Today is a big day for me, a turning point! I've always been 'big' however have just been getting bigger and bigger. I want to lose 6 stone- starting from today.

Anyone else in the same boat who would like to swap inspiration and tips? Today I've planned to eat healthily and go for a nice long walk Grin

Wow, it's amazing to think of it like that LayMizz.

It's mad to think how I manage to carry it around every day. No wonder I get out of breath, have back and joint ache etc.

If I get to 10 stone, that'd be like losing around 200 packs of butter! Shock if my maths is right

IsaacCox · 18/08/2013 15:23

Ignore my maths Blush I'm too tired to work it out properly, my brains not fully engaged today. If I go from 17st 11 to 10 stone, how many packs of butter is that? Blush

LayMizzRarb · 18/08/2013 16:22

That's a lot of butter Grin

LayMizzRarb · 18/08/2013 16:27

249 packs of butter! Most people would struggle to carry that in a box or bag. My excess weight is equivalent to giving my sister a piggy back all day long (and more). Even with 9lbs off my load does seem lighter. 18 packs of butter gone for good!

TiredNursey · 18/08/2013 16:37

Thats about 98 packs of butter. Imagine trying to push that trolley around tescos.
Or alternatively thats like losing the entire weight of my best friend!
She'd disappear completely!

TiredNursey · 18/08/2013 16:40

Oh no, double that, I was imagining that a pack of butter was 500g not 250g
196 packs.

That would remove circulation from your fingers as you carried the shopping back home. And maybe slip a disc. Grin

IsaacCox · 18/08/2013 16:47
Shock

At least I'm carrying a bit less now I'm 16st 7. But still Shock

Sirzy · 18/08/2013 16:49

I like the butter idea. I have lost 56 blocks of butter so far!

Sirzy · 18/08/2013 16:50

But still 112 to go

LayMizzRarb · 18/08/2013 17:00

Go on Sirzy - I dare you to put 56 blocks in your trolley and photograph them! I bet it looks huge! At worst they will think you're mad, at best - its aerobic exercise taking them off the shelf and into your basket etc...

Lorelai · 18/08/2013 17:06

Does anyone mind if I join in? I have about 9 stone to lose (approx as I am not totally sure what I weigh). I am planning on doing Slimming World, going to my first class on Weds but I started 'unofficially' today and have already slipped up twice :( but on the plus side I have resisted several slices of bread and butter and replaced them with fruit :)

clarinetV2 · 18/08/2013 17:07

Loving the butter thing! I've lost about 160 blocks if my maths is right (half a pound each?), but I don't think my local Sainsburys has that many on the shelves...

Welcome itsonlyme.

Treat day today. Just had a 100g bar of Milky Way. Sometimes only chocolate will do.

clarinetV2 · 18/08/2013 17:08

Ooops, posted too soon, welcome and good luck lorelai as well.

LegoAcupuncture · 18/08/2013 17:18

I'm going to scan the butter aisle for crazy women loading their trolleys with butter and taking photos Grin

My inspiration for the day, I am doing this so that I can see my children grow up and have grandchildren.

Have had a huge roast dinner today, mainly veg so that's pretty good. Was very annoyed that the WW rhubarb crumble needed doing in the oven and not microwave, so ended up having a calorific rhubarb crumble instead. But (and is a big butt) I still have 12 pp (and 34 weeklies) for the rest of the day and its 17:17 and I'm not hungry.

WI for me tomorrow, hopefully will have lost the 2lbs I'm aiming for a week.

SummerHoliDidi · 18/08/2013 17:33

Welcome Lorelai. I'm doing sw and am finding that it's really easy to stick to most if the time. Don't be afraid to eat as much free foods as you want, it's really ok, even though people tend to think you shouldn't have such big portions.

It's really funny to hear you all talking in terms of packs of butter, my consultant at sw was talking like that yesterday. I've lost 24 blocks of butter so far, still another 65 to go.

TiredNursey · 18/08/2013 17:35

Hi Lorelai ,
dont worry about slip ups.
The thing with Slimming World, (which I am doing on my own as I am sadly very familiar with the plan) is you eat until you are not hungry any more.
But you make better choices. A dip today isnt such a bad thing. Just continue, pick yourself up, dont beat yourself up. Smile

I have to say, the thing I found about slimming world classes was they do push a lot of processed convenience food, Mugshots/packet of savoury rice/low syn sausages etc but the lower fat stuff. (probably because a lot of overweight people eat convenience food, and it is often high in fat/sugars etc) but I dont really.
I like fat chips and cake! And bread. I could go through a loaf in one sitting with a big slice of butter on top.
I am cooking quick from scratch food, with plenty of veg and fruit. Noodles/potatoes/rice all cooked with the minimum fat. Chicken/pork (slowcooker)/beef/turkey/veggie stir-fries...
And have my bread with scrambled eggs on the weekends.
And I am having the odd treat because to deny myself completely would lead to binging on rubbish.
I am determined this time. Because I am sick of being fat, but the only person who can change it is me.

TiredNursey · 18/08/2013 17:38

oops. seem to have deleted a whole paragraph.
When I did SW before, I had massive massive portions at the beginning, and seemed to be eating all the time, but I still lost weight, because the choices I made were better, and obviously not so calorific. And as the weight came off, my portions sizes gradually came down without me consciously making them smaller.
The key is dont be hungry, and make better choices.

LayMizzRarb · 18/08/2013 18:29

I think WW teaches you, almost subliminally, to make better choices. DH has taken an interest in the whole points system (no need for him to diet ) and I was explaining at breakfast this morning that I don't want to 'waste' points.
I was going to use a teaspoon of olive oil, which is one point, and a teaspoon of spread on my crumpet. Instead of doing that, I will have a meringue nest, filled with a yoghurt and loads of fresh fruit.

LegoAcupuncture · 18/08/2013 18:36

I Prefer WW to SW as I need to be controlled. Being able to eat as much as I like isn't going to help me in the long run.

A friend did SW and did amazingly well on it though.

Sirzy · 18/08/2013 18:44

I have tried SW and WW in the past and didn't get on with either of them. This time I am just going for making changes to my eating habits and thinking before I eat and it is working so far!

Lorelai · 18/08/2013 19:00

I've done WW many, many times in the past, and it does work, but I find that it doesn't really change the way I eat enough for it to be sustainable; I find that I just eat lower fat versions of things, making it very easy to change back to the high fat versions. SW seems like it will force me to make better food choices in terms of balanced meals.

Hello all, hi chesty and lorelei. Haven't checked on for a few days been very busy but still logging on mfp. Went over my target yesterday with s takeaway pizza last night but only by about 300 calories so my total for the day was 1700 ish.

I was actually really happy about it as I think its taught me a valuable lesson. I can have a treat without going over the top, the whole day doesn't have to be a write off. Going 300 over isn't going to make much difference overall. Its motivated me to know that I can still have a few treats and greedy days without giving up the diet iyswim.

My daily reminder is http://www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/europe/greece/corfu/nissaki/villas/old-stone-house.html this which I've booked for next year. Its in a good snorkeling area and up a steep hill so I need to be fit. We've had a tough couple of years financially which are finally getting better and I've been looking at this holiday for ages so I want it to be fantastic :)

Great to see everyone still doing well, even staying motivated on difficult days. Well done to us all so far!
