Oh dear, have just weighed for the first time since before Christmas and I've put on 10 pounds! Grrrr! Never mind, time for a new start for the new year. Good luck everyone, especially those of us starting today

3lb on for me. Thank god for noro virus, in weight loss stakes at least.

Hokey, BIWI starts the new thread every Monday. I am sure she'll be along soon to see how the disciples are doing.

Teddy you are a superstar and my inspiration Smile

morning! Oh dear, the cupboards are a bit bare so I had to make myself a burger for breakfast. It was good though!

5lbs up for me - which is kind of what I had expected, although I hoped it wouldn't be that much! I've written it here rather than on the new thread, as I want the new thread to be all about the starting afresh!

Checking in now that I've finally bitten the bullet

13stone 2lb this morning. Actually thought it would be worse than that so didn't move the scales and reweigh to get a "better" result

2 boiled eggs for breakfast.

Hi everyone, not had time to weigh in this morning, it was enough trying to get an annoyed toddler out the door but I think I am around 81KG (I weighed 2 days ago so it won't be much different).

I am 5ft 9, so that's about a stone more than I'd like. It's a stone and a half lighter than I was this time last year though, it's just this last bit that's not shifting.

I had plain yoghurt (Alpro Soya was the only one I could find, oddly) with a handful of blueberries. I am SHOCKED that I'm not hungry yet Hmm

Working out with a friend at lunchtime on the insanity workout/circuit class thing for about 45 minutes.

Still can't quite believe I'm not hungry; am I doing something wrong?

Not being hungry means that you are definitely on the right track! But lay off the blueberries - no fruit allowed in the first two weeks!

Just weighed on the wii fit, i bloody hate that thing!

12st 2lb Sad that is the heaviest i have ever been.

Am 5ft 7in - wii says my ideal weight is 9st 11in i think it's lying tbh

So two stone, although i think that might be a bit much for me personally. Will go for a stone and reassess.

Oh, I got told upthread to put blueberries in instead of the banana I was planning Blush
Oh dear, I'm not very good at this Blush

Hokey 9st 11lbs is at the bottom of your healthy range.

No fruit at all for the first two weeks slatternly

And thanks, I didn't look it at that way, i think i would be too thin at that weight, i am a size 14 and would not look healthy being smaller than a 12.

Report
slatternlymother · 07/01/2013 10:21

Yes, I think you are a similar build to me; I am a couple of inches taller and about 6lbs heavier than you.

I think my bottom range is 9st 13lbs, and I can't imagine myself being able to get that low. Even at 11st dead when I was running 4 miles every day, I looked very slim and was a small 12. I could try, but I doubt I could be lighter than 11st.

I just want to shift a stone for now, get into my healthy BMI range and tone up a bit.

Hopefully the blueberries I had won't matter overly, just for today, if I'm working out over lunch.

I've inputted my weight and realised I'm one of the heaviest on there - eek! Good motivation though. It's amazing how delusional you can be about your weight - a size 18 and 16 stone is not 'curvey' it's fat!

Anyhoo, as mentioned before I have lost a lot of weight on low carb before so I thought I would share some things that have worked well for me in the past (and will hopefully again!)

  • "Black Farmer" products are excellent - sausages, burgers etc. All v.low carb because they aren't filled with a load of rubbish. Good to keep cold sausages in the fridge for breakfast on the run (dipped in english mustard!)

  • Birds Eye Simply Baked to Perfection range is very good to keep in the freezer for when you have forgotten to shop. Not the sweet chilli prawns though (obviously) although they are delicious.

  • If nobody has said it already - courgettes are excellent as a pasta substitute. Just ribbon them with a potato peeler (stop when you reach the seeds as they are too watery) and saute briefly. Not to cook, just to take the rawness of them. I often cooks lardons for a bit, add the courgette, cook a bit longer and then a dash of cream until reduced. Finish with Parmesan. Kind of like carbonara.

  • Again, if nobody has said it already, cauliflower mash. Sounds disgusting, tastes great. Especially as on this 'diet' you can put a huge amount of butter in it! Once you've boiled and drained cauliflower, make sure you put back on heat for a bit to make sure it's really dry otherwise the mash is a bit watery. Nice for a shepherds pie topping.

  • It sounds obvious, but when you are out for supper make sure you ask them to replace chips (or whatever) with green beans etc. Don't ask for them as a side dish as you'll get charged for them! (Took me ages to work that out - doh!)

  • If you are stuck out, sandwich fillers are often your best option. If you have an M&S near you try their prawn cocktail (full fat, obviously) its gorgeous and v.filling.

WOW...sorry, longer than intended. Hope this helps people!

Gosh the thread moves quickly!

Ok weigh in this morning - 12 stone 6.... 11 pounds on since the beginning of December Carbs hate me. I am disgusted with myself letting it go that far.

I want to finish up around ten and a half stone, I'm 5 foot 8, so two stone.

Weighed in this morning - 11 stone 2, pretty much the heaviest I've ever been. Have put on nearly a stone since the summer Blush. I would really like to get back to my 'fighting' weight of 9 stone 7 (can't believe I used to think that was fat when I was younger, it seems impossibly slim now!)

Really looking forwards to this diet though - after being properly vegetarian for years I have started eating a bit of fish again after reading Briffa's book. Am feeling a bit guilty about it but hoping the health benefits will make up for it!

Greek yoghurt for breakfast (with blueberries, didn't realise about the fruit thing but won't buy any more after these are used up)
Lunch - smoked salmon with green salad & avocado
Dinner - omelette & buttered green veg with a tiny sprinkling of feta
