Well some of you are, clearly!

And I notice more talk about maintenance, which is evidently a very good sign.

I think the best way for maintenance is to gradually increase your carbs until weight loss either stops or you find that you're putting weight back on.

Don't rush out and fall face first into a plate of pasta, though! Start with fruit and veg (be careful with which fruits and how much), and possibly some legumes - e.g. lentils, or beans - i.e. we're looking to add 'good' carbs into the diet, rather than rush straight into 'accessible' carbs which have an immediate impact on your blood sugars.

Today is Day 1 of Week 1 in my 'let's get that last half stone off' before I go on holiday. (Except that last night's meal, plus a bit of 'eye off the ball' time, means it's more than half a stone now ...)

Holding my hands up on the talk of maintenance Blush

The reason I mentioned it was that I'd noticed that quite a few people were getting close to where they wanted to be whilst still very much in the weightloss mindset.

Most people do as BIWI says, ie increase carbs after reaching goal and its definitely what I did. There was no way on this earth that I was going to slow anything down before hitting that magic number Grin In reality I should have taken a lot longer to get to goal as I'd have had a much clearer picture of how to maintain.

Maintenance is not easy. Be sensible about the carbs you add and I wouldn't recommend adding more than about 5g at a time/meal.

BIWItheBold · 25/06/2012 08:51

I do take it as a good sign, though, Jins!

Is it too late for me to join? I have been doing bootcamp as a lurker for the past two weeks and have lost 14lb so very happy, but suspect that it will get harder as the weight loss slows down.

Jins · 25/06/2012 08:52

It is a good sign. Goal is obviously in sight!

SingingTunelessly · 25/06/2012 08:53

Morning BIWI and everyone,

Well am still here and sticking to the plan (apart from a bit too much red wine last night - arrgghhh really shouldn't have watched the England match.) This woe of eating is now second nature to me, I find it really easy to stick too and so yummy.

Also, this morning the scales tell me another 2lbs off this week! Total so far 12lbs!!! Grin Grin. Another great thing is my appetite has diminshed. Breakfast is a couple of boiled eggs maybe with slice of ham with blob of mayo or an omelette cooked in butter. One cup of coffee mid-morning, steadily drinking water all day. Then quite often I don't even think about food until late afternoon. Unbelievable.

Hope everyone who has been feeling ill are recovered and those of you who are getting fed up, stick with it.

Moonshine, let us know how you get on with the doctors won't you.

And finally, a big sloppy thank you to the wonderful BIWI. Without you I would still be eating low fat rubbish, miserable and feeling crap and fat. I heart you. Thanks. Thanks. Smile

SingingTunelessly · 25/06/2012 09:00

I still want to lose another stone so I'm not worrying about maintenance yet. But have to say the fact that I feel so much healthier with more energy on this woe, the thought of introducing carbs to any great extent is a bit worrying. Confused

Anyhoo I'm too far from target to worry about that yet.

BIWItheBold · 25/06/2012 09:19
Grin

Fanon- you are very welcome! And what a great loss for you! Just beware that weight loss often stops for a while, around weeks 3/4 and/or 5 - keep on keeping on and it will start again, albeit at a slower (and more sustainable) rate after that.

OP posts:
BIWItheBold · 25/06/2012 09:20

.... oh, and you don't have to introduce any more carbs if you don't want to! If you're happy eating this way, then just carry on doing what you're doing.

OP posts:
NotMostPeople · 25/06/2012 09:21

I've lost 16lb so far, my first goal was to get into the healthy BMI zone and my second was to get into the 10stone range. I've done both of those and am now 10st 12. What I have to decide now is what is my next goal, I would like to loose some more especially around my middle so I think I'll set 10.5 stone as my next goal with 10stone as the final one. I'm 5'7" and I suspect I'd look too drawn if I were much lighter.

FiddleDeFat · 25/06/2012 09:33

Another one a loooong way from maintenance yet. But I am going clothes shopping this week, and I am actually looking forward to it, for once. This follows an incident involving a trampoline, enthusiastic bouncing, very loose trousers and much subsequent laughing from my DH. Blush

Shimbo · 25/06/2012 09:34

Happy Monday! Hope you all had good weekends. We were having lunch with family and I purposely allowed myself a treat yesterday, a small slice of homemade cheesecake (no biscuit base), everything else good and no sugar cravings afterwards, although did find it too sweet! Because of that I have not weighed in this morning and am going to have a very sensible week.

With maintenance, is it better to introduce the carbs at every meal or stick to one meal containing carbs and the rest without? For example, can I have a small bowl of unsweetened porridge for breakfast and carry on this WOE for lunch and dinner? I so miss porridge! Is there any truth to combining fat and carbs in the same meal being bad for your weight? Therefore is it better to have porridge with skimmed milk rather than full fat milk?

