Here is the new, shiny thread. Only three weeks or so to go until we swing into really strict mode!

Please say it isn't true about leeks....was just feeling v virtuous after having some delicious homemade leek soup for lunch and now it seems i may have accidentally had a carb fest Sad

BIWI · 24/09/2012 17:57

I get really cross when the carb counts vary so much Angry.

Weightlossresources give cauliflower as 2.7g carbs per 100g

They also say 3.7g per 100g for leeks, so don't worry about that, cathyandclaire!

Tomatoes are relatively low, so I've never really understood why they are often said to be a no no.

Just back from a run in a surprising window of sunshine

I hope no one minds that I've adopted the spreadsheet... I feel a bit presumptuous and fiddle did such a fab job that all I did was some c&ping really! All offers of help/ suggestions for improvement very welcome. I'll put the spreadsheet up as a google doc tomorrow so you can all see it, and then I'll add any more newcomers in one go on Sunday night if that's ok

WineGless · 24/09/2012 18:31

MrsHP see what I did!
Wonders if anyone will spot me Wink

Food wise even ok today but the weekend was disaster with alcohol.
Having steak, peppered mushroom sauce and veg for tea.
Off to face the bath nd bed debacle

TellMeLater · 24/09/2012 19:45

I think part of the confusion is the fibre content. Will start exploiting new leek information and enjoying tomatoes with less guilt.

halfthesize · 24/09/2012 20:41

Eve all, just had a lovely dinner of roasted belly of pork with mashed swede it was scrummy.

Willie well done re the run and thank-you re the spreadsheet, your a starThanks

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/09/2012 20:55

WineGless what a brilliant name!!!!!

Doshusallie · 24/09/2012 20:58

Tea was leftover moussaka with salad and mayo.

Snacks have been a teaspoon of peanut butter, and 2 spoons of Greek yoghurt. And 1 brazil.

WineGless · 24/09/2012 22:12

1 brazil? Dosh how do you restrain yourself?

Mrs Hp- thanks for the idea Wink

Doshusallie · 24/09/2012 22:45

Well I would have had more and then remembered the PB.......Grin

halfthesize · 25/09/2012 08:25

Good morning all, its stopped raining here finallySmile

I have had a boiled egg for breakfast and off to the gym after school runs.
Thanks for advice re reintroducing carbs for DH.

Jacaqueen · 25/09/2012 08:46

No rain here bit very windy. Scales are refusing to budge. Stuck firmly at 12 st 12. They better bloody move during Bootcamp.

Going to use up supplies of nuts, cheese and cream in readiness for LBD.

BIWI · 25/09/2012 08:52

Good idea, Jac!

I'm starting to experiment with Intermittent Fasting, and have just done my first gym session without having eaten. I think I've posted this link before but this seems to suggest that exercise in a fasted state can burn more fat.

We'll see!

Yesterday:

B - 2 boiled eggs
L - small portion of Spanish Chicken (IPD recipe book) followed by yoghurt
D - Spanish Chicken, celeriac/cauli/leek mash, savoy cabbage

For dinner tonight we have the slow cooked pork in coconut and ginger, which I am very much looking forward to!

Breaky was 2 streaky bacon, 1 and a half cup of mushrooms and 1 egg scrambled Smile
Lunch will be something with salad.. Not sure what.
Dinner will be beefsteak with cheesey garlic mushrooms, carrots and green beans (maye a bit of spinch too)

Im puhing myself to stick to te three meals as on bootcamp and dont want to snack really :/

Doshusallie · 25/09/2012 10:13

Morning all - sunny here too.

B: Lidl Greek yoghurt. Yum.

9 3 this morning which is disappointing but understandable after all the wine on Saturday and the sheer amount of food eaten on Sunday, albeit low carb!

This triathlon on Saturday - to carb load or not carb load - that is the question....

BIWI · 25/09/2012 10:16

I am so in awe of you - a triathlon is simply beyond my comprehension! I can't advise re carb-loading, I'm afraid, as I simply don't know enough about it.

OP posts:
Doshusallie · 25/09/2012 10:26

Erm BIWI - let me qualify slightly - I am doing the run (4km) and the swim (400m), not the bike - I do them in a team, and usually only do the swim but our runner has dropped out! We are not talking Iron Man here! I guess a couple of bananas between events won't hurt.

TimeForMeAndDD · 25/09/2012 10:51

Doshusallie have you ever looked into MCT oil? It's a derived from coconut oil and is a fat that the body uses as a carb so you get the high energy effects of a carb load without the carbs. I'm using it alongside coconut oil to keep my healthy fats up while low carbing, it's marvellous stuff.

vnmum · 25/09/2012 11:51

weighed this morning, 3/4lb up on last week.

Dosh do you usually workout or train with out carbs? From what i have read here and there on the net (so don't take it as gospel) if your body is used to exercising with no carbs and burning fat then there is no need to carb load as your body will run continually on fat without the carb crash which can inevitably happen after a carb load. Apparently when you 'hit the wall' it is actually your glycogen stores emptying and your body not knowing what else to burn for energy. If you usually train with no carbs your body knows what to do and you don't 'hit the wall'. I guess you need to think what you eat around training and how you feel and work it out from there.

Disclaimer: I have never done a triathalon or any other endurance event and could be talking complete tosh, I just read quite a few paleo sites etc Smile

Doshusallie · 25/09/2012 12:56

VNMUM - yes usually work out on low carb, and in fact was flying on Friday after just a bit of greek yog, swim was no problem and ran 4km without even noticing! So yes, I think I will be ok without carb loading.

Thanks all! Grin

TellMeLater · 25/09/2012 13:57

I run on a low carb diet and find have have lots of energy. I only hit the wall when I am eating a carby diet - which supports what vnmum has said. I'm doing a 10k in a couple of weeks and I know I can get around the course but I want a good time, I was thinking about this earlier but I'm worried about hitting the wall. Weight lifters often carb load before weight lifting but they carefully calculate how much they need so they slide back into ketosis as soon as the event is finished.

PrincessSparkle86 · 25/09/2012 14:40

Hellooo just reporting in my lunch!

Ranch salad with chicken breast slices, salami and some sweetcorn, with tbsp of pickled red cabbage and grated parmesan Grin

BIWI · 25/09/2012 15:48

I managed my gym session this morning without having eaten anything, which I was very pleased about. Especially as it was quite a brutal PT session!

And.

I have bought a coat this afternoon, from Uniqlo, size SMALL. [GRIN] Everything I have ever bought from there has been large.

OP posts:
BIWI · 25/09/2012 15:48

Oooh look - grins don't work when you shout Grin

OP posts:
WineGless · 25/09/2012 15:49

Princess- that sounds yum apart from
The red cabbage part!

I am really interested in the fasted training - on study leave this week so planning in going to gym every lunch time as a break. I don't think I will last until after lunch though.
