I've just joined slimming world, today is day 2.

Please can all those who have joined please come along and share your experiences, what you have eaten today, goals and cheer each other on?

I did ww 4yrs ago and lost 3.5 stone, this time I'm aiming to lose about 1.5 stone by christmas.

Today I've eaten a huge fruit salad and natural yogurt breakfast, tuna salad for lunch and I'm having jacket potato, salad and steak for dinner followed by all my syns on alcohol with dh as it's our wedding anniversary this week.

Stayed the same this week BUT at least I haven't put any on.

I've had a stinking cold for over a week and a painting deadline but I am on it for next week! I'm aiming for 2lbs off!

Hi there

Would like to join you all if that's ok?

I'm three weeks into SW and have lost 6.5lb (really wanted to get half stone tonight but hey-ho, will have to wait until next week!

I've done SW on and off for at least 15 years so a bit of a veteran! Always start of so well then fall off the wagon at about 2 stone and then put it all back on again!

Have a busy weekend ahead with a friends birthday celebrations so am aiming to lose that 0.5lb to get my half stone award - anything better than that will be a bonus!

Aspiemum2 · 22/10/2012 22:05

I've fallen off the wagon so badly Sad. Somebody save me, my motivation and willpower has disappeared and I didn't have much to begin with!

Xroads · 24/10/2012 08:31

come on! I'm def on the wagon yesterday was a brilliant on plan today with a 10 min jog, 45min exercise class and 20 lengths in the pool - was shattered but I pushed!

I'm pushing the fluids, making the right choices!

Today I'm going to have fruit and muller for breakfast, pasta, sweetcorn, cheese and spring onion for lunch, sw chips, beans and poached egg with a slice of wholemeal bread for dinner and I'm going to a spinning class.

I weighed myself today (a sly one) and it's the first time in ages I've been just under 10 stone! I was 10.11 and a half when i started when the kids went back to school.

Start everyday as a new day, be as good as you can be, exercise when you can and you will get there eventually.

Friday I was full of cold, had a water infection had stayed the same even though I thought I'd been good and I wanted to eat my body weight in chocolate! I restrained myself had a mini snickers and tried to be good on sat (went quite well as I was busy though I did have a chicken kebab with salad for dinner) but sunday was bad, dinner at the in laws, wine, things roasted in oil and 3 slithers of cheese cake!

I'm aiming for 2lb off per week until xmas now.........the race is on!

Hi All

Dont want to put anyone down but to do slimming world properly then you really should try to stick to the plan.

The plan is a third superfree food at every meal - at the same time as you eat all of the other food (ie dont have breakfast then have a walk then a banana that does not work!)

So the example xroads gives for dinner is swvchips, beans, poached egg and wholemeal bread this meal does not include any superfree? For lunch a lot of spring onion must have been eaten to make this superfree (sweetcorn is not superfree) - not picking on you - this was just the closest example of meals I could see.

PLUS - it is not a case of eat all you like of free food - it is eat until you are full with main meals all including the third of superfree!

I have found it really helps to start each meal by thinking what superfree food you are going to have then work round this - you need to check your veggies as all are not superfree - some common mistakes are sweetcorn, peas and parsnip - they are just free.
You could have a bowl of veggie soup immediately before or fruit immediately after a meal - but think a third and cut other elements of your meal down to balance things.

I have lost 3 stone so far and the whole idea of superfree puzzled me in the early days!

Good luck - and Aspiemum2 - dont give up - it is possible!

Chocchip88 · 24/10/2012 21:18

Hello! I joined SW tonight and I have a LOT of weight to lose. Gulp! Just writing a food plan to get me through tomorrow and am a little bit confused over the 1/3 super free. I understand it with meals but what about snacks? For example if I have 2 Alpen light bars as snacks throughout the day (I get extra A and B choices as I'm breastfeeding) do I need to also eat 1/3 of their volume of super free at the same time Confused
Also if after lunch I have a free Muller light as a pudding do I need to have 1/3 of the volume in fruit?
Thanks for any help

Chocchip88 · 25/10/2012 11:18

Another question! If a recipe states that it's free on extra easy does that mean it already contains the 1/3 of super free?

roundabout1 · 25/10/2012 12:20

Im going to be doing Slimming World online & am confused by the superfree & free. Rojon - you have explained it well. So The point is to eat healthily and by eating 1/3 superfree at each meal you will be reducing what you eat that is not superfree. Am confused by the free and gutted that peas & sweetcorn aren't superfree. My kids eat mainly peas & sweetcorn so would I have that in addition to lots of super free veg?

Rojom · 25/10/2012 16:42

Hi Chocchip88 (love the name) and roundabout1 - what SW would say is that if you want to do really well then superfree food should be your first choice for meals and snacks or if not then any other free food. Usually in a day I have 3 snacks - one mid morn - one mid afternoon and one in evening. Usually I have one of these as a piece of fruit - one is then another piece of fruit or maybe a hi-fi bar and the final one (usually evening) I have my healthy extra bread and some syns in the form of chocolate philadelphia! Like everyone I might then have other syns at night - bag of crisps, curly wurly, glass of wine etc. This seems to work for me as long as I am getting my third superfree at meal times. I try where possible to have a superfree veg at mealtimes - but sometimes along with free veg like peas or sweetcorn. I now tend to plan my meals around thinking "what is my superfree?" When I asked my consultant about recipe meals she said if another veg will fit with it that can be a good idea to bulk things out. I like soup (and making soup) and tend to freeze it in one person portions - so if nothing else I have a cup of veg soup first - then my meal and that makes me eat less at it - or I follow it with fruit.

