Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

If, hypothetically, one might be thinking of partaking of a rhubarb and strawberry pie purchased by one's DH, would it be better to eat the whole thing tonight, thus ruining one day, or to eat a little bit tonight, tomorrow and the day after, depending on how long it lasts, thus ruining 3 days? Hypothetically, of course. Wink

SingingTunelessly · 30/07/2012 18:41

Eat the strawberries and Rhubarb dovesand leave the pastry!

So glad to see we are carrying on our lovely helpful thread although September Bootcamp might be a bit hit and miss for me due to holiday, weddings and friend's 50th all in the same month. Expensive or what!!

Anyway, i have been a bit glum as I am on a stall. Scales told me 10 on the the nose last week and I was so looking forward to seeing a 9 but alas not to be. 10.1 this morning. Oh well. Sad. I seem to be losing and gaining the same sodding pound.

But onward and downward hopefully. I'm sure I remember some of you have had the same thing happen?

emmak86 · 30/07/2012 19:24

Hi everyone :)

Ive just seen the thread!
Wohooos!

Weve been to legoland today.. Great day.. Lots of walking!
Hope ur all well x

Thegoddessblossom · 30/07/2012 20:08

Singingtunelessly - I remember seeing this on this thread a lot. I am sure I will be in the same boat tomorrow as the only reason I was in the 8s this morning is the gyppy tummy yesterday and not much food. If I remember correctly the stall will finally break and you'll be down 2!!!!

Tea: 2 salmon fillets on salad leaves with mushrooms and celery, and full fat mayo.
Snack: celery stick, half with cream cheese half with pâté.

Thegoddessblossom · 30/07/2012 20:10

Doves: harcombe would say eat it all in one go. That way the insulin rush would happen once rather than multiple times.

MrsOnYourMarksGetSetPoirot · 30/07/2012 20:19

Hello! Marking place from France - overall have been OK except breakfast this morning!!!

vnmum · 30/07/2012 20:47

mummyduff once DH goes back to work in 2 weeks I may not be able to go for the rest of the school hols, except maybe saturdays, so I will be digging out the shred I think

SharonGless · 30/07/2012 21:08

Evening losers
Dd sick all night so off work with clingy child.
B mushroom omelette
L tuna mayo salad
D fish pie made with celeriac

Only just got DC in bed and tidying up. 3 more days off work then camping for the weekend so am going to plan meals

FiddleDeFat · 31/07/2012 00:12

Just a few thoughts about the spreadsheet:

  1. Can everyone please update this weeks weight - there are quite a few blank spaces! Spreadsheet here.
  1. Do we want to continue with the spreadsheet?
  1. If so, shall I start a new one from next Monday? I worry that it looks a bit daunting and off-putting for newbies to join as it stands.
  1. Or maybe we should just extend it and start a new one for the next Bootcamp in October?
  1. Or we could have a new spreadsheet from Monday, and a new one for Bootcamp?
  1. Either way, I would like to incorporate everyones total weight loss into our records. For example, ilovemyteddy has had a fantastic loss dating from before the first Bootcamp but this isn't reflected in our spreadsheet. I think it deserves to be recorded - and it would probably be easier to do this on a new spreadsheet.

What do we think?

fufulina · 31/07/2012 07:25

Hello all,

Longtime lurker showing myself. I think these threads are fabulous, have read the Briffa book (escape the diet trap), and having done Atkins years ago, successfully, but, for me, unsustainably (was in my twenties and it didn't fit with the alcohol consumption!), get the theory and why low cal doesn't work. Although, having said that it does 'work' for me, but I always, ALWAYS, put it, and more back on.

So, ten days ago, I started low carbing and lost three and a half pounds the first week and nothing so far this week. Very low that I've stalled already.

I'm 80.2kg, 5'7", exclusively breast feeding my nearly six month old, and have already lost 8kg from when I decided to do something about post baby weight, about 2 months ago. But I lost it calorie counting and eating a shed load of sugar. Not ideal, and my mood was vey low.

So, my question is, I think I need to cut out the dairy (full fat yogurt once a day, and usually cheese as a salad bit once a day, plus double cream in coffee two e a day), but why is this? Is it the calories? I feel like it shouldn't be? I also have berries every day, I know not strictly bootcamp, but could they be derailing me?

Typical day
B eggs scrambled with butter, mushrooms with butter, nespresso and cream x 2
L salad with avocado, little gem, cucumber, olives, mayo or olive oil, cold chicken
S raspberries and total
D salmon and green beans and broccoli with butter plus a taste the different e 85% dark chocolate bar, which is 25g
A SHEDLOAD of water (about 3 litres), and maybe another decaf coffee

I am approx 4kg from my pre second baby weight, but would like to lose 10kg as a start point. Which would bring me comfortably within my healthy weight.

