If you've poked your head around the door of this thread then please read ourOld Thread, read all the posts, all the links and the links within links and then jump in with both feet to a new, better Way Of Eating (WOE)

Roll Up, Roll Up for the all new, amazing thread for those of us who are trying to eat good, healthy, natural foods while counting our calories and eating LOADS!

We had some brilliant successes on the last thread - inches AND pounds lost and lots of people feeling happier, calmer and more focussed on their goals.

Remember that this is NOT a DIET, it is a healthy way of eating. You will NOT lose 5lbs a week - you might even GAIN weight in the first weeks!

Alibaba smoked mackerel with creme fraiche & lemon is luscious! I had aldi's lemon & parsley smoked mackerel for lunch-really yummy! There was another thread yesterday about oily fish/mackerel there might be a few more ideas on there.

I am trying to cut down a little on carbs and to hit the 30% protein. Currently have 52% fat! But I have had almond milk in my smoothie, almond butter, mackerel... so all good fats. I have done loads of walking so need to eat back some

knitknack · 15/06/2012 17:59

Not helping me type on this iPad though is it? :(

quirkychick · 15/06/2012 18:01

knitknack what are your macros like on low/no carbing btw? Are your fats high?

knitknack · 15/06/2012 18:12

Yes, i think so - I can see a litre pie chart on MFP, so I'll list the last few days - I'm not worried about fats though, fats are good!

Monday: fat 46% protein 32% carbs 22%
Tues: fat 58% protein 27% carbs 15%
Weds fat 63% protein 26% carbs 11%
Thurs fat 63% protein 19% carbs 18%

I don't really know what that means - I'm still wandering around in shock that I haven't eaten any sugar! I guess I should start thinking about macros? Im coming within 3lbs of not wanting to lose any more weight also. Would hugely appreciate any advice! :)

quirkychick · 15/06/2012 18:29

Interesting, knitknack you have done so well!

My fats are quite similar but carbs higher as I started with a little wholegrain at each meal/snack plus some other carbs. I am starting to reduce so carbs much less today.

I think if you lose 5lbs you need to recalculate your bmr etc.

knitknack · 15/06/2012 18:37

Gosh yes that's a good point actually - I probably should recalculate, thank you for that! I'm still eating some berries each day and I just had half a melon (which tasted like nectar of the gods!) so I'm still having carbs, I'm still eating cheese and last night I had a sweet potato... I'm reading lots of 'paleo' type books/blogs now - I want to hang on to this feeling!!

Quirky can I ask why you've decided to cut down on carbs in this way? Was sugar a problem for you or is it to do with overall health? I did think when I started this that I'd go back to whets after two weeks bu now I really don't want to!

quirkychick · 15/06/2012 18:43

No sugar not a massive problem but I have read a few paleo/low carb books. I just can't go straight into really low carbing, I have tried it before. I also haven't been hitting my protein targets at all so upping protein seems a good tactic at the mo. Definitely feeling much more energetic and happier eating this way!

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 15/06/2012 18:58

Hi peeps! Just wondering of any of you have any advice on a low carb cheese sauce? Made cauliflower cheese tonight and attempt to make a sauce with just cheese and milk but it seperated and curdled. I was trying to avoid flour, but will just a little bit not do too much harm? Or has anyone else made a cheese sauce successfully without it? Smile

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 15/06/2012 18:58

I must say, I do find the macros strange < thick >.

This week I haven't had any sugar apart from the odd bit of fruit. I've been having my usual generous dose of protein plus what I consider a 'normal' amount of brown carbs (two slices of bread for a sandwich or half a cup of rice with my meal etc).

But my macros come out as very heavy weighted on the carbs side - even when I've supposedly eaten over target % for protein and under for carbs, the proportions still don't seem to reflect this.

I must be doing something wrong or mis-interpreting things. Don't sweat it, though - I just find it a bit baffling.

