I have rosacea and my skin is nearly perfect now.

I had a blip to start with as periods went haywire in first few weeks but all settled down and back to normal

I joined on the last thread but forgot to add my name to the list. It's enormous!

Lost 1 stone before Christmas with Briffa (DH lost 2) but undid quite a bit of that over Christmas.

chilli with roasted cauliflower tonight which was delicious.

Hello all. Good news about the water... I feel like a beach whale a the mo.Do you all weigh yourself Monday?

Report
happygolucky0 · 03/01/2013 22:56

also just wondering if anyone has any tips to help with the non stop eating in the evenings which at the mo is my biggest downfall?

Report
TheSandstoneCat · 03/01/2013 23:00

Just marking my place in advance of Monday - have now eaten all the Christmas food and nearly finished all the wine so getting ready for Monday. Funnily enough - as a long term low carber who lost 10 kg last year - I didn't put on any weight over Christmas despite eating and drinking. I wasn't a greedy pig but did eat a moderately carby diet. Wonder if cheese limited my weight loss last year - ate a lot of it. None over Christmas but stabilised my weight. Going to try for a low carb AND low cheese diet now and see if it makes a difference. Want to lose 6kg before half term but would love to lose another 10 kg this year.

for those asking about children and low carb, I just explained to my two (4 and 6 at the time) that we were going to change some of what we eat so we can be healthy and grow strong muscles. they eat what we eat with the addition of occasional rice or potatoes. they have a few more carby snacks like nakd bars, and they have crisps occasionally as I feel potatoes are better than biscuits. for breakfast they have Greek yog and fruit or porridge. they also have gluten free bread now for sandwiches in their packed lunch.
I let them have a few more carbs because their brains are still growing and they probably do need more than meSmile .

the 'ear like a dinosaur' book is good for explaining to children themselves about eating this way. it is cheapest on kindle.

I noticed that my DC weren't constantly hungry and their behaviour improved too.

my main concern was to reduce the sugar dramatically and to cut out wheat as DD appears to have similar reactions to wheat as DH and he has ibs.

hope this helps.

End of day 2. so far so good. headache is still there but shakes have subsided.

B- Cucumber and handful of cheddar cheese
L- Full fat Greek Yoghurt and a slice of ham
D- Grilled pork chops and a creamy mushroom sauce and salad with low card mayo which was seriously yummy and filling.

M&S have a 3 for £10 offer on meats so stocked up on pork, chicken thighs and shin of beef.

I could not believe the number of things I had to eliminate today based on their carb content and I couldn't believe I was checking labels.

I also went to LIDL but they only had the low fat option of the Greek 1000g tub yoghurt so will check elsewhere. I bought the unsweetened M&S one but it is almost gone.

My greatest shopping challenge was finding butter as they all seem to boast in the fact that they have less fat than butter etc.

Please can someone suggest a good butter brand to buy? thanks

I am really enjoying this thread - all the tips and meals described will help me plan. I managed day one of no carbs which is a huge achievement as I'm a complete sugar addict.
I've had two kids and this last pregnancy has given my figure a real pear shape - two extra inches on hips, bums and thighs. I've got a stone to lose to be pre baby but I'd like to lose two to have more wardrobe options. I'm thirty five at the end of the month so would be great to have made progress by then. No time for exercise as have a young baby and a hubby who works late - it'll be all about the food for me.

vnmum that's really interesting. DS1 is nearly 7 and has (I think) quite strong reactions to sugar. He gets very hyper which may be coincidence or not. He has always absolutely craved carbs and could easily demolish a packet of hot cross buns or slice after slice of toast. He is constantly hungry.

I think he does need carbs but I've been trying to sneak a lot more fat and protein into his diet (he's always been a reluctant meat eater). His requested meal would be plain pasta and peas with a bit of grated cheese on the top. However now I at least try to include a good dose of butter and maybe some ham or bacon.

Tonight they had rice but I loaded it with left over roast pork and fried it mixed with a couple of eggs for extra protein.

DS2 doesn't have nearly so definite a reaction but has always been a better eater.

Apart from babybel though, I struggle to think of non-carby snacks for them.

Lurpak
Anchor
Country Life
Kerry Gold
President

All good brands! Equally, all the supermarkets do their own label version. Butter can only be labelled butter if it has 80% fat.

coldethyl my DC still have dairy.
[waves at whippoorwill] whip also has success with feeding her DC paleo iirc.

I have not been too hungry today so expect I am in full blown ketosis. only problem is I am not tired but am in work early in the morning. I had this problem when I first went into ketosis when I started low carb last Feb. I seem to get the euphoric feeling at the wrong time of day Confused

Just checked and the Rachel's butter is 81.7g fat and is made of cream and salt.

BIWI, I hope that makes this an okay one?

Count me in - don't know what happened over Christmas but I appear to be 8lb heavier Shock

I find it a bit of a struggle to properly low carb - I'm not in UK and access to fresh veg and salad is not ways great but I'm going to do what I can, cut out the booze and so how I go Smile

Morning all. I started yesterday... Couldnt wait for monday! can anyone please rate my choices at Nandos yesterday? I had Mediterranean salad (olives, feta, lettuce cucumber tomatoes and dressing), some grilled halloumi and plain chicken wings with skin. Good choices?

Apart from that I had Greek yoghurt for breakfast and tuna and green salad with olive oil and full fat mayo for dinner.

That's interesting about hair loss whippoorwhill - I had that problem last year while on low carb... Wonder if I should take a vitamin supplement this time around.

Anew, I prefer the taste of salted butter.

Good luck today everyone.

biwi - thanks for the vinegar info! Will use a lower carb one in my mayo :)

becstar - your nandos choices sound perfect - good to know we can eat out there & have a tasty meal!

I have PCOS and probable insulin resistence. Im not sure if others here have PCOS, but I found that my skin cleared up, and the excess hairiness (i get chin hairs & a sligh tashe Blush) really cleared up - i love all the side effects of eating low carb Grin

I lost 2 stone low carbing and felt fantastic, then met DP and it's gradually crept back on Confused I am 40 this year and we want to start TTC before the end of 2013 so I need to get cracking and shift some weight

Stonking headache is going strong (day 3) BUT I feel some much less bloated. I must buy some scales!

Can anyone recommend a quick toning workout you can do at home? I've seen a few online and have some Wii games but just wondered if anyone had a particular favourite.
