after DS and DP works long hours. But I will go back to work sometime soon myself and it will be even harder to fit in so I should find a way now. I never really learned to swim though. I can float (obviously, with all this in-built buoyancy!) but I have no technique. I am sure I must burn more calories per length than most though with my inefficient flapping about Grin

Reastie, a fitter was incredibly rude to me in Rigby and Pellar once. She told me my bra was an awful fit and made my boobs look line they were running for my armpits. I delighted in telling her that she herself had sold me the bra just two months earlier, and she hadn't been terribly polite then either. There was a bit of an atmosphere after that...

Thought for today is that I would love not to worry about back fat making me all lumpy from behind (though whoever said up thread that they keep their hair long to cover it - why did I never think of that?!)

phantomhairpuller · 31/08/2013 08:41

Well, I woke up all ready and raring to do my first C25K run... and my knee has given out on me Hmm

I fell on it a couple of years back, up some concrete steps and landed all my weight on my left knee. Low and behold, it starts playing up as soon as I get a nice little exercise routine going Angry

Am off to buy a support for it today then will hopefully start C25K tomorrow instead.

Have a good day all Smile

IsaacCox · 31/08/2013 09:06

Thanks all for the well dones :)

Thanks for that BMI link phantom. It's shocking but I actually do look like that Shock :(

Welcome Reastie :) Well done on your incredible weight loss already!

Well done clarinet. Massive achievement. You must feel great. Though sorry you had a horrid day at work.

Mia, I daren't add up the calories of what I used to eat, I bet I was like eating 10 days worth of calories in a week Blush Enjoy the wine on your birthday :)

Glad you're feeling better Isthiscorrect :)

I was about 4 calories under my goal yesterday, then I had an overwhelming craving for chocolate so had a small bar. Hopefully as I still had calories left from the day before, it won't do any damage. I enjoyed it anyway Grin Though I was good and only had the one when I could have had them all!

Have a great weekend all!

IsaacCox · 31/08/2013 09:07

Woah! Sorry for the smiley overload...

imustbepatient · 31/08/2013 10:35

Just reading through the latest posts to keep me motivated and positive for the weekend!

You are all doing so well, and love the various visualisations!

I only lost 200 grams last week, so about half a pound. Oh well, at least it is going in the right direction.

I need to find a way to shoe horn some exercise into my life again! And hence that is my challenge for the week! [steely determined face]

Reastie · 31/08/2013 11:07

Birding Shock to the R&P lady. When I was measured for my sports bra the assistant wanted to get my size so I could go and try to get one online that specialises in big ones....she kept putting bras with larger and larger back sizes on each time saying 'no, you need a bigger one' and eventually telling me I was a 46 something or other. Even I could see they were ridiculously big on me! I was actually a 40 so she was way out! I've never been quite so confident with R&P being knowledgable since but I still go there as they seem to be better than the rest around here

Phantom typical! Can you build up very slowly or do knee strengthening exercises?

Isaac I have chocolate every day and I've still lost weight so don't stress about it. A little bit IMO is fine, it's the stopping yourself from eating it all that I find hard!

Am busy painting the dwnstairs loo but need to work in an insanity workout somewhere today. Must get back to the painting so I have time for the workout...

moonshine · 31/08/2013 11:07

Well done clarinet- just shows the strength of your resolve and now you know you can do that again.

Sorry for my own absence. I've had a terrible 2 days (mentally), not helped by my 2nd period in 3 weeks.

I didn't binge but not much happening weight-wise which is galling considering how little I'm eating really - I'll fess up now to being a daily weigher but have been doing it for years and years and so won't stop now but I can look at all the ups and downs relatively logically (I think!).

Tomorrow I start my exercise regime, which is also my Challenge of the Week. My main motivation is to get back into some of my lovely clothes and not having the money to buy anymore. But even more so, to be fit again and to try and get rid of my continually sore back.

MissElodie · 31/08/2013 11:35

Morning all,

Welcome reastie and massive congrats on your weight loss so far that's brilliant! What does nsv mean?

Wow clarinet that is some strong resolve you have! well done on resisting that temptation. Great idea Birding 'what would clarinet do?'!!

isthis glad you are feeling more positive today and well done on your 3lb loss Smile

moonshine I weigh everyday too. I wish I could just weigh in every week but it is habit for me as well when I'm trying to lose weight. Looks like I lost a pound yesterday and now put it back on today but I know it varies so I just hope the pound is gone again by weigh day weds!

I have chocolate everyday too, I wouldn't last long if I denied myself. I used to have at least 2 bars a day and could maybe even have 4 or 5 over the course of a day without really batting an eyelid Blush. I love chocolate!

My thought for today is to have more energy. Maybe once I have lost the weight of a newborn calf Shock I will have more 'get up and go' until then every guinea pig helps!!

Lorelai · 31/08/2013 11:43

Its funny, I am the opposite with chocolate, I have to cut it out completely or the small amount would gradually increase to binge proportions.

Anyway, just back from the pool, 3k done in the same amount of time as I did 2.5k in last week :)

clarinetV2 · 31/08/2013 12:08

Grin at 'what would clarinet do?' - after 40 years of binge eating and failed dieting I am finally Setting An Example. Never thought the day would come! Phantom, sorry to hear about your knee - hope it behaves itself enough for you to get back with the programme tomorrow. But don't do it if it's not ready and risk any longer-term damage, will you?

On chocolate, I am unable, absolutely unable, to have just one ordinary-sized bar. So I plan in a chocolate day usually once a week when I can have a decent amount (100g Milky Bar is 550 calories) staying within my overall calorie allocation. Couldn't possibly have any less than that and feel I'd really had chocolate!! And there's no way I could eat that every day and lose weight - but I do need my weekly fix. Maybe I'm not such An Example after all...

LegoAcupuncture · 31/08/2013 12:51

Grin at "every guinea pig helps"

That should be our motto, fantastic! That and "What would Clarinet do" for our team bangles.

Back in the game today. Feeling so much more human.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

BirdingWidow · 31/08/2013 14:22

My inner Clarinet was tested just now in waitrose. They had dark chocolate Choco Liebnitz biscuits on BOGOF and I WALKED ON BY. I have never ever managed that before (unlike eating a whole packet in one sitting, THAT I have managed before once or twice most weeks Grin

I also am going for the decent amount of chocolate in a week. I am allowing myself to buy posh Green and Blacks and have a 100g bar each week, generally Saturday nights with anything left on Sunday as if.The rest of the time it is all about the sugar-free jelly.

Hoping gardening today will burn a few calories!

HenriettaPye · 31/08/2013 14:30

Hi all. I've just bought my dress for my best friends wedding- I wasn't planning in getting it for a few weeks yet so I can hopefully lose done weight, however I seem it and fell in love with it and was on sale so I bought it! It's the type that if I do lose weight I can tie it a bit tighter and it will still look gorgeous!!

Definitely think we should all think 'what would clarinet do' in tempting situations! Smile

I'm another serious chocoholic- once I start I just can't stop do I've been trying to just cut it out completely which is so hard Sad

Oh I am impressed with myself! Took the DC to the pictures today and totally avoided the nachos with hot cheese dip and had a bottle of extremely overpriced ware.

MiaWallace · 31/08/2013 20:55

Everyone is doing so well. I love our Quiche.

My motivation for today is wanting to be able to go for a professional massage. I'm too embarrassed to go at my current weight and get my back fat out in front of a stranger.
