Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

BIWI Jobs in the local area in this field don't come up that often. We aren't desperate for me to go back to work as in we manage on one wage for monthly costs but we have nothing spare to save. DH is due out of the forces in 8 years max and we have no savings whatsoever to put towards buying our own house. If I get work then once childcare payments are covered we could put the rest of my wage into savings. We are concerned of where we will end up once he gets out if we have no savings.

DH has said that if i can't find work that fits in with the children and him going away then he is fine with that but will then have to try and go away more often to earn extra money for the savings (he isn't going this year now due to injury so it would be about a year from now before he would be away). I would like to contribute something towards our future but it is hard trying to get work in an different field that may have better hours without the relevant experience.

There are childminders in the area that cover overnight care but I would need them to be flexible without charging me the earth for place retention. A big ask of them, I know. The job is in the veterinary industry and I would only need to do a night shift if we had an inpatient in that needed to stay overnight. I wouldn't know if I was needed for the night shift until later on the actual day which I know may pose a problem for the childminder as they would want notice but I would not want to be paying £100 a night if they weren't actually needed.

Mme There are a few childminders on base, and I would probably look at those first as they would be understanding of my situation. I don't want to rely on friends as it may put a strain on the friendship.

I was going to say that I have got options in place at the interview but then started worrying about what would happen if I couldn't find someone at the time.

What a dilemma, and I haven't even had an interview yet, lol

Evening ladies Smile

Breakfast was a whole packet of king prawns!
Lunch was bacon and scrambled eggs
Dinner is smoked haddock with garlic and parsley butter and little gem, carrot and cucumber!

BigBroomstickBIWI · 05/10/2012 18:46

Princess - not much veg/salad going on there ...

sybilfaulty · 05/10/2012 18:47

Hello ladies

Terrible cold here, feel rubbish, very shaky and shivery but doing OK on the food. Am reading and trying to drink water. THinking of you all.

butterflyexperience · 05/10/2012 19:02

Whats the difference between this WOE and Atkins?

WillieWaggledagger · 05/10/2012 19:22

Am catching up on parade's end. It's good but they have jut had a typical scene where everyone is saying merry Christmas and there are leaves on the trees!

Good evening everyone.

Feeling a bit rubbish today. Very tired late afternoon and had to nap. Have eaten so much it's ridiculous!

Lunch was ardenne pate and baked chorizo.

Dinner was baked red peppers with fresh crabmeat in one half and king prawns with mayonnaise in the other. Finished off the whole packet of king prawns. Only managed 1l of soda water so far and a glass of bitter lemon.

Tomorrow will be a lighter day or I'll burst.

Get well soon everyone who is unwell.

BigBroomstickBIWI · 05/10/2012 19:27

butterfly - to be honest, probably not that much. However, the rules I've created are about making it as easy as possible for people, so there isn't any weighing/counting

Also, I am trying to encourage people not to rely on/use artificial sweeteners, which may be different from Atkins (can't remember)

And Atkins has definite stages to go through, which is different from Bootcamp. His approach is about everyone working out exactly how many carbs they can eat per day.

caramelwaffle · 05/10/2012 19:29

That would drive me mad.

tartiflette · 05/10/2012 19:38

Oh my good Lord - KALE CRISPS where have you been all my life?!

catstail · 05/10/2012 19:39

interesting observation here - even though Im a bit rubbish at boot camp I am eating a lot less carbs than normal, anyway, today, at a time of day (3pm) when i might normally be so utterly exhausted I need a nap, today I didnt feel tired at all, nor hungry, but I had those weird symptoms you get when youve had a shock - fuzzy headed, shakey, need a mars bar!!

I am guessing it is something to do with body chemicals and hormones and the lo carb diet?

BigBroomstickBIWI · 05/10/2012 19:44

Eating fewer carbs is all about the hormones!

Your body is producing less insulin as there is less sugar to deal with. You are also encouraging your body to switch from carb-burning to fat-burning.

You absolutely do not need a Mars bar.

catstail · 05/10/2012 19:46

he he he - i did step away from the mars bars and had a plate of cucumber celery and carrot (sorry again) sticks with soft cheese

MrsHerculePoirot · 05/10/2012 19:51

Horrible afternoon, managed to drive into the back of someone (in slow moving traffic) - DD was in the car (and fine), person I drove into was elderly man (also fine but very shaken which really upset me). I just feel so awful, don't really know how I did it. Have just about managed to stop shaking and crying, but have been terrible with food is evening. Going to bed soon - hope a good's night sleep will make me feel better and less stiff tomorrow. Sry to offload, just feel so annoyed at myself.

butterflyexperience · 05/10/2012 19:58

BIWI - I understand about the working out carbs thing.
I so don't do it Blush but am otherwise following atkins which is a bit stricter than bootcamp but otherwise along the same lines.
I belive the new stance on sweetners is to avoid as it adds to your carb count and this WOE is about getting rid of the craving for sugar.

