Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

I was here about a month ago, then fell off the wagon and got dragged under the wheels for some time. Blush

However, I have been shopping in my own wardrobe [tm] for clothes "optimistically purchased" and have pulled out a suit, a suede skirt, jeans, t-shirts, dresses, underwear etc., etc. Thankfully I don't do high fashion so none of it is unfashionable.

And this morning I stepped on the scales and have burst through a massive psychological barrier and a physical stall barrier. So I'm thrilled! Grin

I'm sitting in the queue for the ferry home - have managed to low carb pretty well on holiday though definitely not been drinking enough water (it's been a camping holiday so just too inconvenient needing the loo so frequently). Haven't weighed for two weeks but hopefully there won't be holiday damage!

Did have a rather horrid experience though - we went for a day's mountain biking which was great fun, but it was quite hot and although I drank plenty and wore sun cream I ended up feeling rotten and vomiting when we got back. I had eaten cheese and lettuce for lunch and it could be that something I had eaten had gone bad, but I really did feel horrific and it was the closest I have come to thinking I really needed carbs. I didn't give in and felt much better later on, so it must have been a combination of the endurance-type exercise, heat and possibly slightly dodgy food.

Btw my hair is shedding lots with his woe too but I do have rather a lot of it anyway. It is in v good condition though

vnmum · 17/08/2012 12:07

topsi pine nuts are ok but don't go overboard as they can be quite carby quite quickly. Pesto is also great. Even shop bought. Just read the labels to find the lowest carb one. I get mine from tesco and it is really low in carbs but high in fat so perfect really.

I make a cheese sauce by melting some butter in a pan, adding double cream and grated cheese then boil till thickens. It does tend to go runnier though once it stops boiling. Apparently Arrowroot powder is a good gluten free thickener but not sure of the carb count or quantities used. From what I gather though, you don't need a lot of it.

Breakfast today was left over emmental lasagne. I think that is a new favourite, really tasty, I've just got to work out how to stop the emmental slices from melting.

Lunch - not sure yet, probably eggs with boursin
Tea - Pork steak (2kg for £10 in lidl) with veg or salad.

I am dealing with night time cravings for crap at the moment. Probably due to the fact I had to eat carby stuff last weekend. I'm hoping that a few more days will see me back in the zone completely and cravings gone.

topsi · 17/08/2012 12:40

thanks vnmum, may try cauliflower cheese at some point, how dya do the emental lasagne?
Yeah evenings are the most difficult time. I used to treat myself to a pud, even if it was just a nice yogurt.
I have berries and greek yog now with a touch of honey, or dark choc.

emmak86 · 17/08/2012 12:57

Afternoon. Smile

87.1 this morning Smile

B- two slices of Turkey breast
L- leftover shepherds from yesterday ( sitting in the garden now)
D- will be something with salad!

vnmum · 17/08/2012 13:01

I made the emmental lasagne by making a bolognaise sauce with passata, and a cheese sauce as described in my pp but with added nutmeg then used emmental slices instead of pasta. I cooked as i would a pasta lasagne but think it was either too long or too hot as the emmental melted and it's not supposed too. Unless it was coz i used budget emmental. It still tasted nice though

DD at nursery today and my day off from work so I went into town and did a spot of shopping, my smaller size jeans are now baggy and so I was convinced by the shop assistant to try White stuff jeans. Mh my god they fit! A 12! And I usually go up a size due to them cutting clothes for ultra skinny people. I am so so impressed. The jeans do give me plenty of room to improve on my tummy and thighs but the fact that I can even be comfy in them is amazing.

I skipped breakfast (again) due to being in a rush, but didn't snack in town, just drank water, and had M&S king prawns with watercress for lunch. I am going out tonight for dinner which will be a test, have decided I won't drink because a) I don't know when to stop and b) it makes me hunger for carbs. Which means I will probably end up paying a share of everyone else drinks as that always seems to happen!

Bacon burger without the bun!

