Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

Oldbag definitely take a multivitamin and mineral supplement

Netheregions · 20/08/2012 16:52

Thanks for responding teaandthorazine and SingingTunelessly the bread thing really is a Dutch institute - I'm going to do my best to find the time to bake carb free pizza bases and freeze them to put toppings on - the salad for lunch thing has never worked for me it's the time of day I need to fill up on something substantial...

I remember carb flu!!! 48 hours was a quick recovery... lasted for weeks with me Confused

Jins · 20/08/2012 16:56

I think we may need to know how to bake carb free pizza bases.....

mummyduff · 20/08/2012 17:14

Netheregions - carb free pizza bases, please share how you make them, Ive been really missing pizzaSmile

Jins · 20/08/2012 17:16

If it's egg based I'm going to be gutted :(

SingingTunelessly · 20/08/2012 17:44

The carb free pizza base I make is out of the Low Carb Gourmet book. Unfortunately Jins that one has eggs in sorry. Sad. Not sure how you could do one without eggs as it probably wouldn't bind would it.

Jins · 20/08/2012 17:50

The only carb free one I can think of is like a thin omlette. Is that it? All the other recipes I've found in the past use ground almonds or cream or flaxseed which are obviously carby (although low carb)

I seem to remember one that used cauliflower. I'll have to have a look at the recipes

OlympiaMumsnet · 20/08/2012 17:57

I am back on the bandwagon

Jins · 20/08/2012 18:02

Welcome back Grin

I am staggered to see honey in the low carb ingredients on one of the recipes in the low carb section by the way. Nearly as staggered as I was to see wholewheat flour in the gluten free recipes.

SingingTunelessly · 20/08/2012 18:11

Jins, it's cream cheese, eggs, and double cream I think from memory. Plus some mozzarella and hard cheese of choice. Baked on its own then you add the toppings and grill. Very yummy.

Olivia, I take it you've got pâté or cheese on that cucumber?!

Jins · 20/08/2012 18:13

Yeah that's the one. :(

Gutted isn't the word for it. I can't bear the texture of egg white

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 20/08/2012 19:40

Have been having 3 and a half days of bad, bad cheating. I planned to cheat because it was DD's naming party on Sat, but was not planning on having so much food left over! I had to eat it because we spent far too much on the party and it would have been very wasteful to throw it all out. There's still a lot of christening cake left, and quiche and things. Not sure whether to restart Bootcamp tomorrow or whether to eat all the remaining cake and fruit salad first. Confused I'm not going on holiday this year so perhaps this can be my holiday equivalent?

Didn't dare weigh myself this morning. Blush

vnmum · 20/08/2012 19:41

well I have been tracking my intake today on one of those food tracking apps.
B- 2 boiled eggs mashed with butter, tsp coconut oil and boursin
L- 1 small baby gem lettuce leaf with tuna mayo (left over from ds) and left over emmental lasagne with small salad dressed in olive oil
T - 1 and half pork loin steaks with pesto served with salad dressed in walnut oil, 1/2 avocado, 15 pistachios and some mayo.

According to my tacker app this related to a whopping 3178 calories (most of that was probably my estimations of the left over lasagne, it is very cheese and cream heavy) not that we count calories anyway, but I would say this is not a typical day for me.
267g fat
160.5g protein
32.5g carbs

I definately ate more veg today than normal so must have been eating 20g ish of carbs recently.

will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings.

Thegoddessblossom · 20/08/2012 19:42

Greek yoghurt, meat, fish, cheese, Greek salad, tomatoes, gin, beer and (whisper it) a piece of bread. Just the one.

vnmum · 20/08/2012 19:50

oh I forgot to mention. I read that 'eat like a dinosaur' book and decided to get to grips with the DC diet. We decided to eliminate grains from the majority of their diet (they do still have porridge for breakfast but that is only until it is used up) for a few weeks before going back to school to see if their was any change in them.
They are sleeping better, not as moody or tantrummy and also not asking for snacks all the time. DS does tend to ask for a snack mid morning when he has had porridge but after a low carb lunch, doesn't ask in the afternoon.
For lunch I have been giving them, cold meats, cheese, cucumber, pepper or carrot sticks with mayo, handful of nuts, lettuce leaves with tuna mayo as lettuce wraps etc.
I did make them some almond flour pancakes at the weekend and they went down well.
I haven't eliminated dairy yet, even though the book says to, as I want to research other forms of calcium to ensure they are getting enough if I was to stop the milk and cheese, plus I don't know if dairy is an issue for them or not.

I am going to bake them some grain free treats like almond flour or coconut flour muffins/cookies because I don't want them burning their bodyfat as they don't have any!

SingingTunelessly · 20/08/2012 20:32

vnmum can I ask why you are tracking? Have you stalled or just interested in what your intake is? It is fascinating though when you look at it isn't it.

Loriliee just spotted your post about sts. You know this happened to me a few weeks ago and I was Sad. But weight started to shift again so keep on keeping on as the saying goes. Smile.

vnmum · 20/08/2012 21:30

singing because I am trying to maintain at the moment, until DH goes away in a few months, I have been looking at my eating patterns. I realised that even though I was trying to eat the 'primal blueprint' way I had got into the habit of only eating carbs, and a small amount, at one meal a day, which I realised was not healthy and could lead to deficiencies. So I decided to start tracking this week as DH is away and I have full control of the kitchen and food (he normally cooks) just to see if I ate normally i.e no fasting or limiting veg to one meal, the paleo way, how many carbs I was consuming daily. It will also be interesting to see what the scales say on monday as in essence I will have upped my carbs this week and spent less time in the gym (if any as DC at home).
Mark Sisson who wrote 'the primal blueprint' and of 'marks daily apple' fame suggests that you do not need to be very low carb to lose weight and that around the 50 - 100g a day is the sweet spot for weight loss.
We shall see Smile

But yes it is interesting. I did worry a little over the amount of calories I ate today (conventional wisdom dies hard) but I am putting faith in this woe and we will see on monday.

emmak86 · 20/08/2012 21:50

Question: why do de get stinky breath when in ketosis? Lol x

SingingTunelessly · 20/08/2012 21:50

Ahh vnmum - maintenance - I can only dream of that at the moment still too many pounds to go. Interesting what you say about only having carbs in one meal. That's what I seem to be doing now, although unintentionally, as I'm just not hungry until the evening when I have vegs with evening meal. Breakfast is hard boiled egg or two, coffee with cream then water throughout the day. If I get peckish late pm then it's a handful of nuts. I LOVE this woe as well. Grin.

HumphreyCobbler · 20/08/2012 22:03

I wish I could stop the stinky breath - I get it really badly. I certainly drink a lot of water. It is the only thing I dislike about this WOE.

emmak86 · 20/08/2012 22:05

Its weird isnt it... Just by cutting out potatoes and all that, you get the bad breath Sad

NigellasGuest · 20/08/2012 22:07

The dry metallic taste is as bad as the horrible breath

HumphreyCobbler · 20/08/2012 22:09

I don't get that so much Nigella. I am aware of a different taste in my mouth but it isn't too unpleasant.

I do get this incredible sense of well being whilst in ketosis though.

SingingTunelessly · 20/08/2012 22:11

Oh yes the dry metallic taste is horrible. Don't think I've had the bad breathe unless DH and friends are being kind to me which is unlikely!
