Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

Evening all Grin

Went round to see more family today an have been surrounded by yet more biccies cakes and desserts!! And i had to ask for no potatoes or yorkies on my roast!!! Felt a bit picky but had to
Be done did nt it!!

B- was skipped
L- lamb roast (minus the potatoes and yorkshires)
D- mini chicken fillets with boiled egg, lettuce, cucumber, salad cream
And some cheese!

Im definitely losing weight slower now.. Around 2lb a week.. Is this ok considering im still
Bootcamping?? Needing a bit of reassurance! In the beginnignof the week im always at my lowest and then it can fluctuate til next weigh in but im still normally loasing the 2lb when it comes to it....

X

teaandthorazine · 19/08/2012 19:40

I think 2lb a week is pretty normal at this stage, emma. Weightloss at the start is always quicker and then tends to level out. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water and eating fat, too - I find it really helps to keep the loss going. And well done on yorkie refusal Grin

emmak86 · 19/08/2012 19:42

Thanks for the reassurance tea Grin x

Hello there,
Am just starting low carb today for the first time ever. Looking for support and advice as I go along. I have spoken to a nutritionist as I have a chronic illness and have A Plan. It is roughly 100g carb a day for a short while. Did my shop today. Got a lot of meat!
I am vv motivated for health reasons but this may waneGrin
Feeling a bit apprehensive ..........

SharonGless · 19/08/2012 20:03

Medals have a look at this link www.telegraph.co.uk/health/8865136/Health-QandA-low-carbohydrate-diet-and-hair-loss.html. Seems temporary hair loss can happen at any time with weight loss on any diet

emma 2lbs per week is good weight loss. You are doing so well, keep it up

teaandthorazine · 19/08/2012 20:23

Hi cremola and welcome Smile

How've you found your first day low-carbing? It's interesting (and encouraging) that you've done this plan with a nutritionist - most are still very fixated with the low-fat, low-calorie mindset, so that's great that yours has recommended low-carb! This is a very healthy (and delicious) way to eat so hopefully you'll see some great results.

100g of carb a day is quite a lot more than most of us will be eating, but you're very welcome to join us anyway! I believe any reduction in processed carbs has got to be a good thing. Feel free to ask any questions you like, post menus, meals etc - good luck!

emmak86 · 19/08/2012 20:29

Thanks sharon Grin

Welcome crenola Smile x

Had a good day again today, DH pointed out that I had lost all the puffiness around my face that I had gained on holiday. I suffered so much with water retention before starting this WOE, and as soon as I started with the carbs on holiday my ankles and face swelled up.

It feels great to be back on track.

Oh my god, am actually sweating, it's soooo hot. (TMI?)

Soooo, today has been pretty good. Broke my 'fast' with a little lump of cheddar and a few pistachios (I know, rock'n'roll, eh?) Have just made a yummy Thai green curry with prawns (thai green paste, coconut cream) and replaced the rice with finely shredded steamed cabbage. The paste is fairly carby but I only used a very small amount. I reckon around 6-7g of carb for that dish. Lovely! Plenty of water and that's me done for the day Smile

Is it really terrible to hope the weather's a little cooler tomorrow?

Cremolavelodrome · 19/08/2012 21:15

Hi guys
Thanks for the welcome.
The diet is as follows:
20g breakfast
30g lunch
30g dinner
10g for milk in tea etc

There is no sugar at all within that obviously

This is approx half of daily normal diet apparently ( 230g)which is what I have probably been eating for the last million years - if not more.
I expect even this small change will make some difference.

What gram age are other people on? Is it no carbs at all or the v low carb -50-80g
The nutritionist reckons that might be a bit low for me with my illness and activity level but would be something to work towardsGrin

teaandthorazine · 19/08/2012 21:28

Cremola - the idea of Bootcamp wasn't to count carbs tbh, just to stick to certain foods, but I tend to keep a vague idea in my head of around about 30g a day. I find this keeps my blood sugar well in check and hunger at bay. Most of our carbs come from veg, with some from full-fat yoghurt, berries, nuts (chocolate, wine Blush)

I don't think any of us are trying to follow a zero-carb WOE. That would mean giving up vegetables, for a start! IMO that's unnecessarily restrictive and probably not terribly healthy.

WillieWaggledagger · 19/08/2012 21:41

Hi Cremola and welcome - that's interesting that your nutritionist is open to this. On an average day I doubt I get above 20-30g carbs and feel fab but have no health problems

Jins · 19/08/2012 21:51

Medal I had a lot of hair loss around 3 months too but it settles down and grows back pretty quickly. Any change of diet can do this.

Cremolavelodrome · 19/08/2012 21:52

Okey dokey- gotcha!
Thanks everyone.Smile
So far today have done q well.
Tell me some of your more interesting breakfasts.
What is the opinion on yogurt?
Is there a v low carb one?

teaandthorazine · 19/08/2012 22:04

For yoghurt you want to look for full-fat, Greek style. Total is good, or Lidl do a bucket of the stuff which is v low-carb and quite delicious imo.

