Going to try & make my own mayo! Will it be carb free then? Im going to use eggs, olive oil, salt, mustard powder and rice wine vinegar.

Hello,

I can't wait to start on Monday. I am already low-carbing since yesterday but not too strict.

One thing that used to help me on previous bootcamps (can't remember who said it - mrsHP?) that really can stop you reaching for that chocolate /stollen/leftover mince pie/packet of crisps - you have eaten these things before. You will almost certainly eat these things again in your lifetime. You know what they taste like. You know what it will feel like in your mouth, and swallowing it. Do you really have to eat it now? Is it worth the slip up now to have that taste again? If so, then yes great, go for it and enjoy it and treat it as a planned cheat. If not, just leave it alone. Save it for another time when you will really savour and enjoy it.

This was echoed over and over again in the final festive BOOTCAMP thread when so many people said they had had this that and the other and they actually wish they hadn't bothered because it didn't taste as nice as they had thought it was going to (a bit meh in fact, or far too sweet) or they wish they had saved their lapse for a specific event or date.

Another drop of wisdom, this time from Zoe Harcombe, and I quote, "if you really fancy a box of chocolates you are much better off eating the whole box at once, than you are having one or two, here and there, throughout the day. If you eat a whole box of chocolates your body won't recognise the food so it will pump out insulin to respond to the sweetness. If you eat the whole box in less than an hour your body will have one sugar rush to respond to. If you eat the whole box throughout the day your pancreas will be on continual alert and you will be on a roller coaster of blood glucose highs and lows for hours"

BlackAffronted - you would be better off using lemon juice or wine vinegar, as I think rice vinegar is fairly carby. Hang on, will check ...

Dosh that is so true about the eating carby things and it not being worth it. I had quite a massive carb blow out over festive celebrations and nothing tasted that great and as a result, my skin is bad, I am sluggish, bloated and miserable. I am a joy to be around this weekHmm

Whilst doing this WOE since April I have lost weight, seen an improvement in my IBS and PMT. I have had loads more energy and been happier in general, which has helped in my personal life. So everytime you want something naughty, just think to yourself, is it really worth it and have a drink of water insteadSmile

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 03/01/2013 21:07

Right. Mizkan Rice Vinegar is 2.6g carbs per 100ml, so it's not that bad.

AuntieMaggie · 03/01/2013 21:12

rooobs sparkling water was my godsend on bootcamp last time - buy lots of it to drink in the evenings.

dosh you aren't really encouraging me to eat a whole box of choc are you??? I'm not starting til Mon but still... Wink

Report
BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 03/01/2013 21:16

... but, by comparison, Aspal's Cyder Vinegar is 0.1g carbs per 100ml - so why not use that, and make sure that the mayo is as low carb as possible?

AuntieMaggie - step away from the chocolates!!!

Right, Tesco online shop done ready to start on Saturday (delivery tomorrow, I mean). Who was it said they could live on £35 a week? Am awed. Mine cost £50, for 2 adults and a baby (who throws a fair amount of food so needs largish portions so she actually eats something).

I still in. Wasn't too bad over Christmas but still put on 4 pounds. I've got a family gathering that I can't get out of tomorrow. It's at the Chinese 'All you can eat' Buffet and I don't think there is a single low carb option available so will cheat wildly and then get totally back on the wagon.

MulledwineGless · 03/01/2013 21:48

Whipper - Chinese is the worst for low carb IMO

Mulledwinegless, we were wracking our brains to think of anything they might have that was low carb and the only thing we could think of was the duck, celery and spring onions for the crispy duck pancakes. Grin

I really can't be doing with all the hassle I'd get if all I ate was the duck, so cheating it is. It will be the most major cheat I've had in 10 months. The worst I've done before has been a couple of chocolates or a roast potato. I'm going to have 'tummy issues' aren't I? :)

Report
Whippoorwhill · 03/01/2013 22:12

Starfish, sorry I cross posted with you. :) This is the crappiest buffet place going, everything is in some kind of sweet sauce and batter or is a rice or noodle dish. I would develop norovirus just in time but I don't think my husband and brother would forgive me. It's one of those events that don't come round very often and my family are notoriously unsociable so it'scprobably less hassle to just relax and enjoy Hmm it. Bring on the carb coma!

Oh Promqueen, at well on the way to 50 I still had spots but since I've been low carbing they have pretty much gone away. Also very little PMT and pre period bloating and the perimenopausal hot flushes have nearly gone.

Lots of my hair fell out at the beginning and I was quite worried but it has all grown back and is thicker than ever.
