If you've poked your head around the door of this thread then please read ourOld Thread, read all the posts, all the links and the links within links and then jump in with both feet to a new, better Way Of Eating (WOE)

Roll Up, Roll Up for the all new, amazing thread for those of us who are trying to eat good, healthy, natural foods while counting our calories and eating LOADS!

We had some brilliant successes on the last thread - inches AND pounds lost and lots of people feeling happier, calmer and more focussed on their goals.

Remember that this is NOT a DIET, it is a healthy way of eating. You will NOT lose 5lbs a week - you might even GAIN weight in the first weeks!

Hully -- just chop a leg off. Quicker and cheaper.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 19/06/2012 15:39

Umami, I used mashed bananas, ground almonds and blueberries instead of butter, sugar and syrup. Still sugar in them, but I didn't add it! Grin

Ha! My boobs are giant, too. If I lopped them off, and some of the backfat, job's a good'un :o

Umami · 19/06/2012 15:42

Mashed bananas eh? I always have an excess of over-ripe bananas, so I may give this a go. Thanks Mango!

HearMyRoar · 19/06/2012 15:55

I think dd might be a bit upset if i chopped off my boobs :o

I just bought some almond butter to replace normal butter in my nut/seed bars but mashed bannana is a genius idea. must try that.

TobyLerone · 19/06/2012 15:58

Stewed apple/apple sauce is used a lot in vegan baking to replace fat.

Umami · 19/06/2012 16:07

Thinking about it, my favourite granola bar recipe has no added fat or sugar, actually just a whole tin of condensed milk Grin

MrsMangoBiscuit · 19/06/2012 17:05

How bad are they Umami? I have a tin of condensed milk in the cupboard that glares at me whenever I open the door!

Umami · 19/06/2012 17:58

I think they're not too bad actually. They're just oats, seeds, nuts and dried fruit, with the warmed condensed milk stirred in, then into a tin and baked. They're practically a health food, though not if you're low sugar-ing. You could up the seeds and nuts for protein. The contents are pretty jigglable.

The finished bars seem to have a shelf-life of forever, though I would easily much through them all on my own within a week.

Umami · 19/06/2012 17:59

DISCLAIMER

I think of anything with oats in as 'practically a health food' Grin

Trills · 19/06/2012 19:57

:o at Quark sauce!

ceebeegeebies · 19/06/2012 20:12

Help, I have 600 calories that I need to eat today to get to my net BMR and have no idea what to eat. Don't have much in the house - am thinking a big bowl of vanilla ice-cream with chocolate sauce and crushed nuts on top (at least the nuts are healthy Wink) but not sure that is in keeping with this WOE Hmm

Please share on any ideas you have got about how to eat 600 calories with limited stocks.

OMG, I have actually done my goals today! 31% protein 31% fat 37% carbs. Quite why it only adds up to 99% is anyone's guess :o

Whoop! Go Toby :o

Umami · 19/06/2012 21:09

Inspired by earlier talk of cauliflower, I made this spicy cauliflower with sesame for dinner and it was delicious. Plus muttar paneer, and an approximation of HFW's aubergine and green bean curry. Both also delicious (though I confess I did not make the curry paste, but used a thai penang curry paste I'd got in the fridge). Even DH was happy with it all, though I did cook him a chicken breast too, lest he baulk at the thought of an entirely vegetarian meal Grin

TobyLerone · 19/06/2012 21:19

I haven't really done anything different. I did have a protein shake this morning but I also had one yesterday and only did 16% protein Confused

Whoever recommended cashew butter - thank you, yum, yum, yum! Absolutely delicious.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 19/06/2012 22:32

All those curry things sound lovely. I noticed in my ancient Indian cookbook the other day, a recipe for making your own paneer, which looked quite simple as long as you plan ahead. I suppose it must be easy enough to get hold of now, though - never looked tbh.
My macros are still all over the place. And I've forgotten what the goal are meant to be - was it 40/30/30 protein/carbs/fat? I'm sure that's what I put in. Might explain why I never reach my protein goal in spite of consuming what seems like vast quantities Smile.

wherearemysocks · 20/06/2012 01:11

Wow Shirley, I think I may have just had my light bulb moment. Thank you for explaining net calories (way back - I have only just started reading the first thread and have jumped ahead to say this). I have been using mfp on and off for a while with various ups and downs, but I never knew what net calories meant so basically ignored it.

Today I ate 2000 calories but my net calories were 800. (2 school runs, 2 brownie runs, 1 kettle bell workout).

Maybe a protein shake would be a good way to up my cals on a day where I have lots of activity? Where do you buy them please, and can you recommend any particular brand?