If you're aiming for 20g for breakfast then you could also add some berries/chopped nuts/even a very light drizzle of honey.

The best low-carb breakfast is of course a fry-up! Low-carb sausages, bacon, mushrooms, eggs - just avoid the hash browns, black pudding and fried slice Grin

Cremolavelodrome · 19/08/2012 22:29

Ok so just count the yogurt in your carb count? Love total yog so that's excellentSmile
Yes sausage brekkie tomorrow- got some beef lower carb ones from butcher today-
Have made spinach salad with bacon walnuts and blue cheese for lunch.
Dinner will be garlicky roast chicken.
Day 2 sorted lol

awaywego1 · 19/08/2012 23:12

Hiya-lurker login all the inspiration Grin thanks !
So I Started low carb last weekend and it all went ok (tho initially dammed hard) until I got a stomach bug-recovered now but meant that ive had 3 days of high carbs whilst I've been recovering-only really fancied toast n plain pasta :/
Planning to get back on it tommorow but just wondering will it be as hard as last week? I had just got into ketosis I think.

vnmum · 19/08/2012 23:28

Mark Sisson from Marks daily apple says that when eating primally/paleo that 50 - 150g carbs a day is the sweet spot for weight loss.

I did go over to this woe fully a while back but found the tempation of being allowed more fruit and nuts (and probably DH putting extra stuff in the cooking coz he thought it was ok) saw me get a bit of carb creep.
I am thinking of re reading the book and having a go again while I maintain for a while before kicking off another losing stint when DH goes away. I have to say though that I am struggling to get out of the weight loss mindset. I still seem disappointed if I get a sts on the scales, probably due to the fact I know I have more to lose and just want it gone.

I am thinking that a pweriod of maintenace might not be a bad idea though as it will let my body relax a bit. I have realised though that I haven't been eating nearly enough veg. I seem to have got into the rut of trying to eat as low carb as possible so only eat veg at onemeal a day and then it is not really alot. I know thats not healthy so thats why I am thinking of following the primal blueprint to get used to more veg. I will probably gain glycogen though if I up my carbs a bit but that may well help with my workouts.

DH is away this week so I am in full control of the kitchen and I will try and count my carbs per day just to see what I am actually eating.

Sorry that was a bit of a waffley post about nothing relevant really Blush

arightoldbag · 20/08/2012 09:20

so, on day 6 of low carb, adn this morning fairly terrible

I felt so sick

I ate fried egg, mushrooms, bacon and a few tomatoes

and immediately felt really nauseous. I'm getting a bit sick of this. I'm either feeling headachey and tired, or nauseous and grotty or really really irritable.

Help!

emmak86 · 20/08/2012 09:31

Morning Grin

I am
Not going to weigh in until the end of the week this week as i really dont want to weigh myself after the weight watchers yogurt the other day and not as much walking!
Im going to brighton for a few days on my birthday wednesday.. Much walking will be involved! So im going to weigh myself when i get back friday!!! Blush

vnmum · 20/08/2012 10:56

Morning all.
1/4lb off for me this week. Maybe maintennace isn't so hard after all.

After lasts nights post I have decided I am going to eat as I normally would following the paleo guidelines and record what I eat to get an idea of fat and carb % etc.
I have also been playing around abit with fasting last week but I am not going to fast this week as I was reading on Marks Daily Apple that it doesn't always have the same results for women and can actually be detrimental due to our different hormone response to it.

arightoldbag How carb heavy was your previous diet? You could be suffering a bad case of carb flu if your previous diet was very carby. also if you generally ate very low fat before, it could be taking a while for your stomach to get used to all the fat. I know when i was eating low fat and then had something fatty it would make me feel sick.
Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of water, you tend to need more when you first start but also add salt to food to keep electrolyte levels up or drink a carb/cal free electrolyte drink occasionaly

vnmum · 20/08/2012 10:58

emma although ww yogs can be quite carby, I wouldn't think 1 would have a disastrous impact on your weight loss to stop you weighing this week. if you are still worried, weigh in so you know how it affected you but don't post it on here. It is a good idea to get an idea of how different foods affect you anyway for the future

Jins · 20/08/2012 11:56

Emma, 2lbs a week weight loss is fantastic! If you lost 2lbs a week for a year it would be nearly 7.5 stone!

We all want to lose weight instantly and it seems to take ages but really even six months is nothing in the context of your lifetime. SO take your time and stick with it. Be prepared for weeks where you won't lose at at all and perhaps gain but overall there should be a downward trend.

emmak86 · 20/08/2012 11:57

Thanks vnmum

Ive been doing cleaning the house and ironing and changing beds the last 3 hours so hopefully that might burn the nasties off lol!

Scales say : 87.6 Angry so thats .5 of a kilo up!

Much walking to do and i really need to make up for it this week!!
