Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

Hi all,

Feeling absolutely rubbish. Caught DS2's cold, and am completely congested, fuzzy headed and have a sore throat. Such a generous child... Hmm.

Feeling peeved off too, weighed myself this morning and I'm back where I was on Monday! Hopefully its just a bit of constipation from all the medication I'm taking (please, please, please...!!!). I have had a few too many processed meats as well, which probably hasn't helped. But I usually (when I remember) take psyllium husk capsules before meals which are supposed to help. Didn't have enough water yesterday though, so am downing it like mad this today.

I will be so disappointed if I haven't lost any weight on Monday morning. Sad

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 12:12

DIY - sorry to hear you're feeling so rubbish Sad.

List out your meals for us, and let's see if we can spot anything that might be causing you a problem.

DIYapprentice · 06/10/2012 12:23

B: scrambled egg with a few slices of ham, 3 sliced mushrooms in it
L: some sliced salami with homemade guacamole (just avocado and mayonnaise)
D: small chicken and sweetcorn soup (Blush not good I know), small amount of beef in black bean sauce, and a small amount of chicken and sweetcorn but didn't eat the sweetcorn.

Wasn't feeling overly hungry at the time so they were small serves.

Snacked on a couple of small Kabanos which only have trace level of carbohydates according to the packet.

Not enough veg and salad I know, and I know I didn't have enough water.

All that processed food has probably caused me to retain water and be slightly constipated

I just felt so ill I wasn't up to cooking!!!!!

TellMeLater · 06/10/2012 12:27

I fell into a big heap of sugar yesterday - and once I'd started I found it tricky to stop. Trying hard not to berate myself too much and just get back onto the low carb wagon today. Sad

halfthesize · 06/10/2012 12:28

Morning all

MrsHP sorry to hear about your bump, hope you feeling ok today x

Doshusallie that menu sounds fabSmile

I hope everybody who has been feeling poorly is on the mend..

Wohoo Humphrey

Am just preparing a duck to slow roast smothered in chinese five spice for dinner later. Cant wait. Grin

Doshusallie · 06/10/2012 12:50

Feeling really guilty about posting that link to the pudding now, not very helpful was it girls, sorry!!!

CakeMeIAmYours · 06/10/2012 12:56

Ate a slice of carrot cake Blush

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 13:04
Shock

THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH CHEATING GOING ON. WE HAVEN'T EVEN FINISHED WEEK 1 YET!

Honestly, folks, if you want to get into that LBD by Christmas, this isn't going to do it for you. Bootcamp is hard. It's meant to be hard - and it is like this to achieve maximum weight loss in a short period of time.

Was that sweetcorn really worth it? Was that cake really worth it? Is the chocolate really worth it? Because it will mean you are likely to have re-gained anything that you have lost already this week. Seriously.

DIYapprentice · 06/10/2012 13:08

Yep, I did regain everything I lost, 1.5 kg Sad

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 13:16

OK. Here's what you need to do. Next couple of days keep your carbs really low - just eat salad or really, really low carb veg, e.g. :

Alfalfa sprouts, raw 0.4
Watercress, raw 0.4
Cabbage spring, boiled 0.6
Bamboo shoots, canned 0.7
Celery, raw 0.9
Chicory, raw 1
Lettuce leaf, butterhead,1.2
Broccoli, green, boiled 1.3
Broccoli, purple, boiled 1.3
Cabbage Chinese, raw 1.4
Curly Kale, raw 1.4
Cucumber, unpeeled, raw 1.5
Marrow, boiled 1.6
Spinach, raw 1.6
Lettuce, cos, romaine, raw 1.7
Broccoli, green, raw 1.8
Courgette (Zucchini), raw 1.8
Fennel, raw 1.8
Lettuce, Iceberg, raw 1.9
Radish, red, raw 2

Make the main focus of each meal pure, unprocessed protein - meat/fish/eggs - and make sure you have enough fat.

And drink plenty of water.

Nothing processed or artificial.

BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 13:22

But DIY - take it easy if you're feeling so poorly. Keep warm, don't stress yourself about it, keep taking lots of fluids.

If you're still constipated, a high strength (1000mg) vitamin C dose might help you, as well as being good for your cold. Get some effervescent tablets, then that will also help with drinking the water.

LaVitaBellissima · 06/10/2012 13:34

Can I eat peas? I am still feeling rubbish Sad I have been good, said no to brownies, prosecco & strawberries at yesterday's meeting.

The only cheating I've done is eaten some carrots and sweet corn, I didn't realise they were no no's Blush

The real test is not drinking wine whilst watching X factor but I feel rubbish anyway so probably won't fancy any

If I'm feeling up to it I'm going to have slow roast lamb with celeriac, can I use creme fraiche? I have 2 tubs in the fridge that DP bought.