Sorry for all the questions. Thank you to all for your support, love this place Smile.

puffylovett · 25/06/2012 09:38

MornIng everyone, marking place :)

Biwi can I crack your whip back at ya Wink

Notmostpeople will you be my special friend??! I currently have no goals really other than that I need to lost weight and at almost the same height your goals sound v sensible to me Grin

puffylovett · 25/06/2012 09:41

ROFL fiddle!

Shanon I would've thought u ought to stick to full fat? Not least because you need those fat soluble vitamins, and the fat to slow the breakdown of the carbs in to glucose..But to keep you fuller so you then eat less at lunch? May be wrong though, am sure a lc expert will be along shortly

puffylovett · 25/06/2012 09:42

Sorry I mean shimbo Blush

FiddleDeFat · 25/06/2012 09:42

Welcome to Fanon. It's never too late to join, I think some of us will be here for a long time yet.

Fantastic weight loss for you over the last 2 weeks. Can I record it on the spreadsheet? Just post your details if you want to be added.

Fanon · 25/06/2012 09:42

Thanks BIWI. I am not going to add any carbs just yet as I am really enjoying my food at the moment. Started at 209lb and aiming for 140 so still a long way to go.
It is really motivating to see so many people on these threads doing so well.

Fanon · 25/06/2012 09:46

Thanks for the welcome FiddleDeFat and puffy :)

jan2011 · 25/06/2012 09:47

well done on everyones losses! way to go :) :)

puffy my nails are a bit better, but my skin is so much better - i think adding healthy fat does good stuff to your skin for sure. i hope it goes to my hair soon cos i would love nice hair.

well im quite gutted. no loss, and a few pound GAIN.

reasons:

-i started a new med 2 weeks ago that can affect weight (i will think about stopping it as don't think weight gain is worth it if it continues!)
-i had a couple of slip ups
-i have been having carbs here and there such as berries, milk in tea, carrots etc these add up
-my comfort snacks have been too high calorie and carbs like cheese and nuts. i need my comfort snacks at the minute so will switch to safer suggestions people have mentioned

so i have a lot to work on, but for sure i need to turn this around. its ok for me to stay the same as i am not fussed to lose a lot, but it is NOT ok for me to gain!!

NotMostPeople · 25/06/2012 10:00

Puffy - you can never have too many friends Grin. Breaking it down into smaller goals works for me, I'd be overwhelmed if I just said I want to loose 28lbs.

I did a very MN thing and ordered some things from Boden in the sort of sale and it felt so lovely to wear t-shirts in a 12. I'm still wearing my size 16 tops and they're all so baggy and almost frilly at the hem, so some proper fitting ones are lovely.

Shimbo · 25/06/2012 10:00

Meant to say from the recipe thread I have just tried the Moussaka and the Curried cauliflower soup, BOTH of which were absolutely yummy!

Jins · 25/06/2012 10:16

Shimbo when you hit maintenance it is best to introduce one new thing at a time.

The first thing I brought back was carrots Grin

Having a small bowl of porridge doesn't sound unreasonable BUT you need to think about what made you overweight to start with. I have an unshakeable belief (again with no evidence) that the things you miss the most are the things that led to weight gain in the first place. Oats are made out to be some sort of superfood but they are still pretty carby at 66g per 100g. I'd try it and see how you get on. You may not like it anymore Grin

I know Atkins always says to have plenty of fat if you're having carbs to counteract the effect and I take that as my mantra. Personally I'd never use anything other than whole milk for anything

Jins · 25/06/2012 10:17

I never allow myself more than 10g per meal nowadays by the way. It allows a bit of room for manouevre

GreenEyesAndHam · 25/06/2012 10:24

Morning all

Timely advice for me, as I'm a STS this week- being only 3lb away from my target, this has left me feeling a tad FRUSTRATED. But I'm going to be patient and squash the temptation to do a strict Bootcamp to rush to it Smile

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 25/06/2012 10:33

Never mind, GreenEyes - only 3lb from target is brilliant! Envy of those 3lb from target.

My skin is so much better too. My nails haven't broken in a while, come to think of it. My hair is falling out a bit but that could also be attributed to post-pg hair loss, and it's not coming out in clumps.

sybilfaulty · 25/06/2012 10:34

Thanks for the new thread, BIWI.

Just adding myself to the thread. I went for a swim this morning abd it was bloody hard. Managed a mile though. And I looked not too awful in my swimsuit. Thank god for reinforced lycra.

Have a good week everyone.
