Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 16:36

NotAgain I'm not sure I entirely understand your post Confused

I tried today "fatty kind of" chicken - but got confused is 5.2 carb a high count or acceptable.

What does this mean? If you're buying fresh chicken, there won't be any carbs. What did you buy?

Now I feel like reading every label, even though I thought I pretty much "on the ball".

Yes - absolutely! Read every label so you know how many carbs are in the foods you're buying.

Any guidelines for meat? Or should it be only home-cooked when you are sure of what you use for cooking?

Fresh/pure - i.e. unprocessed meat/fish is always best. There are no/very few carbs in meat/fish. Are you buying ready meals? These are always carby because of the extra ingredients - usually sugar in some guise.

Cake - cheating is cheating! This WOE is very unforgiving, as you have just found out! Back to strict Bootcamp and you'll be fine. Sorry to hear you're not going away though.

Ewan you make a good point about weighing. Personally, I'm a daily weigher. This is what keeps me on track. I always know that I'm trying to avoid the fall-out of bad behaviour if i don't get on them in the morning! If you're a daily weigher it does give you a good insight into how your weight varies naturally - i.e. that your weight can go up and down in a way that is seemingly unrelated to what you've been eating/drinking. I also plot my weight on a spreadsheet each day [nerd alert] and it does help me to see the overall trend, over time - this can be really, really helpful if your weight loss is slow. It's very easy to get downhearted and think nothing's happening - but when you see the line gradually going down over the weeks, then you know that you're doing the right thing!

Having said that, it can be disheartening to see the scales go up by a couple of pounds or so, especially when you know you haven't cheated. If you can't cope with this, then definitely only weigh weekly.

halfthesize Way to go! Clothes fitting is by far the most rewarding thing - even better than a lower number on the scales.

Princess Measuring is a good idea, as long as you can always get the tape measure in the same place! I gave up on that - but I use clothes as my guide. I have jeans or a dress that I keep trying on.

Ilovemyteddy · 06/10/2012 16:41

YY to BIWI's daily weighing post ^^

I'm a daily weigher and have lost f*ck all this week. I think i'm not eating enough! But altho I feel like I've hardly lost anything for weeks I have actually lost 8lbs since coming back from hol 4 weeks ago.

God Bless the spreadsheet Grin

Hi all

viper now didn't I say it was gonna be sunny?? Grin. Beautiful day. Just a lovely weekend break with the family. Am v jealous of you, it's a lovely place.

Not being entirely bootcamp friendly... but not too bad considering.

there has been wine

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 17:09
Shock
GreenEyesAndHam · 06/10/2012 17:11

I know

DIYapprentice · 06/10/2012 17:29

Ewan - if I had only weighed on Monday and my weight was the same I would have been utterly depressed. As it is I'm fairly sure today's weight was a blip, and by adjusting my diet slightly and increasing my water intake I can drop back down.

Biwi - oops, didn't read your post until after lunch. Avocado in my salad. But at least it was a salad, with cooked chicken breast and some mayonnaise for dressing. I really prefer the cooked veggies to a salad, but I know they tend to have slightly higher carbs.

halfthesize · 06/10/2012 19:05

Shock @ GreenEyesAndHam and quickly hides my glass of proseccoWink

My slow roasted crispy duck and spicy chilli beef were lovelySmile served with cucumber and spring onions, DC had pancakesSmile

Viperidae · 06/10/2012 19:06

Green Eyes It has been a lovely day here, you can come more often!!

I am in the weekly weighing camp. I find daily weighing quite stressful and the very idea of measuring Shock

Have been good today. Bacon and asparagus frittata for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch and just about to make salmon in prawn sauce with celeriac chips and green beans for tea. Not enough water though.

Have accidentally invited the in-laws to tea tomorrow so have preplanned and made a slightly modified Delia recipe of chicken breasts with mushroom stuffing and marsala sauce, creamed leeks and tenderstem broccoli. Will have to do a pudding so am going to do a layered thingy of sugarfree jelly, IPD raspberry mousse and berries to minimise the damage. If I don't make and eat a pudding they will feel obliged to share their thoughts about my weight and their wisdom about healthy eating which, believe me, will not end well I might just kill them and enjoy it

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 19:22

Maybe I should re-jig Bootcamp rules to say that wine is OK at the weekend !