Use lettuce leaves instead? X

Jins · 17/08/2012 13:59

I'm fasting it seems. DH in charge of catering in the caravan and he hasn't got used to low carb in the last 9 years. The gluten free requirement has tipped him over the edge. I've had two stale gluten free crackers, some cheese and not much else for the last 24 hours and I'm beginning to hate him Grin

He's been told to get me to a proper supermarket this afternoon and he can forget sightseeing

HumphreyCobbler · 17/08/2012 14:02

I just couldn't manage to low carb on our holiday - my vegetarian friend lives on cous cous and vegetables with a little teeny bit of cheese. I just couldn't manage on what I was eating, as I didn't want to eat ALL the protein in the house for one meal Blush

yup, cheese is allowed but don't overdo it. Avoid cottage cheese but others should be fine.

emmak86 · 17/08/2012 14:48

I agree with meg cheese is fine but dont go crazy.. Its good for getting your fat quota x

mummyduff · 17/08/2012 15:18

Afternoon all,

Had a rubbish day yesterday re food, was at a funeral most of the day and ended up with a handful of prawns, 4 cocktail sausages and 2 glasses of wine.. Then straight to bed, why is it sad days seem to take it out of you?

Today - brunch - bacon, egg and mushroom
Dinner - who knows

Lubilee cheese is fine just not too muchSmile

teaandthorazine · 17/08/2012 15:44

Don't worry lubilee, we've all done stuff like that! Drink some water. Your carb count for the day is still be low - most people find that they can get into ketosis as long as they're eating less than 30g per day. And you don't absolutely have to be in ketosis to lose weight anyway tbh, it's just great because of the lack of hunger etc.

Steak and salad for dinner then? Grin

teaandthorazine · 17/08/2012 15:49

mummyduff sounds like you did ok yesterday food wise, given the circumstances. Hope you're feeling brighter today.

Breakfast - protein shake, spoonful of coconut oil
Lunch - lump of brie!
Dinner will be M&S red pepper calamari with salad and mayo.

NigellasGuest · 17/08/2012 16:26

Hi jacaqueen good to see you back!

I've had king prawns with Hellmans FF mayo for lunch.
Planning Black Farmer chipolatas for dinner Smile

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/08/2012 16:28

Hello again from France! Well done losers!

I have had some low carb days and some high ones - I have realised though that if I have carbs, I just keep feeling peckish about an hour later for more carbs and get tired and grumpy - the days I have been low carb I've felt so much better. I will still have the odd croissant and enjoy it no doubt, but am quite happy with being able to be sensible and still enjoy all the delicious meats and cheeses.

Hope you all have nice weekends.

Lubilee don't worry about the questions - that's what this thread is here for Grin

Re: maintenance/WOE, tbh everyone does it differently. I can only speak for myself in that I really tend not to eat white carbs at all anymore - no bread, no rice, no pasta, etc. But I do drink wine (mostly red) and I do eat chocolate (always 70% or more) on a pretty regular basis!

That, for me, is enough. I just don't miss carbs, so having a bit of rice etc just isn't an issue. Low-carb eating is delicious and flexible enough imo. However, for other people having a small bowl of wholewheat pasta or the odd slice of toast once in a while might work for them. Everyone finds their own level and what works for me might not work for you.

My reasoning is probably that I've bought in quite heavily to the whole science behind what eating high levels of carb does to your body. I just don't want to eat that stuff anymore! I don't think that grains are particularly healthy, for example. I am also worried that adding regular carbs will be the start of a slippery slope...

So for me, high-carb foods are something that just won't ever be a regular part of my life again. After all, when I can happily eat a massive Indian takeaway without ever touching the rice or naan, why worry?

(however, before I start sounding too smug, look back through the threads and see I've fallen off the wagon many times - and all of this goes out of the window if dp brings home tiramisu Hmm)

IMO The Idiot Proof Diet Book is really good at the whole 'reintroduction of carbs' issue. Worth a look.

teaandthorazine · 17/08/2012 17:41

God, sorry that was a really 'mememe' post Blush

This isn't a quick fix. I do honestly think that the more reading/research you can do about low-carb, the easier you'll find it to consider this a WOE rather than a 'diet'. The science behind low-carb is irrefutable and it really will change the way you look at food. And then your personal 'maintenance/long-term' plan will follow naturally from that, I think.

NigellasGuest · 17/08/2012 17:42

*Tea I'm sure you've told us before, but what protein shake do you use/recommend?

NigellasGuest · 17/08/2012 17:43