Must admit I've tried this WOE a few times get too just over the week and cave in even though Im not craving. It's my mental attitude. I REBEL against it all.
How crazy is that?
This time I think I've cracked it.
I'm fed up of being fat :(

mmeLindor - I've been off MN & blogging for a while too for various reasons. I came back for this thread :)

vnmum · 05/10/2012 20:03

hope you feel better soon MrsHP, it can be such a shock when something like that happens

BigBroomstickBIWI · 05/10/2012 20:12

MrsHP - I'm so sorry - take it easy and look after yourself this evening. Glad no-one was hurt.

NewStartSameStory · 05/10/2012 20:17

I have slipped up this evening. It wasn't good. However, have just had a call to say I have late training and why wasn't I there already for pre-training prep Blush I'd forgotten so hopefully 2 hours intensive will help undo damage. Although it is beginning to look like a 24hr day today

You are fabulous with all of the advice and I will come back and read that link later, thank you. Must fly veeeeeeeeery late.

BigBroomstickBIWI · 05/10/2012 20:24

I'm honoured, butterfly! Let's hope we can keep you on the straight and narrow for longer than a week Grin

fufulina · 05/10/2012 20:31

Hola, all. Mrs HP, sorry about your shunt. Hope you're all good? Lovely to see such a fast moving thread, and so much to catch up on! Lots of lovely, low carbers! I missed you! In fact, I think you did keep me on track on holiday. Just posted on the other thread, put on 1kg in two weeks and am delighted. Back on it today, and onwards and downwards.

Livelongandprosper · 05/10/2012 20:44

What a shock MrsHP. I'm not surprised you are feeling wobbly, I hope you get some sleep tonight and you feel better tomorrow.

Livelongandprosper · 05/10/2012 20:50

I was doing so well today. Chose something suitable when I went out for lunch with DP. Then the chef came out to see us and apologised for the standard of our lunch, he was not happy with the quality of his ingredients. By way of an apology he sent out two free bowls of home-made jam rolypoly with custard - we were sitting in the cold pub garden because we had the dog with us. I expect he must have thought it would warm us up. It did. Bugger.

SingingTunelessly · 05/10/2012 20:59

Flaming heck, I am honestly trying to catch up on thread but seriously HOW many posts?!! I have been lurking a bit as thought Bootcamp was a bit tough for my wimpy peanut/wine loving self but today the scales say 2lb down. Yippee!

Anyway, to start vnmum do not beat yourself up about working. They will be fine. Honestly. Smile

Gless. Hope you're ok.

Bloss. You make me smile with your battle of the nightly glass. I used to love red wine then realised it doesn't love me sadly. Or rather it does too much, mainly on the tum and hips Grin. I still love it though. Sad. It's Friday so will make do with a vodka, soda, lime and ice. Yum.

Right, off for a catch up. Really hope all the new comers to this woe are loving it.

ForSaletotheHighestBidder · 05/10/2012 21:12

I have really noticed a difference today re hunger, I forced myself just now to have some brie and salami, but honestly not particularly hungry. Normally at this hour I am a couple of hours after dinner and am craving something sweet, even though I don't generally have a sweet tooth.
The family had lasagne and garlic bread earlier, I picked at some of the cheese I grated over the top and had a couple of teaspoons of the meat. Go me avoiding homemade garlic bread with tons of lovely butter and fresh garlic! Grin

mrsHP, hope you are feeling a bit better and are happily snoozing.
Vnmum, try not to fret about how a new job will potentially operate until you actually have the job! There are always ways to work these things out.
gless, have just realised what you were talking about re funerals etc. I'm so sorry. Sad

I am having some no carb alcohol with my salami and cheese, feel very decadent!

JessicaWakefield · 05/10/2012 21:22

Vnmum the message that you posted earlier today really touched me. If it's any reassurance my DM returned to work FT when I was 8 and my DBs were 10 and 6. I don't remember it being an issue at all, it just became our normality and it definitely didn't affect our relationship with DM who we are all hugely close to. She ended up being really successful in her field and as we got older she got lots of opportunities to travel which she loved. She was fulfilled, happy and earning and without a doubt that had a very positive impact on our family life. She's now semi-retired so doing bits of work that interest her but spending an increasing amount of time using her professional skills to do voluntary work abroad. Good luck with whatever decision you come to and Thanks.
