The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here

Three weeks to go!

How are you all doing?

Anyone Ubercamping this week?

Good luck. Still time to shed almost half a stone if you really stick to your knitting! Grin

Red cabbage:

Slice and boil in salted water for about 5 minutes
Drain
In the same pan, melt a very large knob of butter, and then fry some sliced shallots (about 2 large shallots per 1/2 cabbage) seasoned with salt and black pepper
When the shallots are softened, tip the cabbage back into the pan and stir into the shallots/butter
Add a generous sloosh (technical term) of red wine vinegar, and cook on high until the fumes are burnt off
Put a lid on the pan, turn the heat right down to the lowest setting, and let it braise for at least 30 minutes.
Before serving, add another knob of butter

well done for not eating the crisps Jake (or the children Wink). Annoyingly we have to keep lots of crisps in the house as DD2 needs lots of salt, and crisps are a easy way to keep her topped up - you cant really add salt to a healthy apple or banana as a snack. So they are always there in the cupboard taunting me Grin. But I haven't given in today, so am feeling good about myself, now that the headache has gone a bit.

IShallWearMidnight · 27/02/2013 16:12

had the creamy chicken masala last night btw - was delish, although a bit on the rich side for me. Its going to take some time before I can cope with the level of good fat I think, I'm far too used to having the bad stuff hidden away in food, so you don't notice it so much.

Ruprekt · 27/02/2013 16:32

A brilliant link came onto FB from the aerobics lady I go to all about sugar and how addictive it is. Will try and link it later.

B sausage, bacon and hb eggs

L. Chicken with broccoli and butter courgette ribbons

D not sure. Something light.

AuntieMaggie · 27/02/2013 16:48

Still lurking :)

BIWI I made your cheese flaxseed crisp things (yummy) but I just cooked it in one piece and ended up with a load of crumbs so I think I would cut them up next time.

JakeBullet · 27/02/2013 17:02

Dinner tonight is chicken baked in foil with butter
Mashed cauliflower with butter
Mushrooms in butter
Spinach with....you guessed it......butter Grin

Must track down some celeriac tomorrow as am keen to try celeriac chips.

Have some mashed cauliflower left over and thinking of trying to make a small cauliflower pizza from that link further down.

BlackAffronted · 27/02/2013 17:21

Did an hour of Zumba this morning, so have been on a high since :)

Breakfast was a mango fruit tea & a mushroom omlette

Lunch was asparagus, mushroom & chicken in a creamy tarragon sauce

Not sure what dinner will be yet. Will have a peppermint tea too.

BlackAffronted · 27/02/2013 17:23

Got a few pics to add to the food porn thread later :)

JakeBullet · 27/02/2013 17:28

Okay.....I am going mad for something sweet and might break out a Pepsi Max in the absence of other more Carby type things, will go out tomorrow and get some dark chocolate...high cocoa type.

timidviper · 27/02/2013 18:23

I have been really good this week but am out with friends tonight and it is a "sizzling" pub so eating will be a challenge. Gin and slimline tonic beckons!

Ruprekt · 27/02/2013 18:31

Jake Do not give in to the evils of pepsi max.

Make a cup of tea, go for a shower, eat some veg!

Tis sooooo not worth it!

BIWI · 27/02/2013 19:07

Jake! Artificial sweeteners and chocolate are not allowed during Bootcamp! Step away from both! This is the whole point of this strict fortnight - to break the addiction to sugar.

Honestly, please don't do it. You will feel so much better for not giving in.

thenightsky · 27/02/2013 19:32

Timid... I went to a sizzling pub the other week and had no issues at all... there was a salmon fillet with salad on the menu and it was HUGE!

JakeBullet · 27/02/2013 19:35

Grin haven't given in.....forgot about the Bootcamp rules....full of the Dr Briffa book. Went for a bath and the craving seems to have passed thankfully.....was bad though and the first time I have experienced it.

JakeBullet · 27/02/2013 19:40

Okay....so will go off and buy sparkling mineral water instead tomorrow....and some celeriac. We have quick fry steak tomorrow night so am tempted to try celeriac chips.

Made the mashed cauliflower tonight and DS absolutely LOVED it.,....and he even liked the buttered spinach too.

MsRinky · 27/02/2013 20:18

Hello all, thanks for all good wishes for tomorrow. Had to buy new outfit as I work in a University and usually wear jeans to work. I did discover that I now fitted in to two old suits I haven't fitted in for about a decade, but decided they made me look like an undertaker. So I went smart but not over formal and am wearing this dress:

Best wishes to all those with troubles at the moment. Be kind to yourselves, and remember that there aren't any problems that are actually going to be resolved by giving in to your inner sugary twat...

On the other hand, if I get this job tomorrow (and if I don't) I will be getting drunk tomorrow night...

spilttheteaagain · 27/02/2013 20:23

Well done on not giving in jake, tis so very hard! Honestly every day you hold out the temptation will become less, really and truly. My snack of preference used to be almonds, raisins and dark choc, or flapjack packed with syrup, sugar, apricots, raisins etc. Now actually i would rather have some cheddar and cucumber, or some almonds on their own, or some plain greek yogurt.
Your tastebuds will change. This is the hardest part.

I have my parents coming on Friday. For dinner I was going to do gourmet style burgers topped with bacon and cheese, and celeriac and swede chips, nice salad.
But I need ideas for lunch... any thoughts?

I then have DH's parents coming on Saturday so need more lunch ideas for them! My parents are interested in low carbing. I think DH's think we are a bit insane, and will prob need some bread alongside. Damnit which means I have to make or buy really good bread as they are bread snobs (me too!) and then I will want it.

So, low carb guest suitable lunch spread ideas please??

spilttheteaagain · 27/02/2013 20:28

God this Nigel slater recipe for salted chocolate snaps looks flipping delicious. I am sure you could leave out the sugar, it only calls for a pinch anyway so not exactly fundamental. I feel a baking session coming on soon! when I get a sodding chance

LavenderBriggs · 27/02/2013 20:32

Thanks BIWI. I love how you help in that calm "I'm not listening to your tantrum, but I'll help out with your problem" way Grin Cabbage was lovely.

Cracking advice MsRinky Good luck for tomorrow. Let us know how you get on.

Gorgeous dress MsRinky - good luck with the interview!

While I have few problems with the sugary twat, I have just completed three almost perfect uber camp days, I have just drunk a bloody glass of wine with supper too, mainly because DH was having some. I think as one of five children I have a bit of a "competition for resources" problem and get jealous when someone else has something and then in a slightly dog in the manger way I just want it because.

Guess I better have another couple of days of über camp!
