Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

Thanks jins Smile

You ladies definitely do make me feel chirpier when i need it x

Jins · 20/08/2012 11:59

Cremola I'm also very interested that a nutritionist has broken ranks and gone for a reduced carb diet. My gastroenterologist has 'approved' my low carb diet (although I didn't call it that - just described what I ate :) ) and interestingly has told me to cut right back on fibre. She's happy with fibre found in veg but I'm to take no supplementary fibre at all. I've been loads better since I quartered my fibre intake - goes against everything we're ever told

Jins · 20/08/2012 12:03

Emma if you imagine yourself in a year's time a couple or more dress sizes smaller you aren't going to care that you gained a pound here and there. It's the long game we're playing. We are going to be slim for the rest of our lives!!!!

Creamtea1 · 20/08/2012 12:18

Hi all, have been absent for a while due to holiday and illness. Anyway, weighed in this morning at 9 st 3 lb, bmi 20.9 - very pleased, although suspect this will go up as I recover from the awful bug.

arightoldbag · 20/08/2012 12:26

thanks vnmum

My diet before was extremely sugar heavy. I had a bad case of sugar addiction! It's amazing how much I crave it - even fruit, and I desperately want a glass of milk...not sure why...

Anyway, also was on WW before I started this diet, so it must be the fat that is making me feel awful.

Not going to give up though!

So had chicken and salad for lunch, and got some vits/minerals as well to take. My mouth has cracked at the corners, which I've never had before, also got a terrible spotty bum (tmi?!) - its like my body is really protesting.

onwards and upwards.

mussels in garlic butter for tea...

emmak86 · 20/08/2012 12:41

U talk so much sense jins Grin x

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 20/08/2012 12:42

well missed breakfast again due to chaos in the kitchen but had coffee with cream which was delicious and we have scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for our lunch which I will cook Jr soon as toddler wakes from her nap.

weighed in at 11.9 this morning, pleased with that. if I can get to 11.0 by the end of October I can aim for 10.10 or even 10.4 by Christmas

WillieWaggledagger · 20/08/2012 12:44

Well it seems I managed to lose 2lb on holiday whic I'm chuffed about

I am getting some unpleasant tummy cramps after eating atm (have been for the last week or so) and I don't know why... Hopefully i've just eaten something that disagreed with me and it will pass - praying it's nothing to do with this woe! I do find that because this woe is counter to the usual advice, I'll ascribe symptoms to it that I would previously have assumed were just occasional being a bit under the weather or overworked etc.

Lorelilee · 20/08/2012 13:06

Hi guys, I STS this week :( but reckon it is the hangover from my hol and also the 3 chips and one pint of lager I had on Satuday (BIWI, you are a bad influence Wink).

I have a quick question. I HAVE to sweeten coffee, what's best carb wise - sugar or Splenda?

WillieWaggledagger · 20/08/2012 13:33

Splenda definitely. Or you could give up coffee Wink Grin

Jins · 20/08/2012 13:34

Carbwise you want a sweetener rather than sugar which rocks in at a staggering 5g per level teaspoon Shock

Splenda, saccharine, whatever you prefer

Lorelilee · 20/08/2012 13:41

Willie this is me taking up coffee after 8 weeks without! Have bought some double cream and am really looking forward to it!

BIWI · 20/08/2012 13:42

When I was first diagnosed with IBS I was told to increase the amount of fibre in my diet. That actually made things worse - and when I told the consultant that he said that in some cases fibre was a bad thing. For many sufferers, low fibre diets are often recommended.

(Of course, I now realise that it's the carbs that make my IBS rear its ugly head!)

Lorelilee · 20/08/2012 13:42

Oh, and thanks Jins.

BIWI · 20/08/2012 13:44

Arightoldbag - the fat is not the culprit. It is the withdrawal from carbs that is making you feel so bad. Drink plenty of water, keep up your sodium and potassium levels (salt on your food, for the sodium, and salmon and avocado for potassium - or get hold of the electrolyte stuff recommended ^). You will be fine in a day or so.

mummyduff · 20/08/2012 14:24

Afternoon all, well looking back at the last 3 weeks I have been quite bad, booze and fruit so not a shock that once again I have sts.