Mind you, if I do that, you buggers will all start drinking it during the week as well! Grin

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 06/10/2012 19:29

If I havent lost a shedload of weight come Monday I will be most annoyed. These strong tablets have me going to the loo continually. Surely, there cant be more water to come out?

Although movement is minimal at the moment, currently horizontal on sofa with laptop.

foosty · 06/10/2012 19:34

wine is ok at the weekend, you say?? so a glass of red shouldn't be too bad??

please please please please please

I need a wee treat.

Have decided that as of Monday I'm going to cut out dairy for next week (except butter). I'll get a milk substitute for my tea, won't have any cheese or greek yog. I feel it may be stalling me. Worth a try? I doubt I'll miss it much tbh.

Am also going to just buy the veg you listed above, BIWI, and stick to simple meals for a while...think I'm trying too hard to make everything really tasty but that invariably involves adding cream/creme fraiche/greek yog to sauces.

Hope everyone's having a nice Saturday night...I'm already bathed and in my pj's, ready for trashy tv...

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 19:35

Merlin ... Grin

MmeLindor · 06/10/2012 19:43

I opened this thread, noted that BIWI had said that wine is ok at weekends, and before BIWI could twitch her big stick, had a cheeky wee Riesling poured. Off to read the thread now

vnmum · 06/10/2012 19:51

I am a daily weigher too. Keeps me on track.

I have also noticed that I am losing a fair amount this week compared to normal weeks and I think it is down to me cutting out the cream and cheese.

Had chicken fajita lettuce wraps tonight with homemade salsa, guacamole and creme fraiche and chive dip (no sour ceam in lidl). I actually much prefer using the lettuce as wraps rather than a tortilla now, it is much lighter and not as stodgy afterwards.

DH has gone to the shop for some cakes and biscuits for himself (don't ask, he's going through a can't be arsed stage), he asked me if I wanted any and I genuinely don't which is a very good sign Smile

MmeLindor · 06/10/2012 19:58

vmum
I do think that you would be better to get some savings behind you. We moved back to UK after years of living abroad and found it v difficult to get a first mortgage. Some banks wanted 20% deposit - we were lucky that we were buying in Scotland where the prices are lower. Couldn't have afforded it down saaaarf.

I normally weigh daily, but it has been quite good to not be able to this week so might reconsider.

halfthesize · 06/10/2012 20:46

jax really hope things improve soon.

Your right BIWI we would sloshing with wine and water had to be done, its required when watching MerlinWink

Viperidae · 06/10/2012 21:04

Can I warn you all in advance, don't ever bother making the raspberry mousse from the IPD cookbook. I've made it twice now and neither lot would set so have wasted almost 500ml of double cream and 2 sf jellies, not to mention splattered the kitchen by using the electric whisk, overheated said whisk and shouted at DH (just because he was there Grin)

Personally I think it's BIWI sending anti-pudding-in-bootcamp vibes!

I need alcohol to help me through the failed pudding and impending in-law blues now!

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 21:06

Better pudding idea - mixed berries with a white chocolate sauce (melt equal quantities of white chocolate and cream - if you can get low carb chocolate, even better!) If you can't, then you just have cream, everyone else has the chocolate sauce

hurricanewyn · 06/10/2012 21:13

Evening all

I'm usually a daily weigher, but haven't had a scales this week (bought one this evening so will weigh tomorrow AM). I've found it really hard this week to stay motivated (in fact I'm planning on adding an extra week of bootcamp on as I've had such a crap week this week).

Nevermind - lots of water, lots of fat & hopefully I can put it right.

Today I've had

B - two aldi sausages & an egg (these were tge ones I mentioned yesterday & were vv nice)
L - Cucumber & cheese
D - Duck Breast, cauliflower & celeriac dauphannoise

I've just had a litre of water so far, so need to get glugging.

hurricanewyn · 06/10/2012 21:18

For pudding - what about dark chocolate & cream, melted together & mixed , with enough choc so that it set a little bit thicker than mousse but not solid, then make a coulis with raspberries & truvia?
