MulledwineGless · 04/01/2013 20:24

Bovril is a beefy drink - like marmite you either love it or hate it! Lo salt also contains potassium which you need

Cold- how old is DS? They just need to keep trying it
Mine wouldn't eat broccoli but I kept putting it on their plate. Eve tuly they tried it and both eat it. Currently on same battle with cauliflower!!

MrsHerculePoirot · 04/01/2013 20:26

Style - if that's all that's on the ingredients then perfect low carb
Fodder!

NoveltySlippers · 04/01/2013 20:54

Evening all!

The good news - I've lost four pounds! Been low-er carbing since Jan 1st.

The bad news - I've broken out in spots (on my chin - this is The Place To Be for my spots - apparently hormonal).

However - I haven't had spots in a looong time. Maybe six months? Maybe longer? Then I low carb for four days and bam!

My Q: I thought low carbing was good for skin? Anyone else had breakouts when they first went low carb? Maybe this is is just my body adjusting to a dietary change? I hope it doesn't happen again!

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 04/01/2013 20:58

Novelty - it is good for your skin, but I think you have to go through a period of adjustment. No doubt it's something to do with hormones (it usually is!)

Keep on keeping on, and drinking the water, and it will soon settle down.

MulledwineGless · 04/01/2013 20:59

Novelty
I don't remember getting spots but then I only suffer infrequently from them. However I did have problems with periods whilst my body was adjusting to fat burning rather than carb burning. Your body will have been carb loading for years and needs time to adjust

cocolepew · 04/01/2013 20:59

Novelty, I have a spotty chin too, it's where I used to get them when I was hormonal. My mum says its the bad coming out of me Grin

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 04/01/2013 21:05

Goodness, I must have been very bad along the way ...

NoveltySlippers · 04/01/2013 21:07

Thanks all - yes, will keep drinking water, and hope it sorts itself out!

Yes - I've definitely been carb loading for years. It will be a shock to the system in lots of ways I suppose.

Cocole keep me updated on your progress!

Day 4 for me, and 4lb down! I've not had any of the headaches or other bad side affects, which is great. Missing fruit more than the cakes and chocs I usually love. Went to a coffee shop with friend this morning, and she had a scrummy looking cupcake. Tbh I didn't really mind, which is unusual. Finding drinking all the water a challenge though. My question is:
I go to at least a couple of buffets a week. Always sandwiches, bharjis, spring rolls, crisps and cakes/biscuits type stuff. Any tips for how to manage?

coolkat · 04/01/2013 21:12

Just checking in as fallen off threads I am on.

Yesterday I had bolognaise with lots of brocilli and cauliflower and added cheese and it was lovely.

Today meals have been great - meat salad cheese etc but have shamefully snacked This is my biggest problem and one I am working on Sad

Tomorrow is a new day ......

Bessie123 · 04/01/2013 21:16

Today I have had:

breakfast - scrambled eggs with a bit of butter
lunch - braised celery with Boursin-type cheese and Parmesan, a bit of smoked salmon
Dinner - braised Brussels sprouts with cream, the rest of the braised celery and a salmon fillet with one small chopped tomato, a teaspoon of pesto, butter and a few capers

This is day 3. So far I have lost... Wait for it... Nothing

If I haven't lost a decent amount by Monday morning I am going back on the sugar.

Bessie123 · 04/01/2013 21:17

I also had a cup of black coffee, a bit of squid and 2.5 l of water through the day

Any tips?

mumat39 · 04/01/2013 21:18

MrsHercule, Ewan, WillieWaggle, captainmummy,MulledWine, Roobs, BIWI, Doshu you have all been amazing today.

I must admit I was feeling a bit stuck the last few days. Your advice and suggestions and just general kindness has made me feel inspired so much so that I just made my first cauliflower rice, to have with the mince beef basic chilli I made for my DC that they didn't like. I'd normally have just felt sorry for myself, but I thought great, I'll have it with some of that rice. And it tasted really good. The chilli doesn't have any beans. I added some Tabasco and some more salt and it was really yummy.

I am actually really full but i find though after eating something without carbs ( I've tried this before but always stalled after day1), I always get this 'watery' feeling in my stomach and my mouth waters a lot. I know a lot of posters on here have already reported that the sweet thing passes so I'm hoping it will for me too. Is the water thing normal? Is the anyway of getting rid of it?

Humphrey, I hope your tonsillitis is better soon. I get that a lot esp when I'm run down and the best thing that works for me is to gargle with very salty warm water, ESP before you o to bed at night. I don't mind the taste esp as I know it works so if you can stand the idea it really is the best thing I've ever found to help me. If I can't do this in the day, hen I definitely do it last thing at night and I always wake up with the soreness reduced. I hope this helps a little. Oh and the other one to try if you're taking paracetamol anyway is to crush the tablets into warm water and gargle with that and then drink it. Obviously the salt water you'd spit out. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Womenandchickensfirst · 04/01/2013 21:18

Oh, and I've got a couple of cookbooks with some lovely recipes in, including a pizza which looks good, which I will post on the recipe thread when I've tried it. I am known for my baking, and take cakes with me wherever I go, but don't feel the need to eat them normally, but feeling apprehensive about making them this week!
I too have my first spot in months Sad

TooImmatureMincePies · 04/01/2013 21:19

All set to start tomorrow - bring it on! Slightly scared of the scales, though.

MrsHerculePoirot · 04/01/2013 21:22

Woohoo Mumat - I have never got round to making cauliflower rice so I am very impressed!!! DCs will start to enjoy your food more and more, it is a change for them too, and not one they've decided for themselves if that makes sense.

Bessie, did you measure yourself? There are some posters who have lost inches but no weight for a few weeks and then it has come whooshing off. Measuring and the general feeling of feeling better kept them going for the longer term.

OP posts:
TooImmatureMincePies · 04/01/2013 21:23

I have my first spot in months too and I haven't even started yet. To add insult to injury I've lost my concealer, grr!

cocolepew · 04/01/2013 21:23

Another thing if you have a sore throat is to smear the front of your throat/neck in Vicks.
Novelty, I got 4 or 5 red spots on monday, the were pretty big but haven't come to a head I managed not to pick. They are starting to go down now.

TooImmatureMincePies · 04/01/2013 21:24

Bessie, stick it out for a week and see where you get. It really does work!