WillieWaggledagger · 06/10/2012 13:39

Sorry you're still feeling poorly LVB

Sadly no peas as they are legumes and quite carby

Creme fraiche is fine as long as it's full fat and you're ok with dairy

OP posts:
BigBroomstickBIWI · 06/10/2012 14:05

You haven't looked at the allowed veg list, then, have you, LaVita!

No to sweetcorn and peas. Carrots aren't great. Yes, you can use creme fraiche, but just check how many carbs. It should be full fat and not light/low fat.

Doshusallie · 06/10/2012 14:11

Breakfast was a boiled egg and a bowl of Greek yog. Berocca, cup of decaf tea and two pints of water.

Lunch was in a greasy spoon in town, a bacon, sausage and mushroom 3 egg omelette with side salad and a bottle of mineral water. Pretty sure the bacon and sausage in it were cheapo versions but hopefully not too bad and very filling.

Doshusallie · 06/10/2012 14:12

Dh has lost half a stone just by cutting out bread potatoes pasta and rice!

NotAgainAndAgain · 06/10/2012 14:16

I tried today "fatty kind of" chicken - but got confused is 5.2 carb a high count or acceptable.
Now I feel like reading every label, even though I thought I pretty much "on the ball".
KNowing about veggies - great!
Any guidelines for meat? Or should it be only home-cooked when you are sure of what you use for cooking?
Thank you

NotAgainAndAgain · 06/10/2012 14:44

I have not lost a thing! None. May be not drinking enough - 4 pint a day only.
But still persevere. Will there be a tread Week 2? I really do not want to buy a new outfit for a familt wedding in December Sad Blush

vnmum · 06/10/2012 15:06

Afternon all.

foosty I have done my sums and while DH is here and can do some of the childcare we will be in profit (going off what I think the salary will be), when he is away we will break even termtime but will be paying more than I bring in during holidays. This is only for the 6 months or so that he is away, after that we will go back to being in profit. I am hoping there won't be as many tours when we pull out but it depends if they decide to send them elsewhere. If I get an interview and offered the job I am going to try it and see how things go. If it isn't going to work for when he is away I will have to rethink it then but I will have been there a year by then so hoping they may offer a compromise rather than me have to leave.

I went into toen today for the farmers market to get some lovely olives. There was a sausage stall giving tasters and with big boards advertising their various sausages and with big letters announcing 'All Low Fat'. I just thought 'oh dear and no thanks!'

I read this success story on Marks daily apple today. It shows the difference between low fat and low carb quite well I felt.

EwanHoozami · 06/10/2012 15:11

can I recommend weighing just once a week? It's much kinder to the soul.

I've had to put my scales somewhere that I can't just step on to them. On this WOE, especially in the first fortnight, weight is a bit erratic. Also, as many have said, it's entirely possible to drop inches but stay roughly the same weight.

PS if lack of sleep hampers weight loss then I'm royally screwed atm.

CakeMeIAmYours · 06/10/2012 15:22

To make matters worse, it wasn't even a spur of the moment thing - I actually baked the cake myself so there was clear evidence of pre-meditation, Your Honour (BIWIW) Sad

In my defence though, I was supposed to be going on holiday next week and had planned to relax the rules a little.

We've now decided not to go, so I thought I'd have a little consolation cheat today instead and get back to bootcamp proper tomorrow? Surely that's better than a whole week of drinking mini-cheating?

PrincessSparkle86 · 06/10/2012 16:03

OOOhhh i just started writing and then lost it all...isn't it annoying when that happens Angry

MrsHP sorry to hear you had an accident.. I hope your all feeling OK
vnmum I've never been to a farmers market but i'd love to give it a go..sounds like my kinda thing!
cake Oh no you didn't (shakes head) naughty naughty!

I see some of you are having tummy issues... I am too, hopefuly it will pass soon
Blush

God i hope the scales r kind to us all monday morning!

PrincessSparkle86 · 06/10/2012 16:11

Reading Ewan's comment on hiding scales and weighing once a week made me realise i haven't measured myself yet (was going to do this when bootcamp began...which bodyparts should i be measuring? I'm guessing hips and waist for defo! Who else measures themselves???

halfthesize · 06/10/2012 16:18

vnmum that article is very interesting and agree it does show the difference, also loved the look of the lamb dish at the top of the page. I do hope you work things out re work and child care etc, its a roller-coaster being parents it really isSmile

cake Blush drink plenty of water and be super good for the rest of bootcampWink

EwanHoozami I'm afraid I am a daily weigher, it keeps me motivated, but I have also been measuring myself since the start back in April, results are greatGrin

I have just had some corned beef for late lunch(1st thing I have eaten since Thursday) it was lovely. Drinking loads of water and my slow roasted crispy duck is cooking, along with chilli beef strips, my version of take out chinese.

Have also just tried on some jeans my very skinny sister gave me, size 8, and nearly squeezed in, just a few more pounds I thinkGrin I will try them on every time I fancy something bad to keep me motivated.

halfthesize · 06/10/2012 16:19

princess I did my bust, hips, waist, arms and thighsWink
