Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

Grin. I will bear that in mind BIWI.

I can't do coffee without sugar. Will try a strong tea.

Dinner is roast lamb, mashed swede and leeks and asparagus in butter.

WillieWaggledagger · 11/05/2013 17:59

you could do a strong 'shot', maybe, in a medicinal way? Wink

CiderwithBuda · 11/05/2013 18:12

I'll pop some butter and see if that and my other strategies will help. If not I will fat bomb tomorrow. And there is a phrase I never thought I would type! Grin

magnesium will definitely work for constipation.

sammisatt · 11/05/2013 18:33

Some very inspiring posts today on this woe. Just to add my tuppence worth I also echo what everybody else says. It is such a lovely feeling to know I will eat like this forever. I can say that categorically. It just suits me. I eat delicious food, I no longer overeat or obsess about food and I love how I can blame the carbs for my dysfunctional attitude to food. It was their fault I got fat!Wink

I started this woe at 11stone five having lost 2 stone the previous year after having twins. I've lost about 10 pounds on this since October. Not masses but I just look and feel leaner and have lost loads off my belly.

I am just under 10.7 and am 5 foot 6 and I echo what was said below about this woe getting you to the right size for your build. My weight is pretty heavy but I'm smaller. (Size 10-12) Also I Do quite a bit of weight training. It's not all about the number on the scale. Although I would love to be just under ten again, I'm also pretty happy at this weight.

Today:

B: bacon, egg, avocado
S: Greek yog, hazelnuts, 4 strawbs: This was followed by a v intense circuit training sesh so I wanted sthing a bit carby although like Biwi said, I love how strawberries, nuts and yoghurt are the new naughty.
L: lamb steak, green salad, tzaziki
Cheese
D: roAst chicken and roast broccoli

Have a good weekend everyone.

Chipsbigbowl · 11/05/2013 18:37

Off to the cinema this evening - is there anything I can eat!?

CiderwithBuda · 11/05/2013 18:38

Hi sammisatt! I reckon a lot of my weight came from Paris Deli tuna mayo rolls, Sama chicken mayo rolls and Java smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels. Not to mention the masses of alcohol consumed in HCMC! Smile

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 11/05/2013 18:42

make my own? vanilla powder? how, why, when, and again how?! Grin

BlackAffronted · 11/05/2013 18:45

Cider, I suffer with it badly on this WOE, and nothing seems to help me :( I eat loads of all the stuff we are meant to, I take magnesium, psyllium husks, drink 4 litres of water a day and still passs poo the size of tennis balls.

BlackAffronted · 11/05/2013 18:45

Jax, I think she meant pork crackling :)

sammisatt · 11/05/2013 18:59

Chao ba cider!! Shall we hijack this thread as well and make it all about us in Saigon? Here goes: fried egg baguettes, brunches at diamond plaza, bia hoi, cocktails, sitting on my arse by the swimming pool. That's actually how I got far. It was Vietnam not my twins.

(Sorry. That was for cider)

BIWI · 11/05/2013 19:09

I did indeed, Jax! Grin

i'm having this for supper but without the potato gratin and without the peas, obviously

it's a nice recipe, but looking at the picture what sort of loon serves peas on a wooden board?? they would be all over the kitchen..

Chipsbigbowl · 11/05/2013 19:55

BIWI, what's the more reasonable choice: prosecco, red wine or diet coke? Please - I'm desperate for a treat ?!

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 11/05/2013 20:22

oh, yes I will make my own crackling. Grin

halfthesize · 11/05/2013 20:43

chips Prosecco would be my choice and is what I am indulging in tonight along with a little redBlush

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/05/2013 20:45

Looking naked in a mirror (eek) - I look very skinny at the top, but hockey player legs. Doesn't matter if I am very toned or flabby, I have hefty legs.

Perhaps 10 stone dead is probably my true weight. I don't think I have weighed any less, mind ou as a teenager I never weighed myself anyway. I am tall so maybe 9 and a half stone is a bit ambitious. All I see though are my saddlebags and cellulite on my legs and stomach. I don't think I look that great unclothed. The opposite in fact.

Anyway I did today what I never do and weighed myself in the evening - 10 stone 2! So have last some.

I agree with what biwi says in that look at the weight loss as a long game. In January 2012 I was 12 stone 3, and in December 2012 I got to my target of 9 stone 13. So it took nearly a year to lose just over 2 stone, and that was with periods of illness, eating like a wally and drinking. Ad even though I have eaten wildly since (a holiday made up of cocktails, Danish pastries and bread, and Christmas where I ate my bodyweight in stollen, crisp and root vegetables) I haven't put a great deal on, half a stone or so. I think what this WOE teaches you that carbs are a real treat. I used to eat pasta pretty much every day, and bread. Ad porridge with syrup a lot, and crisps. You learn that these things are not verboten, just not to be eaten every single day. And if you splurge on a load of carbs, yo adjust your eating accordingly for a few days. This diet can be very frustrating to lose weight, what with the stalls and where you feel it doesn't work for a few weeks, but it is very easy to maintain your weight if ou always bear in mind the basic principles. And somehow it flicked a switch n my brain. I would never eat a bowl of cereal now as I think it is just nutritionally empty.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/05/2013 20:46

And I cannot imagine eating pasta every day now. I et it very rarely, and only a bit, as the texture seems strange somehow.

middleagedspread · 11/05/2013 20:54

I can so imagine eating pasta Envy but I won't.

decaffwithcream · 11/05/2013 21:08

That's very reassuring to hear detailed info about the maintenance phase, thanks.

The thought of being able to have carbs, but as a "treat" type monitored food is less intimidating than the fear I had of having to maintain all the changes religiously or gain weight.

changeforthebetter · 11/05/2013 21:51

I have a box of croissants in the car Shock they were left over from work. I am saving them for the DCs. I'm not tempted.

I am a bit confused about cheese - hard good, but mascarpone not??

I have def snacked on too many nuts too Smile

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 11/05/2013 22:22

So today I had
B- 2 fried eggs with mushrooms and cheddar
L- chickpeas with tomato and egg, and some cheese (chick peas aren't low carb but I need protein that isn't just egg!)
D - salad with poached mushrooms and more cheese, Greek yoghurt

Am I on the right lines? I can't be über strict, but I feel like I've eaten loads of cheese and eggs! I love cheese and eggs but is is sustainable?

NewStartNewStory · 12/05/2013 03:41

Guilty as charge half except celebrations seem to have been spread over nearly a week BlushGrin

Monday weigh in will be depressing. But it is a starting weight really so onwards and downwards from that point.

NewStartNewStory · 12/05/2013 03:44

And clearly I am not long in and really should be finding sleep rather then on the internet. Blush