Any thoughts why I've stalled so early?

Thank you very much

JintoTheFinal · 31/07/2012 07:43

It's not a stall yet. Grin

Keep going. Week two isn't always great for some people. I lost 4lb on my first week and was brought back to earth the following week with no loss at all. It settles into 1-2lbs per week

Badvoc · 31/07/2012 07:47

Briffa says butternut squash in moderation....

fufulina · 31/07/2012 07:48

Thank you! I need to keep faith!

WillieWaggledagger · 31/07/2012 08:04

fufu welcome!

the raspberries and chocolate could be affecting you, and dairy seems to affect some people but not others so you could try cutting these out, especially as the raspberries and chocolate will still be giving you the sweet taste that you might be trying to break away from

but as jins says it's very early days so don't lose heart

Thegoddessblossom · 31/07/2012 08:08

Fufu - I stalled completely till I stopped the fruit and choc..... Welcome by the way! Grin

Back up to 9 2 today which I expected since my tummy is fine again, and it's where I wanted to be at the beginning of this week so all good. Aim for 9 1 next Monday.

fufulina · 31/07/2012 08:26

Well, will try no fruit or chocolate guttedface and will see how things get on.

Badvoc · 31/07/2012 08:39

Sooo...I am being naughty :)
I weighed myself this morning.
I have lost 0.9kg since sat morning....
Is that a lot?
(totally clueless)
I am eating nuts and choc to help with cravings/ being out/ socialising.
I am sure if I stopped them I would lose more, but I think I need them ATM to keep,me from pigging out on carbs iyswim?

JintoTheFinal · 31/07/2012 08:41

0.9 kg is a lot in a few days. Grin

Thegoddessblossom · 31/07/2012 08:52

it's 1.98 pounds. Nice loss in 4 days.

TeamGBIWI · 31/07/2012 08:53

0.9g is about 4 packs of lard. So I'd be pretty happy about that!

fufulina - welcome! I'm glad you have delurked! But as Jins says, you haven't stalled. What you are doing, though, is eating a lot of carbohydrate. The whole point of Bootcamp is to cut out things like chocolate and fruit altogether for two weeks. This is not only to help break the sugar addiction/taste for sweet things, but also to help your body adjust to burning fat rather than carbohydrate. If you don't get the level of carbs low enough then this isn't going to happen for you.

Have you tried to work out how many carbs you're eating/drinking per day? Although I don't advocate counting carbs generally, in your case it might be a good idea, just so that you can see how many you are eating. We aren't really aiming for a specific number per day - if you follow Bootcamp rules you should be low enough - but as a guide, we're aiming at around 20-40g per day - maximum 60g. (Atkins induction is 20g per day, Dr Charles Clark is 40-60g per day, just to put this into context).

I would also cut the dairy for a few days. I know that it's something that impedes weight loss for me.

Don't lose heart - you're only in week 2. And weight loss isn't linear, so it's not unusual to lose nothing for a couple of weeks, and then suddenly drop by a few pounds.

OP posts:
Badvoc · 31/07/2012 08:55

4 packs of lard!?
Oh, that's gross!
Am hoping for the same again before sat and then I willbe below 70kgs :)

Badvoc · 31/07/2012 08:57

I have cut out dairy since last week and also have not had pasta/ potato this week yet so that mt be why I have lost more?
I am eating just and choc as I said...more chic than I should tbh!...

TeamGBIWI · 31/07/2012 09:01

Oh, and fufu:

"get the theory and why low cal doesn't work. Although, having said that it does 'work' for me, but I always, ALWAYS, put it, and more back on."

This is exactly why low calorie doesn't work!!!! It works in the sense that you lose the weight, but it suppresses your metabolism, which means that when you go back to eating more calories, your body doesn't burn them off as efficiently, hence the weight gain. It's the longer term implications of calorie counting which is the issue.

mummyduff · 31/07/2012 09:04

Morning all and welcome newbies, vnmum had forgot about shred will dig my copy out tooSmile

Well done Badvoc thats fabGrin

I have sts today, which is fine.

Am going to spend the morning bulk cooking lc food, as the weather is so rubbish here today Sad

TeamGBIWI · 31/07/2012 09:06

Ah, but Badvoc - lard is actually brilliant! It is a much maligned fat, and has come to symbolise how we vilify fat now. It's a much better fat for cooking than many others.

If you're still eating nuts and chocolates then you are not keeping your carbs low enough, which means you aren't properly in ketosis, which means you will still be hungry, which means you will end up with the cravings!

Honestly, once you are ketogenically adapted - i.e. your body has switched from burning carbohydrate to burning fat, you will not be hungry between meals, and you won't need the nuts/chocolate. You will be amazed at how long you can go between meals without eating anything - and you'll find that sometimes you even forget to eat or don't realise it's mealtime until some time afterwards.