I agree, I've eaten a melon today (sooooo sweet) but now my carbs are the highest they've been since I started and are higher than my protein:

Fat 43% carbs 31% protein 26%

It was only a little melon! (heee worth it though!)

bucketbetty · 15/06/2012 20:14

Has anyone actually lost any weight doing this? I had a bad week last week but back on it again. I've not lost even a pound. I would be so happy just to see a pound, just a wee pound. I really feel I'm eating too much to lose any weight. I wish I could stop feeling I should be eating less and I guess suffering more.

knitknack · 15/06/2012 20:25

I've lost 7.5 now!

ShirleyKnot · 15/06/2012 20:26
Hmm

I think if you're after scale loss, and you're not only not sticking to the WOE but also not reading the threads then you're on a hiding to nowhere bucket.

OP posts:
bucketbetty · 15/06/2012 20:54

I've been reading the thread, not all but really interested. I'm just not feeling it. I really want to. I've tried a range of things. Low cal definitely works but not sustainable. I ll keep going but have reservations. :)

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 15/06/2012 20:55

betty what were you doing eating-wise before you started doing this? If you've been eating very low calories, then it will take a while for things to sort themselves out.

ShirleyKnot · 15/06/2012 21:03

The opening post of this thread warns readers that this is not a quick fix, you probably won't lose weight at the beginning - and if you've been "cheating" either by going over your calories consistently or coming in under them, then you haven't really been following this process.

Believe me, I know, I was terrible over the jubilee weekend, and then again last weekend. I'm bloated and I am SAFTFBS. That's MY fault though, I haven't been eating properly or exercising enough and that's why I'm not seeing the results I want. I could, of course, drop my calories by 500 per day and probably lose 3 lbs in 2 days. 3 lbs of water, none of fat and I'd be miserable and fucked off while I starved myself, and then even more miserable when that 3lb comes back - which it would.

What is your BMR, TDEE and TDEE - cut? how long have you been trying to eat at your cut? Where you eating at low calorie levels for a long time before you started this WOE?

Betty I struggled a bit at first - only that I loved getting back to a cleaner way of eating, and I knew I'd lost weight and felt healthier eating this way in the past, kept me going.

My weight went up a fair bit to start with, but I'm trying to keep in mind the fact that it can take your body several weeks to trust that it's going to be consistently fed, and start releasing the excess fat.

This morning I was 1 1/2 lbs less than this time last week - that may be another of my many blips, but it's enough to keep me on track and even if it takes 6 months to lose the rest - it's been four years now of trying and failing, so that'll be a major achievement.

I've just added 2 hours of food prep to my diary; i actually spent about 4 hrs but couldn't bring myself to include it. Family buffet tomorrow (hate buffet food), so I've been slaving over quiches, coronation chicken and trifle. Be interesting to see how my cals go. Life getting in the way again Smile.

Seventh who are you on MFP? I'm not sure how to add anyone, but I'd love to drool over the menus for a 2500-a-dayer!

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 16/06/2012 06:28

Ooh thank you seventh, that sounds delicious! Smile

quirkychick · 16/06/2012 08:04

I know seventh, I had a small piece of carrot cake on thurs and had to double check the calories as I thought mfp had put in a whole cake! Sadly not...

We will be having cream tea on Sunday at dp's request, so I will have to force myself. Goodness only knows how many calories in my very buttery scone recipe with jam and clotted cream Grin.

bibbetybobbityboo · 16/06/2012 15:01

Gah i'm over on fat again today, i seem to be able to stick to the calorie limit ok but am struggling to get the right balance. Always low on protein despite my best efforts and over on either fat or carbs. Will get there with it though. Good news is though i tried on some size 12 jeans today and while they werent exactly flattering i could do them up easy enough! I had a blip day a couple of days ago beause i had no food in for breakfast, struggled to get going in the morning so didn't get out in time to get food in for a mid morning snack and this snowballed so that by the end of the day i felt terrible and was glugging dandelion and burdock to get a bit of sugar to see me through the evening. Quite a contrast to the days when i have eaten better! Just shows what an effect it has.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 16/06/2012 16:50

bibbity the fat amount on MFP is set incredibly low. I looked up the NHS guidelines for amounts of fat and picked somewhere in the middle of their suggested band.

Besides, fat is good because it fills you up and stops you eating sugary crap.

I put the recipe of our dinner for tonight into MFP earlier - really surprised at how calorific it is - 840 for one portion!
