Here is the new, shiny thread. Only three weeks or so to go until we swing into really strict mode!

Princess - just keep an eye on the sweetcorn - it's really carby

Lunch was a 3 egg ham and mushroom omelette with celery and some baby toms (as we now appear able to eat them Hmm) and added mayo.

Then my friend was admiring DH's coffee machine and I made her a latte from it, which looked so delish I had to have one too, so have had too many carbs from milk. Annoying.

Tea will be salmon steaks with cabbage in butter.

Princess - carrots are pretty carby too I think....

PrincessSparkle86 · 25/09/2012 17:26

dosh and gless i know both carrots and sweetcorn are quite carby i do limit them to small amounts... My weakness is defo babycorn! But i make sure i dont buy it very often.

Does anyone know the ideal daily carb intake for weight loss? I should know this already :-/

PrincessSparkle86 · 25/09/2012 17:27

Sorry i meant BIWI not gless lols

BIWI · 25/09/2012 17:44

If it's baby sweetcorn, then that's much lower than ordinary sweetcorn.

No reason why you should know the ideal carb intake for weight loss as there is no such thing! Or at least, it's different for all of us. Some people can tolerate more carbs than others.

That said, if you keep your carbs at around 20-30g per day, you should see weight loss. The thing you have to try and do is work out what kind of level is OK for you. Either you do that by rigorous weighing/counting, or by more haphazard means - just keeping an eye on your weight and also what you're eating, so that you get a feel for what is working/not working for you.

Thanks BIWI i always find it more testing when i have to figure things out for myself!! Ill give it a go though!!

Doshusallie · 25/09/2012 18:59

I'm feeling a bit "fuck it" tonight. Have had 2 v&ts and some pork scratchings. Will have my tea and hope it fills me up.

BIWI · 25/09/2012 20:01

Was it low cal/diet tonic? If so, not really that bad!

Doshusallie · 25/09/2012 20:04

Of course BIWI!

TellMeLater · 25/09/2012 21:29

Lovely food today.
Came back from my run and made low carb pancakes with strawberries and cream cheese - they were delicious.
For lunch I had 2 low carb savoury muffins topped with cream cheese.
Dinner was a lasagna made using low carb pancakes in place of pasta sheets, it worked really well.

Settling down now with a glass of wine.

halfthesize · 26/09/2012 08:09

Brekkie today was greek yoghurt, and have just swum 500m and run 2.5 miles.

TellMeLater · 26/09/2012 13:05

Interesting Podcast by Mark Sissons. He suggests limiting dietary fat for weight loss - that's new!

Doshusallie · 26/09/2012 14:51

Lunch: 4 rashers of bacon and leftover cabbage and courgettes

PrincessSparkle86 · 26/09/2012 16:24

dosh lunch sounds nice Smile

EwanHoozami · 26/09/2012 16:53

ooh that looks really interesting, tellme lots of q's that i'd love to know the answer to.

i was considering getting some ketostix, does anyone use them?

dh's contribution to my protein intake was coming home with a bucket full of venison liver last night (don't ask...)

Jacaqueen · 26/09/2012 18:06

I have been really busy the last few days which is good as it stops me thinking about food and what I am going to eat.

From experience I try and stick to around 20g of carbs per day to maximise weight loss. It is not always easy though to stay that low all the time.

roofergirl · 26/09/2012 22:10

Ewan I used ketostix in the past. They're not always reliable indicator of ketosis. If you drink tons of water for examPle the diPstick might only show a pale colour making you think that fat burning isn't happening as well as it should be therefor making you discouraged...or at least that's what happened to me.

Doshusallie · 27/09/2012 07:35

Really pissed off that I am still 9 3 this morning.

Tea last night was roasted courgette mushroom green peppers and 2 chicken breasts wrapped in cheese and bacon.

Am going to steer clear of Greek yog and dairy today and see if it helps.

Breakfast: 3 boiled eggs.

vnmum · 27/09/2012 08:24

Interesting podcast by Mark Sisson. He mentioned that as you become keto adapted after eating low carb for a few months then you probably wouldn't get a reading on a ketostick as the body will have adapted to using ketones for energy and therefore will be using them all rather than spilling them out in urine. This is why keto breath only lasts a short while.

There were some other interesting points so definately worth a listen.

BIWI · 27/09/2012 09:09

Thanks for that link, TML. That's really interesting about the fat (and if anyone else wants to listen, it's about 20 minutes into the podcast).

I would like to know more about it - the implication from what he was saying (or what I took from it) is that you don't necessarily change the proportion of fat, i.e. you're still eating fat:protein:carbs, but you lower the amount of food that you're eating, by fasting or missing the odd meal here and there. But not sure I necessarily got that right ... !

However, for all those who are low carbing, eating plenty of fat and seeing the weight drop, then obviously things are working. It's possibly a strategy to adopt when weight loss slows/stops?

PrincessSparkle86 · 27/09/2012 11:13

Ooo this is all getting do confusing for me now :/ after reading about the fating and doing what works for yourself Sad

Lunch today will be garlic roasted pork belly with mushrooms, little gem, cucumber and some shredded parmesan.. Yummy but calorific.. I know if im low carbing i dont count calories but when i add foods into my diary on MFP its shows me all the calories and its quite scary :-/ lols
Dinner will be 2 boiled eggs and some more salad!!

Doing a fair bit of walking today too, got to make the most of it whilst the rains away!Grin

PrincessSparkle86 · 27/09/2012 11:14

fasting not fating!

BIWI · 27/09/2012 11:26

Don't worry about the fasting thing - and it's confusing anyway, if you read any of the fasting threads, because everyone seems to be doing something slightly different!

Just stick to Bootcamp rules and you'll be fine.