Roundabout1 - if your kids like peas and sweetcorn at least it is a free food so go for that if it is going to be a chore to cook separately - I also buy frozen individual portions of veg to throw in the microwave for me and that helps.
Hope that helps people - I have hardly eaten anything "processed" in the last lot of months - do lots more cooking now but do struggle from time to time. I think the slimming world recipes are great and some are quite fast - I have started to write down my favourites so when I am stuck for a meal I look at my list to jog my memory. Every now and then I feel things are a little predictable I try out something new!

Chocchip88 · 25/10/2012 18:08

Thanks Rojom, that helps a lot.

KinkyandGhoulishDorito · 26/10/2012 16:07

Hi all

I've been doing SW since the end of July and had lost 1st 10lbs, but I have had a week off and I've gained about 4lbs. I am supposed to be going tomorrow morning to get weighed and I need you to make me do it, even though it will be painful. Sad Sad Sad

I need to get back on track. I still have loads to lose.

Aspiemum2 · 26/10/2012 17:52

Oh please go, i missed one meeting and totally fell off the diet so then I missed another one Sad. Know I'm struggling to get back on it. You've lost too much to risk it, the meeting will get you back on track - I'm going next week come hell or mars bars high water!

Aspiemum2 · 26/10/2012 17:52

Now not know

Xroads · 26/10/2012 18:13

Rojom - I'm not offended, I'm chuffed you have joined this thread, it will help us all.

I obviously haven't quite understood properly so I'm glad you can help me Smile

I'm having quorn, rice and broccoli and peas for dinner - how much of that is superfree?

OP posts:
SilverSky · 26/10/2012 20:05

Marks spot!

I joined today. The weigh in was eye opening. A bit too eye opening. Still got a shed load of baby weight to shift.

romjom I'm so confused! Confused Thought I knew what I was going to do. Not so sure now.

KinkyandGhoulishDorito · 26/10/2012 20:50

I will Aspiemum2 - we can get back on track together Smile.

Xroads 1/3rd superfree, so 1/3 should have been broccoli? Hope this helps. It sounds fine, and certainly better than a big pizza Grin.

Hi Silver. It does work, but you have to keep doing it. It's where I struggle!

franklin0 · 27/10/2012 08:33

just eat healthy food, avoid cheese and fatty things..most importantly do the yoga daily...

Clarabumps · 27/10/2012 13:37

Can I join..I joined last week and i'm just doing it online as I cant get to a class. Anyone else think the website it rubbish?? I cannot get my head around this AT ALL. My sister has been doing it and shes lost 10%of her target weight but because I don't have the books, I have no clue what I'm doing. So far I've lived a week on mugshots and baked potatoes and spag bol. I've lost 4lbs.
It just goes against the grain of everything Ive ever done while dieting. I always just cut out carbs especially starchy ones like potatoes. So this is wierd. It say limitless pasta..but does it really mean limitless?? Also..surely if you don't use up all these carbs they just store in your body as fat?
HELP!!BRAIN ABOUT TO EXPLODE!!

Clarabumps · 27/10/2012 13:38

I'm 14stone..I want to get down to 10 which was my pre babies, pre relationship, happy single person weight!

KinkyandGhoulishDorito · 27/10/2012 17:28

Clara aside from here, the minimins SW forum is worth a look for help and advice: www.minimins.com/slimming-world/.

The thing is, any diet stuck to will result in weight loss. So, stick to SW and it will go. Don't think, just follow. It does work Smile.

roundabout1 · 27/10/2012 19:19

I'm wanting to join SW online but not done it yet as it's pricey, have been following the diet, the extra easy & finding it really easy. I am probably doing it a bit wrong as I dont understand the other ones other than the extra easy but I'm wondering if I need to join at all. There are so many recipes & forums out there. What do you think?

KinkyandGhoulishDorito · 28/10/2012 08:33

roundabout I've been very lucky that I've finally found a really brilliant group and it has honestly kept me going, that's why I go to class now. I used to do online dieting, but once I hit a blip I would give up.

In terms of paying, if you understand what you are doing and just need a forum for support, I'm not sure - it depends how many times you expect to find out syn values, and things like that. Plus, you always have to be careful because many people who are paying (and still do even they go on minimins and similar) might feel affronted that they are passing on information that they have had to pay for.

I still think a lot of people who do SW seem to be going to classes still (and do on the forums), so if you can find a group I'd give it serious thought. I know it's not always practical.

The other thing is, it would depend on what you have to lose and how successful you are at dieting. If you know you can go it alone, and you don't have much to lose, then keep on as you are. The magazine has meal plans in and you can get that from the supermarket. If, however, you need the support or have a long way to go it might be sensible to try and get all you can. I thought I could do it alone, but this time has been the longest I've managed in years and it is because I am still going to group. I lost 5st in my early 20s too, and I always went to groups. I stopped going, relaxed and put lots back on. I've gone up and down by a couple of stones ever since because I start one diet, give up, try another. This time I have gone back, even after a bad week, and I finally feel like I might get somewhere.

I hope this helps. I'm not bothered if you want to ask anything, btw. Smile

Xroads · 28/10/2012 22:22

Right so had a weekend away - From fri eve - sun I ate..........

Skipped breakfast and went out for lunch had butternut squash in pasta with tomato and chilli sauce and cheese, not pudding.

Dinner - salad 2 slices of pizza and fruit salad

Sunday

cooked breakfast - scrambled egg, bacon no fat, mushrooms, 2 slices wholemeal toast with flora light and beans.