I really need to motivate myself, had bacon, eggs and mushrooms for breakfast.
Lunch was 2 slices of corned beef, some cucumber and cheese(was in a rush)

Dinner will be roast chicken, mashed sweed and veg with butter.

Emma you are doing great and BIWI your holiday sounds fantastic veryEnvy

WillieWaggledagger · 20/08/2012 14:25

Don't worry lorelee I was joking - I love coffee and haven't given it up at all, though do drink decaf more often than not. Tbh I still drink it with a dash of milk because I'm not keen on it with cream. I do limit myself to one cup a day rhough

WillieWaggledagger · 20/08/2012 14:28

I am ungraciously ignoring biwi's holiday (and others') because I am back at work today!

Ilovemyteddy · 20/08/2012 14:41

Hello losers!

Another 2lb off for me this week.

Emma - Jins is right about being in it for the long haul and not worrying about a pound here or there. My aim is to lose 77lb by the end of the year and, apart from the fortnight I was on holiday, when I put on loads, I have managed to lose at least a pound every week. Those pounds, plus a bit extra on some weeks, like last week, mean that I have lost 53lb since mid-January. I'm not being ultra-good (I have a full-fat latte most days because you wouldn't want to be around me if I didn't!) and I have a square of dark choc a couple of nights a week.

If you look at it as a long-term process, and the way you are going to eat for the rest of your life, then it's not a diet, as such: it's the way that you eat now.

Oldbag Grin at your name - I would echo what everyone has said about drinking loads of water to get over carb-flu and to stop the spots/cracked mouth. I know the IPD girls say that you should take supplements, but I haven't taken any, as I think that what I am eating now, with its fresh veg and salad, and mainly unprocessed food, is far better for me that the crap I was eating before.

DH has been calorie counting for the same time as I have been low-carbing. He has lost 23lb but has stalled for about six weeks. We were watching the Hairy Dieters, with their oh-so-boring, calorie-counting message. Sigh. I added up what I had eaten that day, and it was 2000 calories, but only 30g of carbs (which is what I have been trying to stick to.) So, in my eyes it proves that LC-ing works and calorie counting doesn't. I was 21lb heavier than DH when we changed our eating habits. Now I am 9lb lighter, but more significantly my BMI, cholesterol and body fat is lower than his. And this is in spite of eating butter, cream, cheese, full-fat milk etc etc

DH still can't see why I prefer this WOE...

mummyduff · 20/08/2012 15:13

teddy 53lbs is so amazing, bet you feel greatGrin

mummyduff · 20/08/2012 15:15

creamtea thats great re weight today, well doneSmile

Medal · 20/08/2012 15:15

Oldbag cracks around mouth ring some bells with me about a zinc deficiency, perhaps have a check yourself? Hope you're feeling better soon.

Netheregions · 20/08/2012 15:32

Hello Low Carbers - I'm not new to MN but have been 'away' for an age and a half - I recently moved to the Netherlands (name change obvious!) from the UK where I'd been no/low carb for nearly a year... I lost 2stone during that year and have kept it off but the bread focus in the Dutch diet is near impossible to avoid, especially if we want to eat lunch on the hoof for not too much money... so - bread has been creeping back into our diet... my partner went low carb at the beginning of the year and has lost 2 stone too - we're both about ideal weight now but I know it won't stay that way unless I find wheat alternatives for these blardy lunch breaks... new house, new job, new everything kind of eats into the time I've got to play in the kitchen - any advice???

teaandthorazine · 20/08/2012 15:38

Hi Netheregions Grin and welcome (back)! I'm definitely not the best person to give you lunch advice atm, as I appear to sitting in tescos carpark eating pepperami and babybels... (Why does eating pepperami always feel a bit wrong?)

SingingTunelessly · 20/08/2012 15:55

Netherregions, can you not buy/take in from home a salad box? Prawn cocktails, boiled eggs, ham, chicken, beef, etc. I think problem is we associate lunchtime with a sandwich. Well I always did anyway.

Ilovemyteddy, well done what a fantastic loss. Well done to all the other losers. Grin

Oldbag, how you're feeling sounds tough. Sad. I did suffer with carb flu for about 48hrs which was horrid but got through with water, painkillers and hiding in bed when I got the chance. Really hope you feel brighter tomorrow.

Crispy pork belly strips, cauli cheese and buttery cabbage for dinner.
